She's an ex-villainess (though ex only in the sense of already being in a bad end, not that she learned anything from her bad end) after all, so it kinda goes with the territory. It's heavily implied earlier that she was kicked out of the imperial academy for some otome game villainess shenanigans. She's such an unlikable character. If that's what you were going for that's some good fucking writing.
I sure hope not (because there is no separate books 1 and 2), if I fucked up on the postings I'll fix it.You're posting book 1 and 2 at the same time, in different threads?

Edit: I'm not sure what you're talking and kinda afraid to ask. While I been simultaneously posting this story across multiple different forums/sites it shouldn't have been that confusing.
A full generic isekai protag would have been too busy with action adventure and harem/romance shenanigans to even notice all the problematic cultural issues of the world in question, except perhaps in the occasional moments where he minorly helps out some randomass village (which won't really make a difference in the long run).this seems a crapsake world, and i get the feeling that if it was a full isekai or SI, rather then a local born hearing the isekai voice, he would have left...
Pretty much all the ruling class of the various kingdoms/empires/whatever in the world are douchebags of various flavors, with the root of the problem being one of technological stagnation (due to the previous apocalypses knocking out a lot of the intermediate steps and thus creating gaps that couldn't be easily crossed) and the social classes being frozen for so long that the upper class have lost touch with reality. Walter (the voice of James really) is inadvertently reintroducing a reality check back into the world, and they don't like it one bit. This feels like walter was living and now fighting on the side of ' The Evil Empire' too much...
Yeah that's one of the problems with having a native protag is that he would be familiar enough with the local culture to the point where most explanations would seem out of place. Don't worry though, James is probably just as confused as you and most of the readers.but seeing things from the POV of walter, without enough exposition for some is confusing.
I promise [part of] a cheerful song in the final chapter (which that part has already been written)...
"The punishment for high treason is death, condemnation of memory, and obliteration of the soul. It's rather hard to tack on more to those." He pointed out.
In universe: They believe the shit they're saying & doing.Hold up! they can do this?! Is this some sort of Sokyoku type stuff or just metaphorical.
No. (I did tag it grimderp for a reason)is it April 1st in your timezone at the time of publishing this?
My next project (a normal sci-fi space opera, currently at the worldbuilding stage, eta sometime in July due to RL stuff going on) will be a lot more cheerful and upbeat (despite having a nuclear apocalypse in the backstory).Well, it is a realistic Isekai. Props to you for choosing to let it play out. I admit, I prefer happier endings but this was an ending.
Good point. I guess I went overboard with the purging of "filler contents" as I tend to dislike isekai stories that spent a lot of time going nowhere. Will keep that advice in mind going forward. My biggest complaint is that I do feel like the jump from chapter 6 to 7 and then to 8 was a bit too fast. Like maybe another scene would help slow down the plot so it feels less like jumping from one battle and its aftermath to partway through an plot arc.
