A grimdark worldbuilding game. Provide context to the last quote and write in your own, and quote by quote we'll build a world.

Quote based Worldbuilding-Game
I have had this idea stuck in my head for way too long now.
~So let's build another world.~

The idea is this:
We are going to design a universe by layering in-universe quotes on top of each other, with one person writing something someone said or wrote in this world and the next providing context (who, when, why, ...) and the next quote.

Rules:
1. New content cannot contradict earlier/established content.
2. Anyone can join in whenever they want, as long as you follow the format.
3. First a person writes down a text, it can be anything from single sentence to grand speech or song, as long as it's not taken from somewhere. Author provides no context for this quote.
4. Next poster replies by adding who said the above quote and providing any additional context for it, then givng their own quote. And so on. Think of it as climatic fragments of fluff from a RPG book or quotes on M:tG cards.
5. Stick to the theme (see Important notice below).
6. Unlike one of my previous threads this is in the sfw section, so take care not to break forum rules by posting nsfw content.

The idea isn't mine, I found other such threads on other forums. You can check out the examples listed below so you can get an idea of what I'm aiming for.

Important notice: Theme
I would like this world to be a dark fantasy world. Like a fantasy version of 40k.
Yes I know Warhammer exists, but I'm specifically aiming for the brand of grimdark apocalyptic dystopian darkness that is 40k.
Life is hard, unjust, and short. Death and corruption lurks in every shadow. Keeping the horrors at bay is a constant struggle.
While moments of levity or peace exist, desperation, sacrifice, and necessary evils are too common.
And yet, humanity clings on by tooth and nail, clawing their way through the abyss.

So with all that out of the way, I'll start:

"Ylana and Sodal were the gods that created the world. Their very bodies formed it. Lika husband and wife they loved each other dearly, and their love and passion gave the world colour, beauty, and grace.
But Sodal died. Murdered by the darkness. His rotting corpse is home to its corruption now, and so our world has become grey and bleak, and full of evil.
Of Ylana the kind nothing is left but grief and fury. It is that grief you feel when you look upon the crawling wretches who embrace the darkness, and that fury you carry into battle to purge them from the world."
