    They probably know logically that it's just their slime, but their interactions are so identical to their friend that they can't help themselves, except during moments when the taming bond asserts itself. It'd make for, well not exactly horror, but some really great mixed feelings.

    the "MC's slime familiar eats up a dead friend and transforms into that friend with all their memories" premise feels a bit underutilized, there's only one instance that i know of (monster no goshujin-sama) and the other eats-and-shapeshifts slime is the too-famous rimuru lol
