When Taylor makes a new friend at Winslow, it may not be as good a thing as it seems ...

Especially when (and sometimes it doesn't even require this) someone's being bullied as hard as Taylor is.Sadly, this sort of recruitment can and does work.
I look forward to seeing how this goes. Another fic of Ack's to watch!
Depends. She might not even remember. After all, she simply said "That didn't happen," and then Blackwell got into her face over the others.Looks like an interesting start, I am curious as to what will happen when Taylor remembers that the one person accused which didn't bully her was not white.
"let me know.""Okay," he offered. "Tell you what. Take this phone, and think about it. When you make your decision, let me go." He held out an inexpensive-looking cellphone, along with the charge cord.
Whoops. Fixed.
A shitstorm is coming down the pike. The splatter radius will be far and wide.*edit (now that I've finished the chapter)-
When it comes out that a third party put in the allegations (and Peter WILL be coming forth as the one who reported it, because that'll be how he proves the 'protection' of the E88 can actually do anything in Winslow), and Blackwell tore them up while acting like that, a MAJOR shitstorm will erupt. Especially when the PRT hears about it, and Sophia's role (though I almost guarantee little more than a slap on the wrist... at first). Whatever the result, Blackwell just lost her job.
The letting the accused verify the handwriting of the accuser bit, and not even trying to verify it... That's just the final nail in a wooden coffin that's now more nails than wood...
Methinks the media may even get involved.
Honestly, E88's got Taylor hook, line, and sinker; Peter coming out as the accuser is simply the logical, and best, way to reel her in.
Personally, I see it happening with Peter asking Blackwell, loudly and in front of a crowd that includes Taylor, "What's been done about all of those bullying reports I filled the other day, because frankly, the bullying problem is getting worse."
I think that Danny just runs employment/assignment, and that there is an unnamed someone who is the actual head of the Dockworker's Union, though that is still a powerful position."Yes sir, I think it is. Her father runs the Dockworkers; if she becomes a member, she can influence him. Through her, we could have an in."
I believe that Danny is the chairman.I think that Danny just runs employment/assignment, and that there is an unnamed someone who is the actual head of the Dockworker's Union, though that is still a powerful position.
I thought he was the HR manager.I believe that Danny is the chairman.
And having influence as to who gets hired and fired ... yeah.
So yeah; he's an important person and has a lot of unofficial power, but he's not the boss.Worm Cast Page said:Danny Hebert – Taylor's dad. A single father, he worked at the Dockworkers association, as head of hiring and Union spokesperson.
There's probably an in-canon reason. Maybe because there was no-one there to actually homeschool her.Homeschooling just requires a notice in most states. He should have pulled her from Winslow and had her study at home until a spot opened. Sending her back is what makes him a dumbass.
Also, the conversation with Blackwell has been rewritten a bit.
Well, I missed v2, but in v3 seems like Blackwell actually knows her job could be on the line from this. She may keep her job yet.... Right up until the PRT (excluding Sophia's handler) learns that their probational Ward had reports (of ANY type) filed against her, and they got torn up in front of the suspected filer, rather than passed on. Yea, her job's still shot. Oh, and telling the accused that they were accused, and who their suspected accuser was, BEFORE investigating anything... That's how people die during sloppy police investigations after all.Blackwell confrontation rewritten. Again. For the last damn time.
Homeschooling requires very little, it's true, but the minimum requirements are notice and a tutor (that tutor can be the parent, but rarely is). You can not homeschool unsupervised. There's probably an in-canon reason. Maybe because there was no-one there to actually homeschool her.
At the start of Worm, Taylor is how old? wasn't it like 15?He holds 'class' in the evening after work. There are ways. Under no circumstances should he have sent her back. Especially when they got away with it. Sadly, Worm don't give a fuck.
The only explanation I can come up with is that Because Plot, or Danny doesn't actually care and is just going through the motions.
So yeah, Because Plot.
Someone needs to write this.I'm kinda wanting a story where Danny becomes excessively frustrated at being stonewalled every step of the way until he eventually starts usinglegbreakersdockworkers to get his own brand of revenge against the school. He has a phonebook to find out where the school staff lives, plus there are plenty of ways to destroy the facilities to the point where closing the school and paying to send the students elsewhere would be cheaper than fixing everything.
The PRT/P would be looking for the new parahuman gang leader with a grudge against Winslow while ignoring the mundane explanations behind it.
This could also involve Taylor in a role similar to Mafia Princess where all the dockworkers like her and are more than willing to get revenge on her behalf for free.
A Truancy Officer doing their job. In the Docks section of Brockton Bay, a warzone neighbourhood in a blasted hellhole of a city where the authorities can't keep up with the murder rate, mount a real effort to wrest control of the streets back from the three gangs that run them like occupying armies, or even do much more than sweep up after the cape fights. At the start of Worm, Taylor is how old? wasn't it like 15?
As a 15 year old, go out around 1PM and walk around town,. before long a thing called a Truancy Officer will come and ask why your not in school. Tell them you're home-schooled and see what they say (hint, it'll involve driving the kid to their house to talk with the parent, if the parent can't be reached, the kid is setup temporarily at the local public school, and CPS will be contacted).
As a parent, leave a 15 year old child home alone for the majority of the day and CPS will take the child away from you. Danny can't take Taylor to work with him, can't get Taylor transferred to another public school, can't afford a private school, and can't leave Taylor home alone. So yes, Danny's ONLY legal option was to keep sending Taylor to school.
Honestly, the most unbelievable fact of that whole situation was the school board (above Blackwell's head) didn't fast-track a transfer to another school.Someone needs to write this.
It's your idea, get started.
Well, to be honest, when Taylor started skipping, no-one really noticed.A Truancy Officer doing their job. Any truancy or CPS officer who tried to do their job that energetically in BB would get brutally murdered long before they managed to pick up even a single kid who wagged school.
A kid from an upscale neighbourhood, or who skipped classes at a high-tone school like Arcadia? Every chance they'd get chased up, because they 'matter'. But a kid from a shithole school like Winslow who lives in a slum like the Docks? AFAICT, the Winslow administration has actively refused to give even a single fuck about any student not named Sophia Hess even when they showed up; I doubt they'd start if one of them simply didn't show.
Wrong, actually. You can leave a 15 year old alone unsupervised, just not overnight for more than two days.As a 15 year old, go out around 1PM and walk around town,. before long a thing called a Truancy Officer will come and ask why your not in school. Must differ depending on State.Wrong, actually. You can leave a 15 year old alone unsupervised, just not overnight for more than two days.
I think you're overselling the crap factor of pre-Levi Brockton Bay. It was bad but no worse than any other major city.A Truancy Officer doing their job.
