• The site has now migrated to Xenforo 2. If you see any issues with the forum operation, please post them in the feedback thread.
  • Due to issues with external spam filters, QQ is currently unable to send any mail to Microsoft E-mail addresses. This includes any account at live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com. Signing up to the forum with one of these addresses will result in your verification E-mail never arriving. For best results, please use a different E-mail provider for your QQ address.
  • For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.
  • Since it has happened MULTIPLE times now, I want to be very clear about this. You do not get to abandon an account and create a new one. You do not get to pass an account to someone else and create a new one. If you do so anyway, you will be banned for creating sockpuppets.
  • Due to the actions of particularly persistent spammers and trolls, we will be banning disposable email addresses from today onward.
  • The rules regarding NSFW links have been updated. See here for details.

I have instituted a change in the way users and new users are sorted out, in an effort to control the spammers.

1. The default Registered user group now requires moderator approval to post replies or new threads.
2. Once an account has 5 approved messages, users will be moved to the Valid Members secondary group, which will lift the requirement for moderator approval on posting and new threads.
3. Everyone that fits the criteria of having 5 messages has already been moved up, so most of our active users shouldn't see any changes.

Hopefully, this will fix the spammer issue.

You should probably make a second criteria that also moves them up after a few weeks so Lurkers don't get flagged.

I originally tried that, but the way it works is that it requires someone to have BOTH criteria.

Although, maybe a second promotion can do it instead of trying to use one with both criteria.

I'll try that out and see.

Uh, I think it broke something- I know I have been around for months, and I have way more than 5 posts. Just made a post in the Aegis thread and apparently it requires mod approval.

Edit: Also this post requires approval too.

Agreed, I report spam any time I see it. Sadly it occurs so often that my only wonder about this is "Why wasn't it done sooner?". It would have so save the mods some work, even with approving legitimate posts.

Usually, there's only like 2, 3 spams every... say, three days or so.

But yesterday, we got hit by like 6 spams or so, in a short amount of time.

I've noticed, I tend to be checking around the time they are posted for some reason, so I seem to catch a good number less than 10 minutes after they go up. That said QQ doesn't have that huge a growth rate where having to approve 5 non spam posts for new members seems like it would be more work than that is what I meant. Of course entirely possible I misjudged how fast the forums are growing too. Not like I know where to check statistics for that after all.

But I like spam... it's delicious.

Oh, wait, you mean the stupid ads posts! Ah, I see... Mmm, spam... I mean, good for you! Now all the spam shall be mine!

Say goodbye to the hidden spam commune!

I think it might be better to move the counter down to one or only need the first "New Thread" to be approved. The spammers seem to just post and leave I don't think they even noticed.
Tanuki agree with Squirrels!
I agree with this move.

Also, people I think should be able to be kinda jumped-past the wait system with a proper contact or someone to vouch for them. Mostly to make it less annoying. If someone is a standing user with a known reputation the five post minimum is kinda obtuse.
