    Just yesterday, in science's endless poking at the universe they found... Well, you can basically sum it up by understanding that someone marched out of CERN wearing their labcoat over a wizard's robe and announced that it turns out magic is real.

    Not only that, but it seems they also just posted the basics they found on how to use the stuff up on the internet, open source, and here's the address.

    This caused some chaos of course, but you? You have a bigger dream. You dream.. of space. And you've taken a look at this 'how to do magic' stuff, and it makes sense to you. In fact, you could well say that you're a wizard. Or at least as close as anyone else is to being that right now. And being a wizard, you intend on using the magic to achieve your dream. And that's why you just registered yourself as a Space Agency...

    In this game, you are the pioneer, the visionary, the very first expert in a new field. Magic is new, young, fresh and vibrant. This is the dawn of a new age, and the trailblazers are you.

    Do not accept your due. Reach for the cosmos. Walk among the stars. Sing the light fantastic, and witness with your own eyes the dread beauty of the black hole. Your ancestors inherited the earth. Now the rest of existence is out there for the taking.

    This world is not enough.


    How Do You Play
    Each player has access to their very own budget. They can spend this budget on projects, for example 'Research Magic Deathrays'. I, the DM, will give an estimate of how much you think a project will cost. You can then dedicate your budget, in whatever amounts you feel like, to whatever projects you want to spend them on, in the current turn. I will then roll a 1d100 in turn processing to see how successful the project was. Projects can research new spells, design ships and bases using your spells, actually build said ships or bases, and do practically everything else in the game as well. Each turn will be one month in length at this point in the game. This may be altered later.

    (For example, someone has a budget of 3000, and wants to research magic death rays. The cost is 5000-6000. The player wants to do other stuff too, so spends 1500 on the project for three turns. But then someone makes piracy threats, so they need a weapon now, and dump 3000 in to make sure it finishes. Remember, the dice do have an effect, this isn't just linear adding. As well, spending huge amounts of money is less effective then spending smaller. More chances for people to make off with some in their own pockets and all that. Of course, the less money you spend the more dicerolls, and the more chances for a crit. Good or bad.)

    At the start of the game, each player has a budget of 1000 Magic Space Bucks, the official currency of the game. This is from various off screen fundraising that a player does that we don't pay much attention to because it is boring. If you want more Magic Space Bucks, and you will because that isn't a huge amount, you are encouraged to earn more. Missions will often provide one time sums, but you can also earn more in any other way people normally earn money. Space Tourism, making your own Hubble and renting it out, Asteroid Mining, selling ships to other people... You know, that kind of thing.

    Some things, like having a giant fleet of War Suns, will start eating up your money in upkeep. So, you know, figure out ways to reduce that, or just make more money.

    As well, while you don't have any to worry about at the start of the game, there are also strategic resources that can be developed later on. A Strategic Resource is anything that you have a limited amount of, that you need, that isn't money.

    For example, if you need Handwavium to make a War Sun, and you can't produce it casually, you'll have to make a Handwavium Factory, that will produce some amount of Handwavium every turn. Or if it's something really hard to make/highly powerful, you might have to wait more then one turn per production cycle. Of course, you can also sell these off to other players or the general population if you need money or other fun things. Like their own strategic resources.

    However, not all strategic resources are materials. Some are people. Like, for example, if a ship needs someone with Archmage level training to function, you better get to training archmagi... And so on.

    Please remember that I retain the right to change my mind, edit, mutilate, or otherwise alter anything I have previously said about projects or anything else if needed for balance.

    Edit : Also, until some countermeasure is developed, only small or tiny sized ships be built and launched on a planet's surface due to minor things like gravity and atmosphere making it impossible to launch anything bigger.

    The recent announcement of the discovery of magic, and the open source posting of how to do magic, has thrown the world into political chaos. While most of it will likely be noise and thunder, for now the yelling is getting quite loud, and there is almost no agreement on how to handle this stunning revelation. Already, however, several new start up companies have formed, seeking to use magic to break into established markets, provide new, never before seen, services, or even venture where no man or women has gone before.

    While few take them seriously, the recent establishment of several private space agencies, with the public objective of using magic to escape the Earth's bonds, has some people thinking hard.

    Meanwhile, the United Nations is attempting to set up a Board for the Utilization of Magical Arts, which will have the job of encouraging safe. humane, and profitable uses of magic. Instead of researching mass necromancy and trying to take over the world and all that.

    It is expected that, once BUMA is established, they will have some interesting carrots for the new space agencies, and rumors of a new international moonbase are filtering through the internet...

    Other companies that could be interested in the utilization of space seem to be taking a wait and see approach for now, before attempting to hire the new space agencies for anything. But if the new agencies last, and prove their ability to support space travel, this is likely to change fast.
