Governor's Gambit - Star Wars SI into Imperial Governor

As the Empire fell closer and closer to destruction, the Imperial Credit became more and more unreliable.

Why do I get the feeling that once the dust settles, our boy will end up Emperor, or at least Head of State of the Remnants? The reward for good work is... more work.

Have to admit, although enjoyable, I don't like this bit.

It jump way too fast and too far with no breather, from being a scared former slave with no knowledge of what's happening to her just deciding to go gun-tooting mercenary after a few moments with her social worker?

The pacing, and the train of logic, just doesn't track.

Tracks very well actually mercanaries are a very well known job in star wars and this is someone that wants revenge on the pirates that did this to them

Letting Bankers get any amount of power is always a dangerous folly... but it might, just might, be worth it to keep things together just long enough for everything to go down in flames.
Very much a good thing for him if think. With the galaxy about to shatter into HRE on crack having the bankers invested physically in your sector means a lot. Espescialy since they will have a few years to build up their infrastructure and investments and thus be very unwilling to give them up and run when the chips fall post DS2

Not disputing the mercs thing, just that it went from powerless slave -> wanting to be a merc with no in-between that grinds my gear.

Like, where the thoughts that went "Oh, I'm no longer an abused, overworked slaves with no thoughts or care being given and now I'm being given security and a job to go back to being a civi" or something to give the scene some moment before a reason wanting to go DOOM on some slavers.

Is it really that big a shock they would want revenge asap? And being a merc means they get paid for the privilege too. Its a win win

The Mando Migration has been a resounding success, clans flocking in to operate openly under Imperial approval. Every credit they collect is another batch of beskar they can claim is rightfully theirs. And there's no shortage in credits to be earned.

Just you watch, there's gonna be a hidden resource pool in Las' territories, tons of combat capable citizens. There is no shortage in volunteers to joining the official military, mercs, bounty hunters and security personnel. Then there's specialized talents like the civilian/merc LECA pilots, agents/kill teams from HAVEN and Mandos

Crazy how, "detached" a story can be from canon with enough distance like this story. But it doesn't mean Las is exempt from the knock-on effects of what the true MCs do that affect the setting. When Palpatine dies and the Empire is spiraling into a chaotic mess of everyone trying to rally power or follow the orders of Operation Cinder, the economy and public safety are going to suffer greatly. The last thing he needs is everyone to panic cause the foreign markets switch to the nearest dominant currency in their area and start rejecting the Imperial Credit or worse mark up prices to the difference in value.

Good call on Las to prep with the Banking Clans to back the Imperial Credit in his systems, with resource collateral to have it assured with the Galactic Credit. So even if his neighbors economies start to tank, he has enough to prep for a switch when needed. If anything this might actually flag him positively on the loyalty index by accident, the tax bureau might notice the deal but if questioned, they'd realize it's more to strengthen the Imperial Credit than to diminish. Cause anyone can push the IC with a "Trust me bro, it's still good" but the Las Credit money in his territory is still worth something.

I recommend he takes advantage of any gaps in the ship production queue, and fill those spots to churn out as many corvettes, frigates and cruisers he can. Cause the following year of Palpy's death alone will need him to bunker down within a tight area among his territories, and defend from any crazy enough to follow-up on doing his scorched earth plan or the New Republic coming to tear everything apart, cause productivity of the Sectors are too dangerous to leave in reach of Imperial Remnant territory.

It's not the reasoning, it's the disconnection with the thought process I have issues with. There's no bridge between the powerless narration she was in to suddenly finding out she was free to wanting a gun literally a spacing after.

yeah honestly not my best work. the idea was to show her anger bubbling up more slowly, for her to have been someone who's held this anger in for years and is now finally being given the chance to let it out on those she hates. But at the same time I wanted to showcase that fear that would inevitably set within the hearts of those enslaved for such a long time, and ended up focusing on that too much, so her goal at the end feels out of place.

Personally I would have shown her at her new farm week or month later realizing that she is in fact free to choose her own future and wanting to pivot into pirate hunting.

I agree. The oversector, or at least the local sector, is shaping up to be its own Empire remnant. Then again, it could always become its own mini-polity. There's no real need for the MC to keep using the Imperial system at that point.

While I doubted it would be enough to rid the sector of pirates, it would help stem the tide. Especially as reports of rising piracy across the oversector made their way to me. The Governor-General was pulling more resources towards the Coreward sectors and it was sure to cause chaos.

But, if nothing else, the Myto sector would be prepared to weather the storm.
I don't know how but somehow this is gonna come back to him getting promoted again, he's almost gonna take over the outer rim if nor in total than a large section, then hes gonna make it the most advanced simply because he has a semi open policy that doesn't promote slavery and is stable with most if not all fracture points properly fixed or with decent patches that can be properly fixed in the coming years.

To be fair I don't think she is going to become a Merc immediately. See below.
The man looked slightly annoyed at being interrupted, but answered regardless. "Mercenary work requires certification with the Guild. It is not part of the reintegration program. The fastest way there would be through an already existing mercenary company or by joining the Imperial Auxiliaries, serving for a few years, then leaving to go solo."
The mercenary company path probably isn't going to be open to her since she has no experience, so spending a couple years in Auxiliaries before going to mercenary work it the best way she can go.

"Look, I'm sorry! But they had one of those scrap-made LECAs and it startled me!" It had come out of nowhere, all sharp metal and blazing guns and he'd panicked. And missed. Thankfully, the thing had collapsed on its own, faulty wiring and rusted limbs making for a poor combat vehicle.
Looks like the pirates are trying to copy success. They have things like loadlifter droids, so it shouldn't be too hard to widen the chest and fit a sentient in there. Still is scrap quality though.
When the Tralis clan had migrated to the Myto sector, they'd quickly been given long term contracts by the local Guild. The entire clan got 50,000 credits every quarter for expenses, plus individual salaries for each warrior. And, on top of that, extra payouts for things like capturing or destroying pirate vessels, capturing pirate leaders, bases, salvage and more.
Wow, that is cheap. I mean not for an individual, but for hundreds of elite warriors in super armor that is peanuts. Raising this amount of warriors completely on the sector budget would cost a lot more.

For reference, arming a company of 144 clone troopers with DC-15s blaster carbines would cost 144,000 Credits just for the blasters alone, to say nothing of the armor and other bits. 50,000 plus wages and bonuses is going to be cheaper for a long time.
The top post of the day was a picture from a member of Clan Wulvo. It showed a brand new starfighter, the Shallows-Class interceptor design recently released by Abyssal Industries. It was fresh off the production lines, equipped with all the bits and bobs needed to protect convoys and hunt pirate freighters.
Neat the Guild has its own fighter. Well not directly owned by the Guild, but I imagine so many are going to purchased by them it is going to be associated with them.
"So, the charges of conspiracy against the Empire you were imprisoned for were found to be false. As such, you are being freed.
"We found it difficult to believe an eleven year old would be capable of committing conspiracy against the Empire. You have to be at least Star Wars adolescent protagonist age for that."
"Apologies," I said to my guests. "A representative from KDY was causing a great fuss and refused to work with my head negotiator just because she isn't human."

"Ah, we are well aware of the intricacies of dealing with certain core world attitudes" one said.
Good to see the local power groups see Las as "one of them". A lot of Outer Rim Imperial leaders don't hit that stage.
"Correct" I said, tapping some buttons on my terminal to activate the holo projector in my desk. From it appeared graphs and bars, detailing the Credits strength. Much of the data was pulled from the stock exchange on Clok, the economic center revealing plenty of information about the credit's power.

"As it stands, people are losing trust in the credit, and while the effects are manageable for now, there's a good chance it won't stay like that. I want to work with the Banking Clans to preemptively mitigate that risk."
Las doing his best to hold up the Imperial Credit in the entire region. When everything goes down the toilet, people are going to be looking to him. If only because he is the one with the money.
From there, we hashed out a rudimentary scheme. It was simple. The Banking Clans would be allowed to open branch institutions across the sector, operate their own private security forces with loosened restrictions on armaments and size, and would be given stakes in Imperial extraction sites of vital resources like Tibanna gas.
Looks like the Banking Clans get to bring their Iotran friends back. I am sure they will appreciate their long time customers being back on the security market as an employer.
Now? They knew exactly what customers wanted and in what quantities. Countless credits in goods simply sitting in warehouses doing nothing. Now? All that capital was becoming liquid again, surging throughout the economy. Warehouse districts were slowly being repurposed for other things as less space was needed for long term storage
The speed of money, it is reaching hyperdrive speeds!
Not unlike what was being done with the former slaves. The process was still slow, as despite a month having passed only a tenth of the slaves had been fully processed. Sure, the process itself was getting more efficient as people figured it out, but it would still take quite some time. And, if nothing else, it meant that the new influx of people would happen over time, instead of me having to deal with ten million new citizens all at once.
Yes complain at processing a million slaves in a month effectively and with due process. That number is still insane even on a sector wide level.
While I doubted it would be enough to rid the sector of pirates, it would help stem the tide. Especially as reports of rising piracy across the oversector made their way to me. The Governor-General was pulling more resources towards the Coreward sectors and it was sure to cause chaos.
At least Las has his bevy of private and "non-Imperial" military forces to pick up the slack.

Letting Bankers get any amount of power is always a dangerous folly... but it might, just might, be worth it to keep things together just long enough for everything to go down in flames.
Ah, but this is the banking clan. Las only offered them in his sector what they already had in their home sector anyway.

Since the Empire is going to be falling apart soon, I would find it much cooler if something Las does manages to butterfly away Operation Cinder, like some kind of built-in feature in the PDA that detects AI deepfakes, making the imperials universally reject the suspicious holograms and voices of the now-dead Emperor ordering them to for some reason destroy everything He worked so hard to build.

A much more active Legends-style Warlords era (possibly with a much more fragmented period of infighting focused less on large clusters of worlds led by high-ranking officials (which would follow the orders and likely die with their shattered infrastructure) and more on individual battlegroups and super-capital ships, deep space drydocks and local clusters. For example, instead of the massive consolidations led by Moffs, admirals and others, you'd have individual cells form around a sector, with much slower consolidations happening to form councils of Imperial Remnants capable of going toe-to-toe with the Rebellion for decades instead of the (very stupid) immediate total collapse of the Empire) would be much cooler.

Having Mola just keep going up, and up, and up, and up, and up, and up, and up, and up and up the ranks would be utterly hilarious. Especially if the First Order and subsequent stuff gets actually fleshed-out instead of being the fairly dumb (imo) thing it was in the original movies. The Templin Institute's concept for it (with some amazing concept art as well, the video was pretty good) is a cool interpretation.

Las Mola adds the Emperor's desiccated, still alive corpse to his entourage as an accountant, or perhaps a court jester.

GLORY TO THE MAGNANIMOUS, EXCELLENT, GLORIOUS AND AUSPICIOUS SUPRME CHIEF OVERLORD PRESIDENT EXECUTIVE GAS STATION imperial remnants MANAGER PHILIP ANDRADA Las Mola

Perhaps a Jawa huddled up inside one of those converted militarized Gonk Droids used by iirc a Hutt lmao
