[Freeform] A Pokemon Misplaced

K: Right, time to set some expectations. I'm writing this as a personal project without the rest of the system chipping in much. I'm going to update whenever I damn well feel like it, and the quest will keep going for as long as I find it enjoyable. That means keep the high-stress arguments to a minimum please. With that out of the way, let's get on with the show!

Who says you need a Trainer to be a Pokemon in the big city? You're one of those street-smart urban Pokemon who's figured out how to make a living in the big city, whether that's through simple scavenging, offering some sort of service for pay, or planning elaborate casino heists to get at their stockpile of TMs (innocent whistling). You're a smart one, and a pretty tough one too.

You've been with your trainer for a while, and have easily surpassed what wild Pokemon can expect to achieve thanks to things like Vitamins and Technical Machines and Move Tutoring. That said, you haven't forgotten how to take care of yourself in the wilderness.

The transition was quite sudden. You were enjoying a night out with the rest of your gang in Lilycove City, when suddenly a panicked Cosmog dashed into the alleyway you were hanging out in. You barely had a chance to blink before Team Aqua arrived in hot pursuit. There was a pulse of psychic power from Cosmog at the same time as a Gyarados fired a Hyper Beam into the alley.

[] Aaand that's an angry Dragon Type (that you don't recognize) rampaging through a major city (that you don't recognize). Nope not dealing with that; even with an immunity to Dragon-type moves, most dragons have plenty of off-type attacks available, and they hit really hard. Good thing you know teleport. [] SANDSTORM INCOMING! Fortunately there look to be buildings nearby you can duck into, and with how diverse the local population is you don't think anyone will think you're particularly odd. (Tattooine during Phantom Menace, Anakin is RIGHT OVER THERE)

[] You're in a city, with big skyscrapers everywhere. They look to still be rebuilding after a tsunami or something hit them. Also that two-tailed fox looking Pokemon is new. And he seems quite curious about you.

Either way, after a few minutes to take stock of the situation, it quickly becomes clear that you're not the only thing who got blasted through that whatever the fuck...

This Zorua moved from Unova a few years ago, and promptly teamed up with you to run hustles on the humans, along with the occasional heist. She's talented in illusions, a clever trickster, and formidable in combat. And you love her.

Shortly before... whatever this was, you robbed both the Game Corner in Mauville City and the Lilycove Department Store, making off with an absolutely massive stash of Technical Machines and Hidden Machines. Inventorying what came through the rift with you, about 90% of them are accounted for in good working order.

Seeing as you're blessed with thumbs, you're one of the only Pokemon competent with human-made restorative items, along with a few... distinctly less restorative items. Well over fifty Hyper Potions and Super Potions apiece, Full Heals, Max Ethers, and a couple grenades you acquired from Team Magma.

Even without a trainer, being linked to a Pokeball is handy. Not only is it a great portable home to sleep in, but the darn thing is nearly indestructible, and it's a great place to keep stuff. (If taken with Partner in Crime, Zorua also brought her ball along; will also be the default storage location for Ill Gotten Gains, Emergency Kit, and the Box Garden)

[] A Box-Garden Full of Berries
Though the effects are less... dramatic than human-made restoratives, Berries are a very reliable way of keeping in good health and dealing with injuries. Especially if you've got a knack for gardening. Which you do. You also have a portable box garden providing a respectable supply of Lum, Leppa, and Sitrus berries.

The alleyway you had appeared in was apparently right off a main road, with countless humans milling about their day-to-day lives. Staring out at it, you can't help but remark to Zorua "I don't think we're in Hoenn anymore."

Your partner takes one glance around, before noting "That was obvious. The only question is where we actually are. Too warm for Sinnoh, there's nowhere in Unova, Kalos, or Galar that uses this architectural style, too cold for Alola, and I don't think those creatures pulling carts around are actually Pokemon."

You glance out of the concealing shade of your alley, and yeah, those creatures sure look an awful lot like Pokemon, but they aren't any variety you'd know about. And when you gently brush over their minds with your psychic senses there's no comforting spark of sapience. Nor is there the black hole for psychic energy characteristic of Dark Types like your best friend.

However you do pick up on something rather odd.

"Yeah Zorua, those beasts are just animals, nothing to be worried about. Also there's a telepathic connection in the back of my mind. Doesn't feel malicious? Just... there."

Zorua tightens her eyes in mirth "Why not poke it and see what they have to say? They might actually know where we are."

Huh, alright then.

That... that makes sense, honestly.

...Wouldn't be the first time we've needed to impersonate humans, I guess?

...Wait, if there's typed humans in this world, does that mean they have type vulnerabilities? Is thunderbolt super effective on the bald kid?

I'd kind of gathered that from the "in a new universe where Pokemon aren't a thing" bit earlier, thanks.

...

Anyway, after relaying all of that, Zorua thinks for a moment "We need more information, and I don't think we can rely on your new contacts to tell us about absolutely everything. So, that means we need to do some scouting around. I can disguise myself as a human easy enough, but keeping you from being noticed is going to be quite a bit harder. How do you want to play this."

Looking out of the alley for a moment as you think, your gaze happens to pass over a group of two young humans dressed in blue and someone who's doing a very bad job of pretending to be an old man. You mention "Well, I could go in my ball and have you carry me. Or I could go out blatantly and we get to see how the people here respond to something that doesn't fit their worldview."

The two of you think for a moment about what to do... then you spot a detail about the fake old man that stands out. That guy has arrow tattoos on the back of his hands. Hadn't that been mentioned as significant? "Zorua, that fake old man has arrow tattoos. I'm gonna try taking a telepathic peek at him, but just in case it goes wrong, please be ready to catch me."

Zorua nods and makes her illusion, taking the guise of one of the locals. And with that you peer into the human's min-

You immediately zip back out, that kid definitely fits the bill for what the guy was talking about, and he seems to have noticed you.

The three of them are exchanging words that you don't understand right now, and arrow kid is looking right at you. The three of them seem more confused than hostile as they approach your current hiding spot, but this is definitely the sort of confrontation you were not looking for.

What do you do?
