IN THE NAME OF KANE! The CnC Story Recs and Ideas Thread

So, I haven't seen anyone pumping out ideas and recs for one of the forerunners of the RTS genre so... let's have some fun.

To start things out, one of my ideas:

Xenonauts 1/Tiberium Dawn

It has been decades since the Praetorian Invasion, decades since half a billion people died in that horrid war, decades since the world was bathed in fire and lightning, decades since the Xenonauts attempted a hell-marry plan to ensure humanity survives. Things have changed then. Surprises have been discovered, the Xenonauts became the Global Defense Force, and mankind shifted.

So in 2020, a strange asteroid managed to bypass interception and land in the Tiber River valley in Italy... unleashing an alien material that even got the scientists within the Xenonauts stumped...

... just as a new organization -the Brotherhood of Nod- shows up on the world stage, causing chaos as it spreads the material around the world.

So begins... a Tiberium Dawn.

Well, here is a bit of how I think CnC Tiberium should be 'rebooted' both as a game and as a story. Now as a reboot, it kind of fuses with CnC Generals, which is something of a red-headed stepchild of the franchise compared to Red Alert's increasing campiness and Tiberium's realistic grittiness. This is, practical, as there should be more threats than just Nod to go up against.

... or it could be some orphan that the soviets gave the Romanov name to after they exterminated the entire Romanov family to the last just to be sure that there wouldn't be anyone to be used as political collateral... given that the player character in World in Conflict: Soviet Assault's soviet missions was also named Romanov.

It's an interesting development because without experiments Yuriko would still be a terrifying powerhouse.

Starting off with series' most vital character:

So, been playing with all sorts of ideas for CnC and I've come upon the anime BNA (Brand New Animal) and an idea came up based on my personal 'remake' CnC Tiberium (where Kane and Nod, in general, is a... frienemy... of GDI).

Due to a series of events, the various Beastmen get revealed to the world after staying (largely) quiet for untold centuries. Soon afterward, racism against Beastmen ramps up to previously not-seen-since-the-rise-of-the-Nazis levels. This causes forced segregation across the world with some areas of the world undertaking genocides of their Beastman populations and in an odd twist of irony, the Brotherhood of Nod and GDI agree on something and that something is stoping these genocides. While Nod simply makes the genociders disappear and get the genocided to GDI strongholds, GDI simply obliterates any third world government that tries and turns them into GDI administrated zones. In the first and 2nd world countries, GDI administrates the various 'Beastman cities'... leading to various discoveries...

Am I crazy or am I making things interesting? You decide!

Sanctuary City 15, Japan; April 22nd, 2035​

I've always hated Sanctuary City work, it is always showing the worst of humanity. Between governments that would rather let their populations simply carry out genocides, populations that ignore their governments in Nazi-like activities, and more, we've got our hands full. ... and now we've got a call to stop a racial killing in progress. One of the drones sighted a group of skinheads attacking one of the buses, specifically chasing a raccoon dog looking beastwoman that had been riding on top of said bus.

"Are the roadblocks set up?" I asked as the CTH-01s maneuvered through the treeline as it was escorted by LAH-01s, "I don't want these idiots somehow getting past us and causing havoc or, god forbid, getting discovered by Nod." Nod had been particularly vicious against the racists, more so than usual. Nod had stopped genocides in Africa before with such brutality that it is hard to imagine Nod being even more brutal...

"Yep and we've got infantry squads in the forest nearby just in case and... What the... shots fired. Looks like a mix of pistols and crossbows."

"We're moving in," I ordered, "Pilots, full speed. The objective is to arrest these idiots if possible, stop them before they start injuring civilians by any means necessary if unable. I don't want another Sanctuary 13 on our hands."

"Rodger."

"Wilco."

"Understood."

"Affirmative."

The helicopters spread out into a loose double echelon formation and surged forward. We were quickly upon them, two of the CH-01s had their dismounts repel down and secure the vehicle while two of the LAH-01s gave cover. My CH-01 and its partner maneuvered towards the forest as some of the skinheads chased the raccoon dog beastwoman into the forest...

An errant pistol round bounced off my suit's armor plate as my platoon-mates moved in. Our company commander said it best, Sanctuary City assignments are the worst assignments for they display the worst of humanity on a near-daily basis. If it wasn't the various skinheads, it's Nod making examples of said skinheads and if it isn't Nod making examples, it is various terrorist groups and megacorporations that test our patience with humanity. This situation, however, is skinheads getting stomped on by us with an innocent in the middle. Just about one of the worst situations to face.

We manage to get into visual contact with the skinheads and their target, just as several helicopters managed to get overhead.

"GDI! Drop your weapons and put your hands behind your head!" I barked, "Do as we say and we won't fill you with holes!" One of the skinheads simply laughed at the order and started pointing their weapons at us despite the fact that they wouldn't be even scratch the paint.

"So, you think you order us around?" the leader responded with a psychotic grin on his face, "We're untouchable, so just let us kill this bitch and we'll be on our way." I simply gave the HUD signal to move my squad between the skinheads and their target.

"We can't let you do that," I retorted, "Are you hard of hearing? We're GDI, not some police precinct that you can bully into submission to look the other way. So, just do what we say and your blood won't be painting the forest."

"... and if we don't do it your way?" the leader asked with a confident smirk.

"Well, that would be resisting, and that would mean you'll get a first look at how outclassed you are fighting power armor in the best-case scenario," I riposted back, "If you resist with your weapons, then you'll be dead and what remains won't be able to be fitting in a shoebox. I should know, we've already had a few of your kind try to create a mess here and paid that price for their shenanigans." I smirked as several of the skinheads shivered. "You better surrender without a fight, because it'll only get worse from here."

"Figures," the leader spat, "let's show them why we get our way." That was when they produced mil-spec grenades and were about to arm them when 9.5mm bullets ripped through them as the LAH-01s fired their machineguns. My squad simply shook their heads in annoyance and the stupidity of it all.

"Why do nine out of ten of these idiots always take the 'you die' choice," I complained as my XO took a look at the beastwoman, "tell City Director Neumann that we've got another PR situation going to be coming to his desk." Then I look at the beastwoman. "Also get Medical on the horn, tell them we might have another HTBV*."

"Understood. Director Neumann is so going to blow out our ears when he hears about this..."

* Human To Beastman/woman Victim: Term for those unlucky sods of humans who get transformed by some crazy using the medical system as a methodology of distribution. So far the only way to prevent these is using GDI-manufactured medical supplies, but GDI can't supply the entire world's medical supply...

So, I've been playing with an idea that boils down to 'GDI, when doing a program to improve EVA between TibWar 1 and 2, stumbled upon making a Bolo AI'... that would be quite a story.

What a way to start off the new year.

A crazy idea but an idea nonetheless: Kane isn't just in the CnC Red Alert/Tiberium timelines but in quite a few others... including Horizon Zero Dawn.

When the Apocalypse was happening, HZD!Kane (being the magnificent bastard that tried to take everything into account he was) activated CABAL (this time using alien code on human hardware instead of a mix of human brains and hybrid human/alien computer code) with one overriding directive: Assist Zero Dawn. Using its own bunker complex and stolen technology, CABAL discovered that Zero Dawn has partially failed, somehow, and one of the 'Black List' signals is active. So, it decided to set up a base of operations and -using the HZD!Tacitus- constructed a trans-dimensional bridge, luring GDI to this version of Earth.

... and so begins GDI's attempt at trying to find out what the fuck happened on that version of Earth, why they were lured to the trans-dimensional bridge, and destroy the rogue robots that inhabit it because they don't fucking stop.

There's a file in the CoronaLauncher/CoronaData/Temp folder named corona_3.14A.zst (or 3.15A if you have that version) that you need to change the extension to .lyi in order for the automatic installer to properly read it. Once installed, if you run into that issue again, just look for the same file-name in one of the other folders to do the same thing again. Once you got that fixed, just get the English patch on the Discord server (found in the Announcements channel, with the file-name "HighResShadow.big") and replace the old file with the same name within the CoronaLauncher/CoronaResources folder, and you'll be good to go!

Found out what was wrong: it simply didn't like the fact that it had to search in another hard drive (I have an SSD hard drive for my Microsoft programs like Office and general OS updates... which is also where all my downloads that aren't Mega download were going).
