I was thinking the same thing a while back and asked a few fans. According to them, the original FFVII was amazing, for it's time. Nowadays, the original have graphics that are too dated, while the rework didn't captured the magic of the original. Magic that can't be captured, because the time, the place, the wider gaming landscape, the person playing, it's all different.
