I think the filler is only a problem if you are reading the story as it's being written.
In already-existing story, the filler is slice-of-life content, worldbuilding, smaller character interactions that build up to make the big moments feel more impactful.
If you are waiting days or weeks between updates, the filler parts feel like a total nothingburger that could have been advancing the plot.

I used to do that. Still do a little if I write an angst scene, but I try to be brief nowadays and get to the point.
