I think, and this I'm not sure about, but I think it's incredibly rare for people to have no circuits naturally.

Most just tend to have shifty circuits, Shinji level shifty circuits.

If the family were to all concentrate on gathering everyone's natural circuits after a point it would at least have an impressive number with how many members they have.

Put in any alchemical and medicinal spells they have into it as a cover story for their chosen student.

Told to store all spells learnt and notes taken on them into the crest for later study.

I mean, of course everyone has circuits, since they're the natural tool for replenishing your life force, but most people's circuits would ALL totally burn out if you tried to use them for magecraft.
That being said, pretty sure you've gotta expand a crest in order to add spells to it.

Hmm, I'm not actually knowledgeable about that at all.

I just thought the knowledge was shared across all circuits, and quantity only increased prana amount.

That opinion is formed off of Kiritsugu's crest, that it still has its abilities despite being crippled with most of it gone.

I believe the rule is 'you engrave one spell on each circuit, so the crest will know that spell'.
In Kiri's case, he had enough of the family magecraft intact to repurpose it from large bounded fields to an innate bounded fields.
Side thought: How large /is/ this family, do you suppose? Also, what'd be a fun name for a Russian-Japanese magus family?

Second question: again, how big /are/ they? I suppose they could be fairly large, since they've been around in such a state since the 16/1700s and don't deal with traditional magic crests, and degradation of mystery is an increasingly mild suggestion for them. You suppose they're an extended family encompassing half or more of a town of a few thousand people?

Good number but spread them out a bit, a series of cities and towns built along a minor leyline(s) they aided the development of since their founding(or founded).

They're pretty much in charge of those cities.

Couldn't think of anything else, and the Khostov holds a special place in many players hearts.

Not formally in charge of those towns and cities, because they're not mystically significant enough to have second owners (and the Kosuto clan isn't formally affiliated with the Association), but they're the strongest thaumaturgical organization in those towns.

Aaand now I'm thinking of how to make a grail for some reason.

Funnily enough if these guys /did/ have a grail it wouldn't even be for reaching the Root.

Just helping the family when it's in need.

These are the highest level of heretical magi.

Unfortunately for them, the holy grail relies on the Einzbern sorcery trait of 'Wishcraft' - the ability to achieve any /possible/ result without knowing how, by just throwing lots of prana at it. The greater grail NEEDS to have a pure Einzbern homunculus as it's core.

I meant as a storage unit, while wishcraft itself is beyond their grasp storage of large quanties of mana for ritual usage isn't.

It would actually be really simple to do it.

Is it canon, did they run it by him first?
Or did they just create a spell out the ass?

I'd be pissed if they did, because I'd look like dumb as hell, and the spell would make the creation of a grail much easier and efficient.

The story of Prisma Illya is non-canon (insomuch as you can restrict canon in a multiversal setting), but I'm pretty sure it's got some oversight to go with it's license.

Anyway, leyline mana gathering for scrubs.

Set up at least four bounded fields in the shape of circles that regulate portions of a leylines energy, with a designated 'entrance' and 'exit' to the circle.

Flash Air the entrance and exits so you can create a little subriver that you siphon mana off of before returning the excess to the leyline with the other two circles.

Those are just bounded fields btw, although I wonder if a bounded field in the shape of a formalcraft circle would have any effect on anything.
