It stemmed from the notion that if the relationship you're look to have is complicated by social expectations or norms, but you find yourself already ostracized from society due to your interests or background, especially if you don't consider it anything wrong with it, why are you trying to please them? Haven't they already shown that your own beliefs are maligned from a flawed perspective, that the reason they may look down on your relationship may have equally unshaky foundation? It always seemed to me that if it made you and whoever in you are in a relationship with happy, damn social expectations. Aren't they more important in your life then some vague sense of social norms? Especially if you're generally already looked down on something that, in your opinion is right?

I'd say that took the meat of the notion, that pleasing your partners and make them happy if doesn't hurt anyone else has precedence over social norms but they've personalized it rather nicely to the situation. Well phrased IMO.

 

I have my own theory why Issei wants a harem: he craves affection. He grew up being a loser and an outcast who felt he disappointed his parents just by living and that filled him with insecurity that fed into his unhealthy obsession with women's body parts. His dream harem would fulfill all the companionship needs he could ever desire. It it just explains so many things about him.

 

Issei had friends even before anything magic entered his life. And he's not really insecure.

You know that it's possible that he just wants a harem because he has an overpowered libido and an obsession with tits that borders on the fanatical. Not everything needs to be an overanalyzed angst fest.

 

Plus being earnestly convinced that the best way to make women happy is to have a relationship with all of them at once. Sure, there's a great deal of selfishness in his desire, but he's also extremely compassionate and respectful towards his loves.

 

But what about the stuff from the later parts of the light novels?

 

I wonder if the girls in Issei Harem (besides Mittelt, and Rias) have told their parents that they are dating him, or about the relationship?

 

The Author started running out of ideas, says 'fuck it', then reverted back to overanalyzed angst fest.

 

I wonder what Azazel would do if he found one of this animals Al-mi'raj.

Could be Issei 'is' a super-pervert with an Oppai fetish you wouldn't believe, 'and' has other reasons for wanting a harem.

 

I would rather have a complex character than a shallow one. We have more than enough of those, they're called "every other harem protagonist that ever existed."

 

As most of you probably already know the only reason the author hasn't let Issei get it on is because everyone else won't let him.

 

Also, because Otakus are neurotic madmen who'd gleefully boycott the entire franchise if their waifu was to ever stop being "pure".

 

I thought it made the character more likable and relatable.

 

...do we really have to analyze DxD that much?

To me, pretty much a guilty pleasure series.

 

I like DxD because of Issei's custom spells.

 

The point of Fanfiction is to improve on the canon, IMHO.

 

Analyzing it reveals weaknesses, which allows us to fix those weaknesses and make fanfics that are better than just being guilty pleasures.

 

I wonder what kind of Yokai should Issei recruit after this arc?

I wonder if there is a chance for another adventures that happened at the begining of the quest?

 

Well, one of the goal is to found the old dragon of the east and learn how to become half dragon ala Ryu from BoF, right ?

And Yokai..... Kitsune maybe? There are some in Kyoto.....

 

I wonder how many Dragon forms are?

There still The Radioactive Dragon out in the ruins of Atlantis.
