Codex Entry: Hyrule's Pre-Modern History New
Codex Entry: Hyrule's Pre-Modern History

Much of Hyrule's long history is shrouded in mystery but there is strong evidence that the civilizations of Hyrule had been building cities and civilizations since long before any other race except perhaps the Asari and even that is debated, however these civilizations had a great tendency to fall or lose much of their technological progress on the regular. Hyrule claims it is due most often to the Demon King (see Codex Entry on Cycle of the Hero) rising up and devastating civilization, though some scholars have suggested it is a symptom of Hyrule's continued reliance on magic. Regardless, it is difficult to parse out how much of what is written is history and how much is religion, myth, or hyperbole.

Definitive records though begin to arise shortly after another disaster that took place that the locals had dubbed "The Calamity." Following this tumultuous time Hyrule entered an explosion of technological growth and the magical technology series known as "Guardian" technology found it's way into the hands of the average citizen of Hyrule, (the nation, not the planet). This technological explosion was headed by Princess Zelda (one of many that and a source of headache for many a historical researcher) as well as the Mother and Father of Magitech, Purah and Robbie of the Sheikah Tribe. During this time numerous quality of life inventions were made and much of the next fifty years post-Calamity were used to build infrastructure and population of the nation.

Then King Alephus Xavius Hyrule came to power and set his sights beyond his nation's boarders. No other nation they came across had the necessary infrastructure nor technology to compete with the rising empire. Within one hundred years Hyrule controlled most of the planet via either diplomacy or conquest, through that same 100 years, Hyrule also developed and deployed their first artificial satellite into orbit around their planet as well as developing a series of towers placed through the planet that could not only allow for long range instant communication, but also a network of teleportation that allowed them to move individuals near instantly everywhere on the planet that Hyrule had a presence. (Teleportation being limited by Terry's Law where teleportation beyond three individuals at a single instance of teleportation's increases at a cost so exponential as to be infeasible to accomplish.)

To this day, there are sections of Hyrule still not under the governments control nor slated to be made to join. These so called "Black Zones" are also frequently the most magically potent areas of the planet and the scientific community by and large has come to the common agreement that heading into the stated "Black Zones" is not advised.

Due to the ability to communicate instantly and the teleportation network, the great empire built by Hyrule did not collapse in the wake of their conquest. Following the 100 Years of Conquest, there began to rise frequent issues of corruption and sentient rights violations on the part of the government resulting in a civil war that ultimate resulted in another leader rising to power in Hyrule (also named Princess Zelda) that created the Prime Mandate guaranteeing certain rights to all citizens and peoples regardless of race or origin (see related codex for further details) and further created the position of The Illuminated.

In the wake of the short Civil War and Hyrule again gaining a refocus on technology for exploration and and the betterment of its people Hyrule created it's first off-world colony on its moon. In the following 150 years to reach the moment of first contact the nation of Hyrule used it's technology to begin terraforming every single planet within their reach. Magitech proved far more suited to the terraforming of planets than what the rest of the races in the galaxy are capable of and the Federation of Hyrule began to terraform planets at a rate that they had difficulty providing a population to settle said terraformed planets.

Then, in the year 2096 Hyrule again reported the rise of "The Demon King" named Gannondorf, who again united several races under his banner (including Bokoblins, Moblins, and Lizalfos) and raised them to having their own power and led them on a mission of conquest that resulted in the capture of twelve planets, eight of which still are held in the hands of the races that followed Gannondorf, but said planets are also extremely divided and made up of more than 2,000 individual nations across said planets. Gannondorf himself was defeated on the planet Nabooru and locals claim he was not defeated, but instead sealed away and all of Hyrule's military is extremely protective of the planet, making it the largest concentration of Hyrule's military forces; to an even greater degree than what their home planet contains.

Over the course of this war, (dubbed the Cataclysm War) a Prothean ruins was discovered and orbital weapons using eezo had been developed to help defeat the Warlord Gannondorf. The Illuminated that is credited for being the political leader of Hyrule at the time (Again named Zelda) emphasized the importance of this new technology and the importance of finding a way for it to work in harmony with their own mana based technology, finally culminating in the events of First Contact between the Federation of Hyrule and the races of the Citadel, where the daughter of previously mentioned Illuminated (also named Zelda) brokered the first meeting of both governments.

Codex Entry: Iron Knuckle New
Codex Entry: Iron Knuckle

The Iron Knuckle is the height of Hylian infantry on the battlefield. Steeped in an old Gerudo tradition thousands of years old though having gained refinement as the years pass. Originally, the Iron Knuckle was little more than a suit of armor and magics cast on the metal and Gerudo inside. Though there has been some documentation we have found to also compare it to some equivalent called a Darknut. The distinction between the two is unclear but is implied to be more a matter of what faction they were loyal to.

However, in the years since Purah and Robbie had incited the Magitech revolution, the Iron Knuckle has evolved to become more sophisticated. The modern Iron Knuckle includes electronics and sensor arrays that are recognizable as traditional technology, but with power sourcing from magical means of producing electricity. That is not to say that the Iron Knuckle does not also include its fair share of more inscrutable arcane manipulations. It's armor tough enough to withstand most small arms fire without issue. Iron Knuckle suits also have the ability to give feedback to the pilot to the point that when pilot grows experienced enough to properly synchronize with the suit some pilots have described it as like not wearing anything at all; it is noted, the level of truth in this statement is questioned even within the Hylian Military.

The pilots of the Iron Knuckles can be assumed to always be a Gerudo. Their size and strength often the perfect balance for the suit in even the modern day. Though there has been talk of particularly large Hylians piloting some too, though this hasn't been confirmed.

Though classified as armored infantry units, in truth, the level of cost, maintenance, and destructive power sooner compare it to a tank. Due to this high level of cost, Iron Knuckle units are rare and usually only handed out to pilots that have an extensive and decorated military record.

The Iron Knuckle can be outfitted with many different weapons, though most use at least one GR-8 Mana Shield capable of holding off concentrated fire from a large number of even high powered eezo rifles. The AX-150 is often the commonly seen primary weapon for the suit system, though there are multiple other weapon system equipped to the model. Various other parts can also be applied onto the Iron Knuckle such as back jets to help the suit move faster, shoulder mounted grenade launchers, flame throwers, or arch throwers.

One of the major drawbacks of the Iron Knuckle though is that it is a highly sophisticated mana based technology and so on high level eezo worlds the magical enchantments on it degrade at an extremely accelerated rate and will require technicians to have even higher levels of maintenance to keep the suit useful. It is also generally incompatible to all eezo based technology. This does, however, mean an Iron Knuckle is also very resistant to biotics and overpowering the innate mana aura enough to effect the machine with biotics requires a level of strain that could possibly permanently harm the average biotic.
