• The site has now migrated to Xenforo 2. If you see any issues with the forum operation, please post them in the feedback thread.
  • An addendum to Rule 3 regarding fan-translated works of things such as Web Novels has been made. Please see here for details.
  • Due to issues with external spam filters, QQ is currently unable to send any mail to Microsoft E-mail addresses. This includes any account at live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com. Signing up to the forum with one of these addresses will result in your verification E-mail never arriving. For best results, please use a different E-mail provider for your QQ address.
  • For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.
  • Since it has happened MULTIPLE times now, I want to be very clear about this. You do not get to abandon an account and create a new one. You do not get to pass an account to someone else and create a new one. If you do so anyway, you will be banned for creating sockpuppets.
  • Due to the actions of particularly persistent spammers and trolls, we will be banning disposable email addresses from today onward.
  • The rules regarding NSFW links have been updated. See here for details.

Lately I noticed a trend flooding the nsfw creative writing section. Where people are posting their translations of novels. All of them basically without NSFW content to begin with. Only posted in the section because its the most active.

I held my tongue about this since when I first checked, the earliest one is like a few years ago and the mods either don't know or everything is fine. But it kinda annoys me so I have to ask.

Are they allowed on this site? I mean fantranslations are basically a legal grey area on copyright where things can go nasty especially since these translations tend to come with a patron attached to them, or be fine and all good.

Or should I start reporting all the translated stories that don't have permission from the authors to be hosted on a porn site, or translated in the first place?

Probably no point in bringing up the NSFW thing again, mods have mentioned awareness of it in the past - though I agree that these translations are fully SFW.

To your other point, I think fantranslations are seen as copyright violations in the US. If I understand the basics of copyright law, they're derivative without being transformative. The language they're in changes, but nothing about the meaning or expression is fundamentally changed so it shouldn't fall under fair use without author permission. So yeah, if you think the translators of the xianxia fictions and whatnot don't have permission, you could probably have a basis for reporting them to mods. Keep in mind even if there is copyright violation it may not be illegal (needs intent and a commercial profit threshold), so Rule 3 might not help.

I can say that from the view of the staff, fan translations are fine.

As is posting entirely SFW stuff in the NSFW area, because the test we use is that SFW areas must have no NSFW material. There is no equivalent check for the NSFW areas.

Kay.

I'll just block the guy that has like 50 of them, no harm done. Was mainly worried about any potential legal issues. I like the site after all, don't want people bringing it trouble.
