Chapter 1
"What am I looking at here?"

He was confused. Not in an 'I can't find my keys,' confused, but more in an 'I can't find my house because it got launched into space without my knowledge,' confused.

[It is a wheel.]

He stared blankly at the screen with a prompt that appeared in front of him.

"I can see that you know. What I mean is how did I get here and what is the point of this wheel?"

[It is a wheel of selection.]

"… Are you doing this on purpose?"

He was promptly ignored.

[As for how you are here, well, you died.]

"… Huh, well okay."

The moment of silence was telling.

[Is that it?]

Now he was even more confused.

"What do you mean?"

[Well, when one is told of their demise, they often act differently than you do.]

"Differently?"

[Most are unaccepting of their demise and lash out or start muttering things like 'This can't be happening,' or 'I want to live,' before they devolve into insanity. Some who act indifferent or believe that death was a good thing since 'I hated everyone and everything anyway,' or 'I suffered more than anyone in this world, reincarnation is what I deserve.' The former is usually the norm with human behavior, while the latter could be referred to as what modern-day people call an 'edgelord.']

"Sounds kinda callous."

[First, you should understand, that death does not have sentience. It is not a force or state of being either. It is an action. Similar to how you push force downwards, it is called a 'jump,' when one loses their life, it is called 'death.' Secondly, everyone lives through some form of suffering. Stating that one has suffered the most in the world is an arrogant statement.]

"Makes sense."

[Which is why the reaction you displayed was… enlightening somewhat.]

"How so?"

[The reaction you displayed is more often displayed in the elderly who are aware that they have lived through their lives, but even then, they are not as accepting as you are. Even they would ask questions like 'Who are you?', 'Where am I?', or 'Are you, God?']

"I thought you said the indifference was arrogant."

[You are not indifferent; your emotions are being projected here. It seems that it was normal during your life. When you dropped out of college, you were upset, but after a week or so you seemed to accept that it happened and proceeded to find a job. You felt emotions as strongly as others, but it seems that your ability to accept things is much higher.]

"That's not true, I remember standing up for my friend when they were going through some trouble."

[True, then allow for a rephrasing. You can accept reasonable situations.]

"Yeah, that sounds about right. The college thing was my fault, I slacked off too much and I let my grades fall. My friend's problem was in no way caused by himself, but by another."

[So as long as you recognize that in the end, the fault lay with you, then you were accepting of it?]

"Yeah, I lived with an 'It is what it is,' attitude. Helped me keep things stress-free, especially with the whole COVID thing going on."

[As enlightening as this is, it is time to move on]

"Right, the wheel."

[This is a wheel that will choose your reincarnation.]

"… Okay, that's cool."

[Are you not going to ask, 'Why me?']

"If I get reincarnation, then I get reincarnation. Not gonna question it."

[Very well. The first spin will select the 'world' you will be sent to. The following spins will change depending on the result of the 'world' spin.]

"Okey-dokey."

He reached out and pulled the lever and the wheel proceeded to spin. Eventually, the wheel slowed and finally stopped…

On Highschool DxD.

"The Boob Dragon, right?"

[Correct.]

He simply nodded after the prompt's reply.

"Glad it's not something like Worm."

[You don't like Worm?]

"I like it as a story, not a place to live."

[Understood. Moving on, the next wheel will allow for race selection. Do note that due to the 'world' selection some races have been removed.]

He spun the wheel again.

"While we wait, why do you add quotations around the word world?"

[For 'worlds' that have interstellar travel and magics like the Second True Magic.]

"Ah, I see."

The wheel was starting to slow down and stopped.

Devil (DxD).

[Due to race selection, the following spins have been altered. The next spin will have certain 'boons' so to speak. Do note that not all selections are positive and multiple spins may be allowed depending on the result.]

He spun again. It stopped again.

Low Talent – Magic.

"Well damn, for a race that likes to believe in magical might, this kinda sucks."

[You were warned that not all 'boons' were positive. Either way, due to the result of the spin, you get another chance.]

This time was a better result.

Pinnacle Talent – Sword (Unorthodox Included)

"What's unorthodox included mean?"

[Wild yet fluid movements or styles such as Zoro's Three Sword Style, or Sigurd from Fate throwing his sword. Next is the skillset selection, please spin.]

Re: Zero – Reid Astrea (Skillset and Abilities)

He was silent for a few moments before he decided to speak.

"Hey, this is that guy who was the ancestor of Reinhard, right?"

[Yes]

"He was capable enough at martial arts to channel force through his body and out his feet? Effectively making him immune to blunt attacks and weapons?"

[Yes]

"Master swordsman?"

[Yes]

"Same guy, who hunted Evil Dragons to extinction?"

[Yes]

"Same guy, who could use a basic slash to vaporize opponents?"

[Yes]

"Same guy, who could cut through concepts?"

[Yes]

"Same guy who decided to fight the main cast with a Pair of Chopsticks, and in the one instance that he did use a sword and did vertical slash, no one-no one in the Re: Zero franchise could comprehend it?"

[Yes]

"Usually, I would have just rolled with it, but isn't this a bit much? Especially with the talent, I got earlier? Not that I don't want it."

[To achieve what he did, Reid already had a similar level of talent, including the unorthodox part, how else do you expect him to have fought with chopsticks and won? Also, you only have his skill set and abilities, not his experience. This means that if you want to do what he was able to, you need to train. Of his abilities, you will have his inhuman strength, power, and intuition; which will be re-ratioed to devil physiology compared to his human physiology, which will make you much stronger than Reid in that aspect. His swordsmanship and martial arts must be trained from top to bottom for you to reach his level. This will indeed make you quite strong, but in DxD the power ceiling is still much higher, so you would still have other beings who could give you a challenge. Not to mention due to your low magic talent, your magical resistance will also be much lower than some other devils, which you can train up. Also magic is much more abundant in DxD than it is in Re: Zero, so Reid's skill set will not take the magic level of DxD into account, which you will need to do. So with all things said, your capabilities will not be too much of an outlier compared to the overall capabilities of the DxD upper limit.]

"So, in other words, I need to take the path of Rock Lee, or in this case Sairaorg."

[Please proceed to parentage selection.]

"Sure."

High-Class Pureblood Devil Family (Power)

"So, I'm a noble?"

[No. Rias Gremory and Sona Sitri are High-Class socially, but not quite in power, though only in the beginning, like every other living being, they too experience growth. For reference, a High-Class powerhouse often takes up the position of a commander of a small squad of 15-25. In DxD, to truly through your weight around, you must be an Ultimate-Class at the minimum. For reference, all of the Pillar Heads are at least Ultimate-Class, with some being close to Satan-Class.]

"A slightly above average family?"

[Yes. That was also the final spin. Good luck in your new life young man.]

"Farwell and thanks for the chance."

So how are you going to handle power levels? The Top Ten list doesn't make sense. Or actually how are you going to handle the MCs growth since he has Reid's talent he should grow in power much faster but what about others as well, (you could have MC start centuries before canon so he has plenty of time to get swole and not rush it). I hope you don't go with the excuse that devils are lazy and they never bother training. Which is dumb, the devils were artificially designed weapon race by lucifer and they are in a devil society which I assume is just a toned down version of cultivatior society since the great king faction uses the king pieces to have a much greater sway over devils. Not counting the fact that they were in a war with a chance of dying not because of luck but because of power.

Also I hope you don't go with Imagination Magic, I can become a God in a decade or something like that. If someone could do that it would already have been done (Ajuka or Gods of Wisdom, Magic or Intelligence).

It's a good start, but it's mired with too much talking in circles about "you died. Roll for next life" when the first chapter should be a hook, this instead is more of a list of stuff you got to use in DxD, good prose non withstanding.

Still, if the rest the story is better than this well written yet lackluster beggining, you got my watch!

Chapter 2
Chapter 2
It was a boring party.

Serafall Sitri could admit that much. She didn't even understand why she had to come instead of her parents. The Satan Descendants as usual were going on and on about how they were the superior race and the world deserved to bow at their feet, blah blah blah blah.

Honestly, the only solace in this that she could take was that were friends Sirzechs Gremory, Ajuka Astaroth, and Falbium Glasya-Labolas were also sent by their parents.

Quite frankly, if it wasn't for the fact that the other attendees at this party were also heirs and heiresses, Serafall would have thought that her parents didn't want to deal with this nuisance.

"I wish I could just go home."

She elbowed Sirzechs for saying what she wanted to.

"Be quiet, and don't say something like that again. You don't know if the Descendants will hear you."

"I think you're worrying a bit too much Sera. We aren't that close and the others who have grouped up are whispering too."

She was about to correct him, but Falbium beat her to it.

"That's not what she means. The waiters at this party are all hired by the Satan Descendants, there's no doubt that they're listening in on the conversations as they pass by. Those who are saying something against the Descendants will likely be going through some hard times after tonight. And I don't mean as an individual, but rather their clan."

"Oh."

Sirzechs paled a little. As easygoing as he is, Sirzechs won't do anything to endanger his family.

"Yes 'oh,' and it doesn't help that our table is where two of its occupants are devils who were born with abnormal levels of power and the other two occupants are devils who reached Ultimate-Class when they were 19. Most of the attention has been on us since the start of this party. Even as the Satan Descendants speak, everyone else has been glancing at us now and then."

All four of them sighed at that. Their friend group had always been relatively tight as they had known each other since Ajuka and Sirzechs were nine and Serafall and Falbium were 14. Of course, at first, some would talk about Falbium and her behind their backs. Saying how they were trying to latch onto Sirzechs and Ajuka, it was even worse for her since a lot of people were saying how she was trying to seduce them. Serafall would later come to learn that those rumors began from the rivals of their clans to sow discord into the little alliance that the four families had.

But that changed three years ago. The Sitri Clan were always water specialists, but Serafall had a slight mutation in her clan trait which allowed her to specialize in Ice Magic to an extreme level. It was to such a level that she was only matched by a Lucifage, one who was similar to her in age.

This normally wouldn't have amounted to much, after all, being able to wield such power meant nothing if the user wasn't powerful enough to do anything with it. But when Serafall had just passed her 19th birthday, she did something unexpected. She had reached Ultimate-Class, and Falbium had too, reaching it only a few months after she did.

After that, praises were being sung about Serafall and her friends, and it was nothing but happy times from then on.

Or at least that was what she would like to think.

Everything was going well at first, but then the praises and looks changed again. It began from the Satan Descendants. How they would look at us and seemingly think that we were going to be a threat to them and their power. Almost as if we were going to rebel against them, which was ridiculous in her opinion. It felt degrading to her personally, considering how hard she had to train to reach that level.

Serafall got it the worst from the Leviathans due to their clan traits being so similar. It didn't help that Tsufaame Tereaku Leviathan was gathering support to officially rise to the position of Satan Leviathan. Quite frankly at this point, only Rizevim Lucifer was the closest thing to an official Satan due to how many people obey him, but he doesn't care about running a government.

She hopes that the four children of the Original Satans would hurry up and assume their positions so that all this talk of rebellion would go away, but unfortunately, that won't happen anytime soon. The reason is that they want their rise to power to also be at the same time that they restart the Great War to truly defeat the Angels and the Fallen, all so that they can recreate the world with their ideal vision. Right now, they were trying to gather resources to start the next battle in full swing.

Thinking about that made Serafall even more annoyed. After all, it's as if they ignored the fact that there are other pantheons and if they tried something like that, then those gods won't just sit back and watch.

"They're right Sirzechs. Even as uninterested in politics as I am, my father has recently been telling me to pay more attention and to be more careful."

Hearing Ajuka agree with us made Sirzechs sigh even more.

"I know Ajuka, but I didn't think that things were this bad."

At this point, I decided to speak up.

"It wasn't always, but recently things have been getting much worse. The Descendants have been getting more and more tyrannical as of late. The children of the Satans are bad enough, but the grandchildren of the Satans are even worse. And it doesn't help that the one who can do anything about them, Rizevim Lucifer, just doesn't care."

As bad as Tsufaame Tereaku Leviathan, Bidleid Bashalun Beelzebub, and Damaidosu Zereikel Asmodeus were, Serafall knew for a fact that Shalba Beelzebub, Katerea Leviathan, Creuserey Asmodeus, and Razevan Lucifer were much worse.

"Serafall," Falbium hissed at her to be quiet.

"Don't worry Fal, right now they're paying attention to Tsufaame's bragging," she said while pointing with her jaw in another direction.

The other three looked over, and sure enough, the daughter of the Original Leviathan was regaling about how her mother killed a group of six wing angels on her own during the Great War.

"Is it wrong to hope that we don't have to go to war again?"

At Sirzechs' question neither Serafall, Ajuka, nor Falbium said anything, but they silently agreed that they too did want to go to war.

"While that's a nice sentiment Sirzechs, we can't afford to always be so kind, not in this era. Maybe in the future kindness like that would be acceptable, but not now," she told her gentle friend.

"I know Sera, my father has already taken me to skirmish with the Fallen near the borders."

We once again, fell into silence as we each were likely thinking about the time our parents took us to battle. This kind of thing is a way of initiating heirs and heiresses, after all, even if we don't start the attack now, the clan heads all knew that it was only a matter of time. Because of this, our parents decided to let us have our first battle in a controlled environment with them close by. Their parents were a bit protective in that sense, especially since they had participated in the tail end of the Great War, and they knew how intense war could get.

"Let's move onto an easier topic rather than wallowing in negativity," Ajuka suggested, to which we all nodded.

"Sera, I heard your parents are getting you an escort?"

Serafall rolled her eyes at that.

"Fal, all of our parents are getting us escorts," before Falbium could refute, Sirzechs jumped to respond first.

"Yes, but ours are still looking through the possible candidates, while yours have already decided on who they want."

It was a given that as heirs and heiresses, the clan heads would often find the best way to ensure their legacies. One method in specific was the escort. Escorts were often found from retainers who were of similar age so that way a bond was easier to form between the two. And as time goes on, an heir would have a loyal ally and friend to rely on.

Escorts were also used as a way of bragging and gaining prestige for both escort and heir. The best example at the current time would be the Lucifers and the Lucifages. So, getting an escort for an heir was a big deal.

"I too, am curious Sera," Ajuka spoke up as well.

Sigh. "Well, I haven't met him yet, but my parents have told me about him," she started "supposedly he is the son of two devils from one of our guard squads. From what I was told he focuses on wielding a sword rather than using magic."

That got looks of surprise from her three friends. It was expected, she also had the same look when her father told her the same. After all, devils highly regarded magical might, especially after the whole Solomon fiasco before the Great War. Magical might became even more highly regarded during the Great War when the counter to the Angels' and the Fallens' magic light spears was even more magic of our own.

"Swords?" Sirzechs asked. He didn't look down on sword users, no one in the three factions did after Arthur and Excalibur, but it was unheard of for a devil to focus on sword over magic. Devilkind just didn't process using something over our magic or clan traits. Sure, they had experimented on such things now and then, but even those were all created from devil magics.

"Father, even said that his talent for magic is the poorest that he's seen in a devil."

Serafall could see the increased confusion on the faces of her friends.

"Do you know his parents?" Ajuka questioned.

She nodded, "They're both High-Class devils, and they've even guarded me before."

"Well, I'm sure that your parents know what they're doing."

The conversation from there delved into who they thought might become their escorts for the rest of the party.

As the party came to an end, Serafall bade farewell to the hosts, the Satan Descendants, and she didn't miss the dirty looks that Katerea sent her. She merely gave her politest smile to that and walked away to her family's butler that came to teleport her home.

"I hope that things will get better soon."

Nice chapter
So, we got the setting of story is before Devil Civil War and Our MC is the son of Guard in Sitri clan. Its very interesting setting and i cant wait to see how you will play it. Yeah, Rizevim isnt care about goverment the devil. I can image when he hear about civil war he will say the show is begin or something.

Last time I read a story of someone who had almost zero magic potential and used swords, guarding a high ranking noble in a society that glorifies said magical power...

I was reading Princess Guard Quest.

God I hope it's not like Princess Guard Quest...

Mmm huh. Make me feel fucking old why dontcha?

Okay. Short story: in the olden days on chan's /q/, there was a quest where voters played a guy of their make in a High Fantasy world where the magic and nobility system where akin to Familiar of Zero's, and he was the personal bodyguard of the Princess of the realm.

Voters chose to make an underdog story where the guy was a master swordsman with zero magic skills, with the premise of being a cool Shounen-like story ala Black Clover (before Black Clover).

It didn't work like that. Either the Author was throwing a questwide hissy fit over not wanting to be a "cool spellcaster", he just got his rocks off at seeing people fail, or he was just absolutely shit at being a QM, but the poor kid was the Super Saiyan of Woobies with the amount of shit he got flinged at him, all in a well written railroad of a quest.

From being treated as Scum by all nobles around him (the Princess included), to losing almost at all encounters (with the one duel against a noble he miraculously won, the Noble accusing HIM of cheating and said duel being overruled)...

Don't recall the actual ending, but apparently the Author ADORED the princess and she was railroaded (if I recall. It's been years) into being with us and... I forgot the rest.

Tl;Dr: quest related PTSD still itches at my scalp, even when I forgot most things around said quest.

Me like, and into my library you go YEET.

So the MC sounds like a sociopath oh well functioning one but still a sociopath from the way he's just accepting things so easily in the first chapter. Not in bad way but still........ Or he's in a constant mindset in comparison to someone high on marijuana :D

Chapter 3
Chapter 3
"Tomorrow's the day, Magnus."

It's been 20 years since he was reincarnated into this world and living as a kid a second time was a new experience. Especially when your parents are centuries-old devils, his mother being 638 years old and his father being 492 years old. Despite their age, in a race with extremely long lives, devil society considers them to be young adults in their mid-20s.

When Magnus realized that there were some devils out there who were over two thousand years old, it led to certain consequences.

He was already a bit of a slacker in his previous life. Not to the point that he was considered lazy, but to the point where he would do the bare minimum.

Being centuries-old had led to his parents gathering a certain amount of wealth and with the fertility of devils being so low, Magnus' parents had no problem spoiling him a little… ok it was a lot. Because of this, he lived a slow life for the first 12 years of his new life without care. Magnus still trained with the inheritance he got from Reid, but it was casual, as in go-to-the-gym-on-weekends-for-an-hour casual.

Then he heard his parents talking about how Lord Sitri, their employer, was going to double the number of guards around his heir Serafall Sitri.

It was at that point he came to the startling realization that the Devil Civil War had yet to happen. It's not that he didn't know he was in the past, the lack of technology made it obvious. But because his parents were the guards of someone of importance, they lived in an area where those around them were in the same occupation. And because of their occupation, many of them did not gossip lest they accidentally reveal something important and get in trouble because of it. This also was not the age of information that Magnus was used to, so he had no way of getting an intake of information stably.

Additionally, his parents didn't treat him differently because of his low magical talent. In hindsight, he underestimated how much devils cared about their kids due to the low fertility.

It was only after that moment of enlightenment did Magnus conclude that he needed to shift his ass into gear. The next day he fully delved into Reid's inheritance with the intent to, at the very least, live through the upcoming civil war.

It wasn't easy at first, especially with the fact that he was a bit of a slacker. It took Magnus three years before he had developed some form of discipline through repetition, his newfound talent with the sword a lot. His training habits had eventually beaten the slacker out of him after another two years. Magnus still had an easy-going personality despite everything, he just didn't procrastinate and slack off like he used to.

Now after eight years of training his ass off, Magnus realized that he still had a long way to before being able to reach Reid's level. It's not that his training speed is slow, again his sword talent helped a lot here, but it's that Magnus lacks a lot of experience. The era when Reid was alive was even more chaotic than the already chaotic canon timeline of Re: Zero. In contrast, Magnus has only trained on his own, occasionally killed a beast in the nearby forests, and sparred with his parents now and then. Though he had to work a little harder when it came to the martial arts portion of his training. He couldn't do something crazy like transferring force as Reid did, but he liked to think that he was pretty good at fighting without a sword.

Therein lies another problem, after eight years, Magnus has no idea how strong he is. His only comparison was the beasts in the forest and his parents who didn't go all out in their spars. Though he figured he would find out eventually.

Then there was the summoning Magnus received from Lord Sitri to come to the Sitri estate tomorrow that his father told him about. Magnus already knew he wasn't going to be meeting Serafall since his mother was currently on duty and she had told him how she would be guarding Serafall on her trip to a small party she had to attend as heiress.

And so, Magnus fell asleep thinking about what Lord Sitri could want from him.

Edwin Sitri had seen a lot.

It was to be expected from a man who had been born during the Great War and even participated in it towards the end. He had fought against the messengers of the He Who Brings Forth Headaches and the watchers who fell. With Azazel being the one in charge of the Grigori, you tend to see a lot of strange contraptions born from an equally strange mind. He had seen Gabriel tear through the Ultimate-Classes that tried to bring her down. Of course, Edwin only observed from a distance, he wasn't qualified to participate in that fight. And so, like all long-lived and experienced beings, he too was interested in new things and anomalies, non-threatening ones of course.

This generation was filled with anomalies, his daughter being one of them. Learning about another devil that was talented and how they would reach Ultimate-Class was somewhat uninteresting, especially when considering that most of it was just pointless bragging done by parents or foolish followers who simply said what the other party wanted to hear. At this point, those kinds of information had to be taken with a pinch of salt.

However, the recent generation was different. The Gremory and Astaroth heirs were born with extraordinary amounts of power, it was to the point that as newborns they started to float with how much magical power they were outputting. Frankly, if Venelana hadn't activated her Power of Destruction, young Sirzechs might have obliterated everyone in that room as a newborn.

Then there was the Glasya-Labolas heir who was quickly becoming a force of his own with his Absolute Defense. Finally, there was Serafall, originally the Sitri Clan Trait was a high-level control of water magic that allowed for greater manipulation than normal, such as using water magic to assist in the process of healing. However, Serafall's clan trait took it even further and allowed her to use ice magic to an extreme level. The Satan Clans remained disbelieving that they may be outclassed in the future by four 'servants.' He had a feeling that such thinking might come back to bite them consequently.

Now, as Edwin watched the young devil of the Astrea family using a wooden training sword to push back an older and more experienced devil back with nothing but strength and skill easily, he realized that he and the other Clan Heads had missed another anomaly.

As he watched on, Edwin realized that the young devil didn't seem to take much pride in his ability.

He turned to face the boy's father Gilbert Astrea, a man who, along with his wife, had served the Sitri Clan faithfully as guards for centuries.

"Does he not understand how strong he is?"

To that, much to Edwin's surprise, Gilbert nodded.

"Yes, milord. My wife and I concluded that Magnus doesn't quite realize how much he pushes us in our spars due to how unskilled he is when it comes to using magic. If he was even slightly more talented in magic, he might have noticed, but unfortunately, he's not. And the beasts he killed fell so quickly that he assumed that it was the beasts who were too weak, not that he was too strong. So, after comparing himself to others, he's not very strong, is likely what he thinks," Gilbert answered.

"And you didn't correct him?"

"Clara thought that it was cute and decided to correct him at a later date."

Edwin chuckled at that.

"Though if you decide to add him to the guard squads, then her fun would be ruined. The only reason Magnus hadn't noticed sooner was that he doesn't interact with others his age, most of those he does interact with are the others in the guard squads, and all of them are at least High-Class. Magnus is quite smart for his age so he would notice, milord."

Edwin nodded at that, but he decided to correct Gilbert on something.

"I don't want him as a guard," he continued upon seeing Gilbert's confused face, "I want him as Serafall's escort."

Gilbert's eyes widened and he quickly bowed.

"It's an honor milord. My wife and I shall educate him on everything he needs to know. May I know when you would like him presentable by?"

"There's no need for education."

"Milord?"

"You said he was smart, correct? Do you think he could learn at the same time as he is acting as an escort?"

"He can. Like I said earlier he is smart for his age, and I don't think that we need to assist him when it comes to combat, he's handled himself well so far and he knows when to come for help. And I don't mean to be rude my lord, but is there a reason that would require Magnus to become an escort quickly?"

"That's good. As for urgency, I want him to be there with Serafall at the upcoming Gathering."

"I see."

The Young Devils Gathering. It was a yearly event held by the Satan Clans where all of the young devils that are of importance are called upon. It is not some form of social gathering to further unite the devil race, rather it is an event where the Descendants clarify that they are the true rulers of Devil Society and how all the others are merely weapons created by Lucifer and Lilith to combat Heaven and the Grigori.

Edwin was worried as this would be Serafall's first time attending. She needed someone she could trust from the Sitri Clan nearby. It was why the parents of young Sirzechs, young Ajuka, and young Falbium were also trying to quickly find their children escorts, but Edwin was sorry to say that they might not make it in time.

Edwin himself was lucky to come across young Magnus. He checks off all of the boxes he had required that were necessary for an escort according to his standards. The icing on the cake was that the boy was about to reach Ultimate-Class.

Yes, the boy who had no idea about his own strength was about to reach Ultimate-Class in what looked like a few months. He is a year older than Serafall when she reached Ultimate-Class, but it didn't matter to Edwin. The boy was after all forging a path that no devil had gone before.

Even if some devils use their bodies to fight, it is more of a Clan Trait that strengthens or a spell that does it, same with the sword. The fact that Magnus was able to get so far without using a Clan Trait or magic is why Edwin had labeled him as an anomaly. Magnus had reached this far using just his body and sword.

That is why while Serafall was at a party he decided to see what Magnus could do with his own eyes after hearing about him from Gilbert and Clara. Though Edwin figured that his daughter might be a tad upset with him as he recently was informed that members of the Leviathan Clan were going to attend as well.

As the young devil had just knocked out his sparring partner, Edwin also finalized his decision.

"Tell your son and wife that he will be assigned as the escort of Serafall the day after she returns from the party she is attending."

For those that don't understand why devils are reacting like this to Magnus using his body and a sword, do remember that Devil Society has yet to be baptized by top-tier Rooks, Knights, and Pawns. Right now strength is still perceived through magic and Clan traits.

For reference to the ages of the youngsters –
Sirzechs – about to turn 17
Ajuka – just turned 17
Serafall – 22
Falbium – about to turn 22
Magnus - 20

Thanks for the chapter.
And you didn't correct him?"

"Clara thought that it was cute and decided to correct him at a later date."

Edwin chuckled at that.
Ffftt... hahahaha... i agree with it.
Hohoo. This is event when the satan descendent say they are more superior than other devil and you are only they tool. I guess its make sense with how situation in underworld now.

What does the MC look like, Reinhardt, Rein or someone else?

Chapter 4
Chapter 4
"What's he like?"

It was what Serafall had asked the mother of her soon-to-be escort as she stood before her father's office.

"Well, in my opinion, he's an absolute cutie who can be a bit silly at times," the blonde replied with a smile.

Serafall's eye twitched at that response. It's not that she didn't like Clara, but the women could be rather aggravating. Clara tended to involve Serafall, voluntary or not, in her quest for amusement. One moment she could name was when she was six when she convinced Serafall to dress in a mismatched way, then proceeded to show it to her parents. Thanks to that event, Serafall's parents thought that her sense of fashion was askew, and her mother started to lecture her every day to 'help fix her baby's sense of fashion.'

It brightened her mood a bit when Serafall realized that she was going to meet a fellow sufferer.

When Serafall opened the door, she first saw her father sitting behind his desk, smiling at her, and Gilbert, the husband of Clara, standing behind her father, giving her a polite bow when she entered. Then there was the third male in the room.

Like Gilbert and most others in the Sitri territory, he had jet black hair that he kept short. His eyes were purple like his mother's, in honesty, Clara was one of the more visually unique devils in the Sitri territory. He was also taller than her and stood at what looked like 5'10". With how unique devils tended to look, he was rather plain except for the fact that he resembled the fallen a little.

"Seeing as everyone is here, let's get this over with," her father gathered everyone's attention.

"Sera, this is Magnus Astrea. From this day forth he will stay by your side as your escort. Magnus this is my daughter Serafall, please take care of her."

Magnus nodded at her father and turned to her.

"Hello Lady Serafall, it will be my pleasure to be your escort," Magnus said with a polite smile and a slight bow.

She too gave a polite smile.

"It will be my pleasure as well."

"Well then, you two should head out for a walk and get further acquainted while I and Magnus' parents talk about where to go from here."

Serafall and Magnus both nodded and left the office.

Magnus hadn't read very far into DxD, so he didn't know if Lord Sitri eventually made an appearance. So for Magnus, the lady walking beside him was the first 'canon character' that he had met so far.

"I hear that you prefer to use sword over magic?"

"Yes, Lady-"

"Call me Sera or Serafall if you must. We're going to be with each other for a long time, so there is no need to be so formal all the time," she said with a smile.

Ah, there's the side of her that introduced herself as Levia-tan to Issei in the future.

"Sure, thing Serafall. But yes, I'd rather use a sword than magic."

"How strong are you?"

"According to my father, I'm at the peak of High-Class and I will be an Ultimate-Class soon," his father had told him how strong he was yesterday, and boy was Magnus surprised. He never noticed how much he was pushing my parents due to his lack of skill in magic. It was a rather embarrassing moment for Magnus, and it made him determined to study magic a little bit more, even if he couldn't use it, he should at least be able to identify certain magics.

When Magnus asked why he didn't tell him earlier, the response made his eye twitch.

"Your mother thought it was cute and wanted to see how long it take you to figure it out while being there to see your face when you did."

"Really? Your magic doesn't feel that strong at all, it feels like it's somewhere in Middle-Class."

He nodded at that, "My magic is indeed low, but my physical strength and sword skills make up for it."

"Can I see for myself?"

"Sure, how do you want to do it?"

"Well, I'm in Ultimate-Class, so if we fought you would be able to go all out! Let's go to the training field!"

Magnus could tell that Serafall was progressively getting more excited as the conversation went on, so he decided to follow her to the training field. Though, he could tell that she was going into this fight with the mentality of fighting another magic-user. Just like if correctly in the right circumstances, magic could be deadly to non-magic users, even if the magic users were weaker. The same situation applies to sword users, if Magnus attacks at the right time, then he could end up doing some serious damage to her.

It was after coming to that conclusion, did he realize that she was still Serafall Sitri, not Satan Serafall Leviathan who had centuries of experience. He also realized that because she was still inexperienced, he had a chance of winning despite being weaker. And while Serafall is different from most devils, she was still part of a race that appreciated the strength of a person, and a victory would bring a good first impression on his part.

Now he was even more motivated to give it his all.

He paused for a second.

"Give it my all, huh?"

He had a small smile on his face when he realized that he come a long way from the guy who just did the bare minimum.

"Yeah, let's do just that. Get ready Serafall, I'm about to show you a fraction of the might of someone who was one of the strongest beings in another world."

Serafall watched as her sparring partner stood on the other side of the field with a steel longsword in his right hand.

She used her ice magic to make a small object in the shape of a coin and held it up.

"When this hits the ground, we start!" She shouted from her end and could see him.

While she didn't need to shout due to their senses as devils being enhanced, she was too excited not to; after all, this was a new type of opponent that she had yet to face! She flicked the coin into the air and got ready to cast spells as soon as it landed.

"I'll start with-"

BOOM

The loud sound caused her to shut her eyes and before she could flinch, she stopped herself. Why? Because she could feel something cold on her neck. And when she opened her eyes, Serafall could see the grinning face of her escort holding the point of the longsword to her neck.

"What-"

"I do believe that this is my victory, Serafall," Magnus said as he pulled his sword away from her neck and backed away.

It was only after that did Serafall regain her composure.

"I've never been in a fight like that."

He moved too fast. Serafall couldn't even track him.

"Is this what it means to fight with your body?"

She had been in a few skirmishes with the fallen and angels, and the both of them fought the same way as did devils did, with magic. A fight like this where one fought with their body was completely new to her.

Then, she realized something.

"Do humans fight the same way?"

Humans did not have the magical advantage that many of the other supernatural races had. That was why magical contracts with mages had been emphasized in her education.

"But I've never fought against humans who are strong with a sword."

Exorcists would sometimes show up in the skirmishes with the angels, but none of them were any good with the sword.

She had told herself that no one underestimated sword users after Arthur and Excalibur when she was talking with Sirzechs at the party, but now Serafall realized that even if she didn't underestimate them, she still had no experience facing them.

It was a worrying thought that she might have died had Magnus been an enemy. It would be disastrous for her if a human who knew how to use one of the holy swords the Church provided to its full potential appeared in one of her future fights. Doubly so if the Satan Descendants are still planning on restarting the Great War.

"But the chance to get some more experience with that type of fighting is right in front of me, isn't it?"

Yes, if she sparred with him regularly, then she would know how to handle a fight with a skilled sword user. That's not to say that Serafall would automatically be able to defeat any sword user easily, but it did give her experience, and it would give Magnus the experience of fighting a magic user.

Little did Serafall know, that in the future when Magnus would become one of the strongest sword users, other sword users were, in fact, easy to deal with compared to the spars the two would have. But that story is for another day.

So, with her mind made up, she grinned at him.

"Want to fight again?"

She got a grin in return before he charged at her again.

"Yeah, the two of us are going to get along great."

If Serafall seems a bit lackluster to you, it's because she is. Right now, she's just a young woman in her early 20s who has never fought against a skilled sword user. For reference, Arthurian legends were said to have occurred around the 5th century. Currently, Magnus and Co. are in the mid-1400s. And Serafall's father won't put her in a situation that will kill her, so either by the era she was born in or by the meddling of her father, Serafall has yet to meet a strong sword user like Magnus.

I can just see Sera pull off the infamous Blade Catch on any other sword users.
Depending on how weak they are, depends on how many fingers she uses. XD

Edit:
Another great chapter. Magic is cool and all, but using only a sword to defeat gods is just bad ass.
Reminds me of Salavtore Dani.
