    Hi,

Is there any rules against talking about the politics that go behind film making or reasoning as to why certain cinema from certain shows are bad, good or just weird?

If it happened more than 20 years ago, its good. So you can talk about how the Great Depression contributed to the James Bond movies, or something like that.

If it deals with current politics, then it is a gray area.

What specific movie/show do you want to talk about, and what politics will you talk about?

Chinese cinema and how it's evolved or changed for the worst from the 80s to what it is today.

There's no single rule here. Movie industry politicking isn't what we mean by "politics" under Rule 8, but they can intersect. So it would depend on the specifics of what you're writing.

The purpose of Rule 8 is to avoid causing big fights. If you think something is the kind of topic the population of this site would get in fights over, then be more careful with it, or avoid it altogether. More obscure or less controversial topics are less likely to run afoul of the rule.

Generally speaking, Rule 8 applies primarily to modern issues. Anything from more than 20 years ago is unlikely to be a problem. (Note that this rule is not absolute, but you'd have to be trying to find something pretty darn controversial to get hit on Rule 8 for older events.)

Well I watched a few video by accented cinema which talks quite a bit about the Chinese Movie Industry. Some videos talk about movies and trends from the 1970s. Some talk about cinema in the past five years (e.g. Mulan Movie). All talk about cinema itself and how politics effects the process and creation of the movie itself.

For example restrictions and guidelines by government bodies means that Wolf Warrior has to follow a certain level of patriotism. Wolf Warrior, the highest grossing Chinese Action movie of its year, caters on many different feelings and thoughts about Chinese people in the Chinese Mainland. They range from:

    1. Executing Drug Dealers
    2. China's Pivot to Africa
    3. It's fears regarding being wiped out by the "western world"
    4. Embarassment about its own history
    And so much more.

In essence analyzing Wolf Warrior itself can be quite a thesis itself as you can see why it was so successful in China but not so much elsewhere. The Sequel improved on a majority of its aspects and found a way to balance the tastes of the Chinese people, the Chinese Government Guidelines and also the Overseas market allowing it to be seven times more profitable than it's predesscor series.

Film and fiction is a medium government by censorship laws, political beliefs and personal bias. Talking about it might be interesting.

Anything to do with the geographical and cultural region known as "China" will probably violate rule 8 at some point during the discussion. Just my observation from the various pics threads.

Then is it okay to ask a thread about why Hollywood is so scummy?
