The Great Migration [Backrooms]

It has been five years since the Backrooms were confirmed to exist.

Since footage of missing people filming themselves in places with WiFi connections like Level 1, 11, the Snackrooms, and other "Safe" locations began ending up on the internet after that infamous 4Chan post. Communication between the back and the front of reality was possible, but not physical movement. We're still not sure how it works.

Initially dismissed as fakes, the details eventually could not be denied.

The people in these video's looked, sounded, and acted like the missing people according to those who knew them. They answered questions only they could know. Sometimes they would enter more dangerous levels and come back with footage and post it online. Some of these Backrooms posters are still alive to this day, staying in the safe levels and keeping daily updates. Some would travel further to find a way out, or to reach sanctuaries such as the rumored Crimson Forest. Usually, they would either never update again or a grim-faced soldier of the MEG would make a video informing the outside world of recent confirmed deaths. Sometimes there would be a new update in gaps measuring months or years where that specific wanderer would be revealed to still be alive.

Footage of entity attacks would be commonly shared by wanderers running through the more dangerous levels. Levels with tame entities such as 11 and Snackrooms would allow for close up looks.

At the same time, disappearances became more common. Surveillance footage would show people straight up falling through floors or clipping through walls they were leaning on. Sometimes they would only know after it happened from the footage, sometimes it would happen in front of large groups of people. At first it was outdoors, but then it increasingly began happening inside buildings with lots of people to witness it, such as schools, museums, police stations, and military bases.

When one politician tried to calm the public and clipped through the floor on live tv, people started to panic.

When the White House was quarantined after multiple disappearances and men in yellow hazmat suits began entering and not coming out, the world lost its shit.

Half the world was afraid of the Backrooms and the possibility that they could fall in at any time, or that something dangerous might find its way into our world through noclipping.

The other half's reaction was something entirely different.

You can find them in corners, sidewalks, alleyways, abandoned buildings, or in the wilderness. All in spaces where people were known or rumoured to have noclipped. Sometimes alone, sometimes entire camps of people. All with the same goal: Immigrating to the Backrooms.

Some only had the clothes on their back. Others had done a lot to prepare, carrying everything from food, water, tents, sleeping bags, first aid kits, and gas masks to guns that ranged from small pistols to automatic rifles to even a rocket launcher every once in a while. Some wore camouflage hunting jackets and pants, others wore armored tactical gear all over their bodies.

Scared the hell out of many people when the armored rifle toting types first showed up in public, causing several near shootings with the police. Several actual shootings. Since then, the armed types tend to carry around signs or have their stuff in duffel bags to avoid scaring people. Others search for rumors of more distant glitched spaces in the wild to avoid public scrutiny.

They can be spotted trying to cautiously step around in known locations where noclipping incidents have occurred or are rumored to have occurred. If that doesn't work, they might press themselves to the ground or floors, against walls or even ceilings to find the exact spots where those before them fell into the Backrooms. Some used canes or melee weapons to poke the ground in front of them like a minesweeper so that they could figure out the best place to fall.

It was a movement that started in Detroit or Chicago then spread to other big cities like New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo, London, and Moscow. Then it became a massive movement with no clear central leadership, just legions of desperate people looking for a new life. Some countries are starting to make laws against it, but they can't get everyone.

There are hundreds in my city alone. I've talked to some of these people on streets, under bridges, alleys, and abandoned buildings, asking them why they want to immigrate. For those willing to talk to me, here were the most common reasons:

-Trying to leave an abusive home or situation.

-Trying to avoid paying a debt, usually student loans.

-To live forever since people trapped in the Backrooms seem to age very slowly or not at all.

I wonder how children or babies are affected by this.

-Escaping persecution by those who would harm them over their religious, ethnic, or sexual orientation. Most common in third world countries but sadly becoming increasingly more common in my homeland every week.

-To avoid having to pay taxes.

-Lost their job and don't want to admit to their family.

-To be able to kill without any legal hassle.

-Wanting a more exciting life while not having to pay taxes or rent or other parts of modern life. Goes hand in hand with those who can't find employment and those in debts they can't pay.

-To personally research the Backrooms. These people were hoping to join MEG.

-Nature lovers wanting to reach the CF or Level 300.

-To reach the fabled Poolrooms of Level 37 and essentially relax forever.

-To reach a level rumored to contain an infinite library and essentially read forever or flirt with the cute librarian rumored to live there. No idea if this is an actual level or just a fantasy, but it certainly doesn't stop some people from wanting to try.

-They feel that since noclipping incidents are becoming so common, they might as well leave now on their own terms instead of falling in totally unprepared.

-To reach the most desirable locations, from the confirmed such as 11 and the Snackrooms or the rumored paradises of the CF and PL, places that some people would consider better then real life.

-Escaping justice after committing a crime or being accused of a crime. Most people who said this were firmly insistent that they were innocent.

-Chasing a fugitive who had harmed a friend or family member and then escaped into the Backrooms to avoid justice. Once met an entire group of former cops and soldiers who had quit and pooled their money to become a "Backrooms Fugitive Pursuit Squad." Never heard from those guys again, so I'm not sure if they entered the Backrooms and got lost or eaten, or if they gave the whole thing up or got arrested for standing around with guns and body armor.

-Finding a family member, friend, lover, or pet who got lost in the Backrooms. These were pretty much the most common of all the answers. I wish these people luck.

There were tons of other reasons, close to a hundred or more, I think. I don't try to talk them down, I just listen.

And more people try it every day. Some are still awkwardly bumping against concrete because someone might have noclipped there a week ago, some were arrested for being disruptive in public, and some disappeared without a trace.

But occasionally, someone sends an update from Level 1 or 11 or another safe area, usually looking tired but satisfied while assuring everyone outside that "I'm safe." or some variation. Others were utterly terrified, begging people not to follow them. Some of these immigrants are the people I was talking to.

Some of them noclipped in front of me mid-conversation, others fell in the background while I was talking to another person.

Noclipping is becoming more common, and as long as it is possible, people will keep trying.

I know, because I'm one of them.

I've spent years packing canned food, a mix of heavy and light clothing, blades, rope, duffel bags, backpacks, canteens, LifeStraw's, and other tools for survival. Quit my job and cashed out 12K from my 401K savings. Printed out lists of the most desirable levels and how to get to them. Not sure if I'll get far or get eaten by one of those hound things or God forbid, the partyfuckers, less then 10 seconds into Level 0.

By the time I publish this, I'll be heading to a place where people have successfully noclipped using the walls. I know because I saw an entire group go into it. Not sure if I'll reach it before the government, I've heard they've been locking these places down and surrounding them with armed soldiers in hazmat gear. But I've got to try.

I'm far from being a walking armory or a roided out juggernaut, but when this fucking economy makes living in eldritch monster land look preferable, you know society is fucked.
