So I read this one, 穿越大唐：当个闲王这么难 by 悟途, and it's like about being the tenth prince of the Tang Dynasty, and it's really good because of how relaxing it is, there's still the usual tech stuff, but mostly it's about political intrigue, profiteering, and world domination through proxies, instead of, you know, violence and wars and booze and shit

    I think the problem with the latter is that those types of stories have one attractive male protagonist but no male and antagonists. You know it's like the NTR type harem stories seem more real because there's actually other guys, and if the girls are really that great then there has to be plenty of jealous suitors hovering around them.

    In Negima the setting is an all girls school, it's difficult to justify male rivals there.
    By the time the action moves into the magical world the protagonists have more important things to think about.
