If we consider tagging from a set based perspective you can suddenly resolve quite a few issues. For example, si/oc is the full set of si and oc tagging. Someone can search for each seperately or together.

What you're talking about is the same as the Parent/Child tag functionality that QQ doesn't currently possess. SB has it, but it's an add-on, not core XF functionality, and QQ doesn't purchase that add-on.

I would like to gently-to-moderately push against merging the general "self insert" with "si/oc" stuff. It's a pet peeve of mine, but the "original character insert" that is the latter, is very often not the author's "self." They are often very distinct kinds of stories from actual self insert stories, and wanting to read one of those genres doesn't necessarily include the other.

Basically, they're adjacent genres, but not the same, and so I would advocate for the idea that they probably should be separate.

There's also a tag of selfinsert (no dash, no space) floating around. This could also be merged with the tags, 'transmigration' and 'isekai'. Isekai in general might be a good umbrella term.

Selfinsert should be merged with the SI tar, yes, but not so much the other to. Isekai and transmigration are two different things however, while transmigration is a common method for self-insertion, it's not exclusive to self-insertion, and is actually a fairly common trick in a lot of Xianxia for the powerful expert types to be able to (after losing their bodies) either take over a new body, or reincarnate with at least part of their memories intact. On the contrary, isekai can be through transmigration, transportation or some other means to send someone (SI or otherwise) to another world (which is what Isekai means in the first place). So, yeah, those three tags should stay seperate, not because they're mutually exclusive, but because they're informative.
 
'selfinsert' was already merged into 'self-insert', to be clear. It was part of the list.

There used to be 461 threads with 'self-insert' tagged. 'self insert' was actually the more popular variation, with 3,013 threads tagged. Now 'self-insert' has 3,670 threads tagged, and I'll add another 111 to the search results after Synonymising 'partial-self insert' with it.

Edit: Looking at the tag cloud in advanced search, it seems to be the most common tag on the forum right now.

Is it possible to have two tagging systems? Like one to sort what the author tagged it as and what users tagged it as?

I mean, technically you can already 'tag' stories in such a way, using purely the bookmark functionality on QQ, there's just not a way of sharing or comparing that with other users (aside from making a thread to post about it). Just make the OP of a thread a QQ bookmark, and include a score in the label.
