    Yeah, that was an issue I ran into when I signed up for SpaceBattles. When I registered there, they let me type in my full user name, so I didn't know they were going to cut it off midway. At least QQ let me use the full name.

    Pretty much, yeah, though Goomba isn't the best comparison. The Cataquack would run up to you and throw you up into the air, which you could use to get to high places sometimes, though when you landed you'd either get temporarily stuck in the sand or hurt (depending on the color-coding of the duck). And you could only knock it out, not kill it.

    There used to be a very lively, though now sadly defunct (you can still find some of the pages, but they've lost a lot of the special content) website called Mario Monsters, dedicated to detailing all the various enemies from the games. I volunteered to provide a few monster entries, and since I'd just recently played Super Mario Sunshine and found the Cataquack cute and funny, I named myself Cataquack Warrior.
