...I just had a disturbing thought while listening to "Wheatley's Song" by Miracle of Sound.

One thing I've said in the past is that I have job security from robots because my job is dealing with morons and an AI capable of that would have to be so advanced as to be a SkyNet risk and would likely lead to bigger problems.

But I'd consider an AI who's an idiot (to the same level humans can be) to necessitate even more complexity than one that could deal with one.

So does that mean Wheatley is actually the most complex and advanced AI of them all?



...I have a feeling GLaDOS would kill anyone that proposed the idea and then delete the memory just to keep the headache away.

Super Robot Wars 30 is now available for pre-order on Steam. For the first time ever a mainline SRW game outside of the OG saga is available for purchase worldwide and in English, without even a need to pay extra to import it from Southeast Asia. Ever since I was a kid I genuinely thought that licensing issues would prevent this from ever happening, but here we are.

My hype is immeasurable.

 

Totatlly newbie to MMO's so this might be a stupid question for those who play that final fantasy MMO. I recently heard that the new expansion coming out is going to be the last one, is that true? I been thinking about getting in to it but I don't want to spend all that time learning the game and find out the next one is coming out and have everyone move over to that.

 

Doesn't seem like it, according to this article, they'll be wrapping up the main story arc... and starting a new one.

So, since my Xbox One is dead, my library of available Xbox 360 games can be counted on one hand, and my Laptop is a bit of a potato, I gave Flashpoint a go.
Well, I found a game series from my childhood again: Feudalism, which is basically a flash version of Mount and Blade.

I'm surprised how well it holds up, even if the building sprites seem pretty obviously traced from the Cossacks series (if you played it as much as I have, you'll know).
The gameplay loop is about building an army, with your own character on the field as well, doing some simple quests and conquering cities, while improving your troops (though unlike Mount and Blade, you don't upgrade existing troops, you just sell the old ones and buy new ones in the cities you conquer).

There are 6 Factions (in Feudalism 2 at least):
The Far East Empire, which is basically Feudal Japan with Samurai and Ninja.
The Black Horde, which are Mongols.
The Great Trade Republic, which are Greco-Romans.
The Order of the Holy Cross, which are Take-a-wild-fucking-guess (Crusaders, Teutons specifically).
The Forest Lands, which are the Kievan Rus/Novgorod.
And finally the South Desert, which are some weird mix of Crusade-era Muslims (Assassins, Nomads and shit) and the Ottoman Empire (Janissaries).

Then came Feudalism 3, which has a much more cartoony artstyle, and takes things to crazy levels:
You got the Inquisition, which takes some heavy cues from 40k, with Chainswords, Bolt-Action Rifles, and a ton of holy magic.
The Arcane Empire, which are all mages whose basic melee troops carry what are basically lightsabers, their basic ranged unit uses magic staffs, and they ALL got spells.
The Snake Clan, which are Middle-Eastern Assassins and Gunslingers.
The Sun Kingdom, which are Samurai and Ninja (they are the most mundane out of the bunch).
And the Frost Legion, which are Viking Russians with Steampunk Power Armor and big guns (like, their final tier ranged troop carries a freaking minigun, and their basic troop a rather large shotgun), and rely on so much brute force it makes an Ork nod in appreciation.

However, Feudalism 3, while adding Hunts, removed the random bandit attacks of the previous titles, making it harder to grind, and you can't get quests in cities anymore either. You also immediately start at war with two of the other nations, basically forcing you into a course of action, where previously you could pick and choose where to attack first.

If you got Flashpoint, and an hour or two to kill, give it a look. The games are quite fun. Feudalism 2 is the most fleshed-out one, while Feudalism 3, while having bigger battles and crazy shit like flashy spells and guns, seems a bit shallower.

 

The music for that is pretty good. But I do agree that action games on the phone is really uncomfortable to play with; tried the genre on the phone with honkai impact and couldn't get into it.

 

Some people just work in mysterious ways. I can't play it because my key inputs are slower because certain action commands would normally be inputted by my index or middle finger s

 

Agreed, I have it installed on my iphone but all I can stand to do is simple errands that don't involve combat at all. PC all the way baby.

 

Being able to use all your fingers to play is the best. Keyboard and mouse for life

 

Speaking of Genshin Impact, did they ever fix the problem the PC version was having?

You can now play an old online game again.

 

Anyone planning to get the Steam Deck? It seems pretty cool, but I don't really travel, so there's no real point to using it instead of my PC. Not like the Switch, which has a bunch of exclusive games on it.

 

I see the appeal of it. There are some people that just don't have the time to be at home playing their steam library would like to be able to take it and go. Those that work long shifts and would rather spend their lunch break playing on their GabeBoy than watching a buffering video in a building without good cellular reception.

I'm not gonna get it. I've played with a mouse and keyboard all my life and it just doesn't feel right playing on a controller, especially on a handheld. Not to mention, I don't want to hurt my kneck hunching over just to look at the screen.

 

Given every other venture Steam has made with consoles and the like, it's probably going to be rinse/repeat abandoned trash. I don't trust them to actually continue it for any length of time.

 

I travel a lot, and I've always dreamed of having a portable gaming console/computer that can be upgraded like a desktop. This seems like a step in that direction. Unfortunately, this isn't quite there yet and I don't have the spare cash to support it, no matter how much I wish I could. Plus it won't arrive in my region until 2022 at the earliest, so I have no reason to be hyped. By the time I can get my hands on one it'll have either proved itself a success or a flop.

 

Does anyone know if the PS5 be backwards compatible?

 

Only with PS4 games and PS Now, but it is damn near the entire library. Only caviat is you will need an external drive for game storage.

 

It... will still work even if they abandon it after day 1.

You can literally install windows and standard linux on it if you wanted.

 

Kingdom come is still entertaining as a video stream once you edit in sound effects.

 

Blizzard really is crashing and burning huh?

 

The old Blizzard is long dead, the people that made it great are gone and there is just parasites masquerading around in Blizzard's corpse.

Also, seeing as how the current Blizzard is basically a frat boy fraternity, it would explain the drop in recent Blizzard game quality. Everyone is literally too drunk to make a polished game.

 

I don’t think that’s fair. There’s a lot of employees who aren’t going to drink anything handled by anyone within the same neighborhood as a Blizzard office. They’re just too busy getting chased around by the drunk frat boys.

 

In other news, if you happen to be in California, Colorado, Oregon, Hawaii, Vermont and Washington and you want a high powered gaming pc then it sucks to be you because they're banned for the lowly peasants. Consoles, industrial computers and the like all get through entirely exempt. In other words the things that use most energy are entirely unaffected.
