Linking to posts

I link every post in my story to a contents list on the second post in my current active thread. I take the link from the misleadingly titled 'permalink' tool in the bottom right hand corner.

It turns out that these aren't permanent at all. At this point most of my links have become disassociated and now link to a post on the page after the actual story posts.

Please change permalink tool to show the link to actual posts.

Huh, the first one actually links to the post properly on mobile rather than ending up halfway down the page from not taking signatures into account.

For anyone wondering what Zoat's complaining about:

Default behaviour on XenForo for permalink is to link to the page of the thread that a post is on, and then scroll down to the actual relevant post.

The problem is that users can delete their own posts, and that XenForo doesn't count deleted posts toward the number of posts per page. So posts can get retroactively moved to a lower-numbered page than the one they were on when the link was posted (particularly in threads with thousands of posts, as it's reasonably likely that quite a few will wind up deleted). At that point the permalink fails, because the link goes to the wrong page and then the "scroll to relevant post" doesn't do anything due to the post not being on the page loaded.

(There would, of course, be a new permalink available at that time, as XenForo's permalink generation is always currently accurate. But that doesn't help someone who's trying to follow a permalink posted months/years ago, since that doesn't auto-update.)
