Glad to hear you're ok OP.
btw this link pretty much covers all basic rice preparation.
An advice regarding the rice, you don't have to reduce it if you're cooking for yourself since you could always reheat it using a pot later or process it to different meal.
Also it might a good idea to stash some instant food or a bit of money by yourself, in case this incident happens again, learning how to cook could also be useful.
 
Oh were there bugs in the rice? Or were you able to prevent any from getting in?
