Was playing Hyrule Warriors, and it occurred to me that I'm one of maybe a hundred people who ship Malink. Got me wondering what other oddball pairings you guys support, crossover or otherwise.

Mine aren't anything too out of the ordinary;
Malon/Link (LoZ:OoT)
Midna/Link (LoZ:TP) (Actually more common than I thought, upon research.)
Imoutos/Touma (TaMnI) (Yes, all of them. All 10k of them, minus WORST and 20001. Maybe plus Misaka. It's the only harem I support.)
Ranma/Ego (Ranma 1/2) (This needs explaining. I don't support a Ranma pairing anymore, other than maybe Suika/Ranma. Rather, I think Ranma's best match is his own ego.)
Marisa/Patchouli (Touhou)
Yukari/Yuyuko (Less romantic, more drinking buddies turned old wives.)
Naruto/Fu (Naruto) (Erm... Fu the Jinchuuriki, not the ROOT member.)

I'm sure I'll think of more later. What about you guys?

Well, yeah, but while I don't mind harems in general (so long as everyone involved actually has agency of some sort. I'm looking at you, every mainstream anime ever.), I'm not fond of the whole harem concept in Touhou. There are simply too many pairings that work really well to just throw all of the persons at Marisa like people do with Naruto. There's a really good music video that sums up why I love Marisa/Patchy, let me see if I can find it.

You can probably tell I'm also a Shirou/Sakura shipper from that, but I didn't bother mentioning that, since it's fairly common.

Ganondorf/Zelda: I have no real justification for this. I just like it. Also, ever since I read Soon I Will Be Invincible I've been a sucker for the villain who loses over and over, but keeps trying anyway.

John/Vriska (Homestuck): Not... really a nonstandard OTP, but significantly rarer after the author sunk the ship. For no good reason. And replaced it with a pair of crackships with no development whatsoever. No, I'm not bitter at all, why do you ask?

Rize/Kaneki (Tokyo Ghoul): Yes, I am aware that she is a mass-murdering psycho. That hasn't stopped me from shipping John/Vriska, either.

Taylor/Literally nobody (Worm): Because YOU DON'T ALWAYS NEED TO PAIR PEOPLE, GUYS.

Shirou/Sakura: I'd say it counts as a nonstandard OTP because it's quite rare, at least that I've seen. Most people ship the other two heroines. Probably because they've had animes.

Asgore/Toriel (Undertale): This really shouldn't be a nonstandard OTP, given that they're ex-spouses, but whatever. I think it is primarily because Asgore was basically treated like a joke in the Pacifist route, and that's what stuck in peoples' minds.

Lio Shirazumi (the version in Maybe I'm a Lion)/His own internal monologues: They're perfect for one another. And hilarious together.
 
Harry/Luna. All the major shipping wars seem to be between H/G and H/Hr. H/L is a pretty neglected ship.

I think that's kind of it. I'm sure more will occur to me later, but that's the one that sticks out.
 
Joffrey/Lysa Arryn. They're perfect for each other, possibly with Littlefinger as the real father the any children to the pairing there.
 
Jaune/Cinder (fuck all the haters I think it's cute), Ron/Bonnie (see before), Danny/Ember (I just like this one soo much), Yuuki Rito/kleenex box (you know that's the closest thing to him given everything that has happened to him), Ghandi/nukes (IT WAS MEANT TO BEEEEEEEEEEE), Raynor/Nova (I don't know if this is popular but I SHIP IT, even as a always side with Tosh because bros before hos), Cave Johnson/Lemons (because he helped them improve themselves so much :V)
 
Hmm, I honestly can't think of any weirder than Ruby x Penny. For the most part I prefer canon ships (eg Korrasami).
 
Link/Saria, with no good fics that I've found.
Azula/Katara, after the only good fic I've found of it.
 
I've done a post on my OTPs before, on another forum... I had trouble thinking of any that weren't essentially married already. (Everyone ships Romeo/Juliet, Marty/Jennifer, and to a lesser extent Monty Jones/Ginny Smith, because, well, that's the obvious option.)

The only one remotely unusual that I still remember from the list is Porry/Amelie (as far as I can tell, most of the few people who have an opinion on this obscure series in the first place ship Porry/Mergione).

There was also one case where, to paraphrase my recollection of what I had originally written, the author had explicitly said it won't happen and recent plot developments make it impossible (presumably the latter means that one of the characters had died). I can't figure out which setting I would have been talking about, however. (And I suspect that it was a common OTP anyway.)

EDIT: Oh, and while it's really unfair to Kif, I prefer Fry/Amy to Fry/Leela - no idea why.

I found that post, and the pairing was Max Frei/Melamori Blimm. Suffice to say, while technically neither of them had died, the description was still valid (and apparently new plot developments since I wrote that post had technically made it possible again).

A case where one of the two did die (also from the same post) was Vladimir Lensky/Tatyana Larina.

And, apparently, there's Aragorn/Eowyn, which I don't consciously recall proposing, but the more I think of it the more it makes sense...

The story literally falls apart. Sorry, but I must speak on this.

Aragon's motivation in the story is Arwen, for whom he must take what is rightfully his, the sceptre of Arnor, and the throne of Gondor making him -the- king of the old Numoreran realms. Because that was the deal. Elrond would not let Aragon court/marry Arwen otherwise. And Elrond Half-Elven knows a few things about human - elf relationships. Without that motivation Aragon has no reason to not just keep doing Ranger things in the north and never joins the fellowship. You'd have to pull serious shenanigans going back decades to get Aragon there. Might as well make an OC or dig for another Ranger to put in The fellowship. But then you lose Narsil and that awesomeness. And a lot of the authority shenanigans Aragon gets to pull when in Gondor.

So basically you need Aragon and Arwen to be the ship.

Also him suddenly going 'I like this woman I've known for days more than the woman I've loved for literally decades' really takes a lot of the strength of character out of the character.

Similarly, refusing Eowyn is what made her go on her self appointed suicide mission following the men (re: her and Famair in the books has the full subtext of her wanting to die because the man she loved didn't love her back and her dad figure is now dead but then Faramir who is a lot like Aragon in a lot of ways is smooth af and successfully woos her out of depression.) And if she doesn't go the witch king doesn't die and fucks up the rohirimm offensive.

Aragon/Arwen is one of those ships that must happen. Literally any other pair pairing won't implode the story, but changing that one would.

But I will concede that Aragon is old enough he wouldn't outlive Eowyn for long, and she's a better wife for a king of resurgent Arnor that comes from what is essentially a roving band of good people bandits (like Beren One Handed was) killing monsters.

To be on topic though, I really like Robin/Artemis from young justice, split brain syndrome is the fanfic that sold me on it. Jaune/Coco for Rwby because iunno, she'd probably train him into her perfect boyfriend, not sure how I'd make it work though. Keitaro/Motoko and Kitsune/Naru from Love Hina, really a shame the author ran out of time and had backed himself into a corner with Naru and Keitaro. Starfire/Raven from Teen Titans. Supergirl/Wonder girl because double blondes ye.

Raven/Jinx (Teen Titans) (Actually surprisingly common.)
Luffy/Boa Hancock (One Piece) (Only because I can't ever see him interested in relationships at all, and Boa's interested enough for the both of them. One Piece has done a really good job keeping shippers away, I've noticed, because the only romance involved is the sort found in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms.)
Jaune/Neo (RWBY) (I blame Professor Arc for this one.)
Geralt/Shani (Witcher) (Don't get me wrong, I love Yennifer as a character, and maybe if I'd read the books I'd like the pairing, but I got too attached to Shani in the first two games, and having her get written off in the background story of 3 pissed me off to no end.)
Jude/Leia (Tales of Xillia) (I've got a thing for childhood-friends-turned-lovers. Speaking of...)
Keitaro/Naru/Otohime (Love Hina) (I like K/N, and I like K/O. I suspect if I could find N/O that didn't involve Keitaro bashing, I'd like that, too. So why not all three?)
