Questionable Questing

Is COSMOS dead forever? I really really love that quest, and I hope the conflict over paradigm wasn't so toxic that it killed it.

No, the problem was that the production accounting got so complicated I couldn't keep up with it. It was a cool concept, but I'll need a better wat to handle that issue before I try again.

Happy to hear. I loved Cultivation Quest, even if the waifu wars and overreach that result put us in a bad spot.

I loved both Cultivation Quest and ANoYO. I'm curious if by successor you mean you'll timeskip to after Kurik's waifu house of cards imploded, or if you'll start with a brand new character? Either way I'm very interested.

I've looked at a lot of ideas, from just doing a timeskip to a complete reboot, but they all had a lot of problems one way or another. Right now I'm working on an idea for a new setting and initial situation that would copy most of the good stuff from Cultivation Quest, without having the same problems.

By a new setting do you mean a different fief, or do you mean you had problems with the Vancil setting in general?

We were hoping you'd just resolve the waifu problem one way or another and proceed, with a variable number of characters cast out and new problems. Really too bad, I liked a lot of the characters.

The cultivation system ended up with too much math, too much vagueness about what people can do (especially in combat), and too few options for making different cultivation techniques unique and interesting without just breaking the whole progression. I've worked out a different system that I'm interested in trying out, that I think will solve those problems.

Aside from that, the quest itself introduced too many characters (especially waifus) and plot threads too quickly, left you with no guidance from NPCs who weren't working for you, and was kind of short on opportunities to do anything besides research and collect waifus. I'd have to do a complete reboot of Cultivation Quest to fix those problems, which would mean starting over from the beginning.

I'll admit that I thought the research and collecting waifus parts were great. We just went overboard on the later. The fief management could have been a bit more important though.

I'm now worried as I made a quest where the focus is even more on research.

It's too bad you intend to start a new quest entirely though. I'd prefer more of ANoYO if Cultivation quest is truly unsalvagable. That being said I'll end up reading anything you write most likely.

I liked writing those parts too, I just made the mistake of introducing far too many waifus too quickly. I'm also looking at some ways to vastly reduce the amount of bookkeeping required to run a CQ-style fantasy game, which would make the quest less likely to collapse under an inordinate workload.

I'm actually trying to decide between an entirely new game, or restarting Cultivation Quest with batter pacing and some new game mechanics. The latter would let me re-use a lot of background and characters, but I suspect having to start over would upset a lot of the old player base.

I'm not sure what the reception would be like personally. I really looked forward to a lot of things that were coming up in the quest when it died in terms of R&D and the ongoing fief development like expanding the farms. Getting a chance to see more of the characters would be worth it though. I'm sure not all of them would be available, but at least some would.

In terms of bookkeeping, I felt like you putting so many numbers on everything was part of how it was deconstructing Xianxia tropes. Rather than more vague stages and realms that are practically random in terms of how the protagonist advances, everything was much more scientific and mathematical.
