Unfortunately, I actually hate Kirche as a character. Louise actually has some level of sympathetic characterization going on, Kirche is just... a raging bitch, really.
I mean, she is, but it never really stuck with me, because I make a point not to look at canon characterizations too closely in general, or I'd end up hating the entire cast as characters.
So, from a more comfortable distance of lore overviews and quality fics, I'm in position to seethe about canon making a potentially fun character so one-dimensional and unlikeable, as opposed to actually disliking her.
….she's promiscuous and enjoys teasing her family's rival (and Louise readily hits back so it's hard to count that point against Kirche when it's mutual) how is that a "raging bitch"?
Like I'd agree on Anime!Siesta (keeps pushing herself on Saito despite his stated disinterest after marriage to Louise and telling Louise to her face that the compromising situation she found them in is "exactly what it looks like" despite knowing what she'll do to the guy Siesta supposedly likes) but Kirche seems pretty relatively low on the "anime bitch-o-meter".
A lot of it is in the way she treats people, even and especially individuals she's invited into her bed. The way she treats Louise, especially, I would call 'bullying' rather than 'teasing' given that Kirche is almost always the instigator and part of a crowd of people throwing abuse on a girl who's only crime is having a disability.
The compounding issue is that Kirche appears to believe that her interactions with Louise are 'banter' rather than the actual insults that Louise takes them as, which comes across as either oblivious or self-deceptive, neither of which are character traits I particularly enjoy... and, yes, I also hate Saito for those reasons, among others.
Yeah, she does that a lot. But then, that's a flaw of the wirting that applies to the entire title, tbh - Saito, Louise and others fairly often do something repulsive, creepy and/or morally questionable that's treated like your usual anime gag, but is faintly horrifying if you think about it.
Yeah but the thing is Louise also gives her similar shit that's actually pretty hurtful even if it's just played off as "prudish tsundere antagonism gags" like "You're not a REAL noble you're just an upjumped peasant from a pagan barbarian nation that links titles to money instead of magic/holy blood".
and "You're a slut for enjoying sex so much instead of a PROPER TRITAINIAN WOMAN" and so on (paraphrased but it's the general sentiment) simply due to being a family enemy hence why it's hard for me to hold that stuff against Kirche when Louise would likely act the same were their positions reversed.
