Making a Gamer system in our world type thing, wanted to know what people think

So far I was going along with the idea that the MC would bounce between two realities, one is our current world, set in 2018, and the second one would be the video game Conan Exiles, since I have been playing that game religiously for the past like three months. I don't know if that defeats the purpose of having the novel even take place in our world. Frankly I am open to doing this in such a way that the MC takes our current world as a tutorial and then ends up going into the conan exiles game later on. like as his second world. Any ideas? They are all very welcome

Why not have it be the actual Conan novels taking place in Earth's pre-history?

That's the actual original setting as set out by Robert E Howard.

But if you DO do this, please note that the Conan novels are set in the same 'universe' as Lovecraft's novels and Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan and John Carter of Mars novels.

Basically, the old pulp novels are interconnected.

Which actually allows you a mechanic to do that sort of travelling between current day Earth and the Pre-History of Conan in the Hyberborean era. It's basically "Alien" or "Elder God" super-science/magic at work. It's just that your MC interprets things as a game system.

Well dang that's a good idea, I have never read the original Conan novels, I've read Tarzan, I even have the MC referencing the in my opinion famous loin cloth of his, I have no idea how I would do it but its a great idea.
