Cornered in the security office, my breathing turned erratic, my chest heaving with panic. Tears welled in my eyes, blurring the sterile glow of the room's overhead lights. Desperation clawed at my throat, and I did what anyone in my position would have done: I started crying.

"I'm sorry," I whimpered, choking on the words. My trembling hand wiped at the tears, but the motion split the skin at the corners of my mouth. The flesh tore upward in jagged streaks, ripping all the way to my ears. Pain flared but quickly dulled, replaced by the familiar sickening heat of transformation. Through a raw, bloody grin, I whispered, "It's you or me…"

Pink stood frozen, her gloved hand reaching instinctively toward her holstered stun gun. Her visor reflected my grotesque smile as her lips parted to scream. "Wait-!"

She didn't get another word out before my tongue shot from the gaping maw of my face. It wasn't a tongue anymore—not really. The slick, sinewy appendage bristled with barbed edges, gleaming with a dark, venomous sheen. It whipped through the air with impossible speed, puncturing the soft fabric of her pink spacesuit. Her chest caved inward with a sickening crunch as the spear-like tongue tore into her heart.

Her body convulsed, blood spurting in thick, arterial bursts as I plunged deeper, shredding her insides. Organs ruptured and collapsed in wet explosions of gore. My tongue slithered greedily through her chest cavity, consuming everything in its path—lungs, liver, stomach—until the suit was little more than a pink-stained husk clinging to her twitching corpse.

Her arm jerked, her fingers fumbling toward the emergency rescue button on her wrist. I couldn't let her press it. My hand, no longer human in shape or strength, clamped around hers. Flesh met flesh with a nauseating squelch, my claws sinking into her suit and breaking skin. Even as her guts sloshed out of the jagged hole in her chest, she struggled weakly. But I had the strength of something far beyond human now. Her wrist cracked under the pressure of my grip, the bones snapping like twigs. The light in her eyes dimmed, and her hand went limp.

I let her body drop to the floor with a dull thud, my tongue retracting with a wet hiss. The security office stank of iron and bile, and the warmth of her blood soaked through the soles of my boots. I crouched, my fingers slick with her viscera, and shoved her corpse under the desk. Her rolling chair caught on her limp leg, and I shoved harder until her body crumpled further into the shadows.

The door beeped. Someone outside.

Straightening quickly, I forced the jagged tears in my face to knit back together. My jaw realigned with a sickening pop as the last vestiges of my transformation faded. When the door slid open, Brown walked in, a steaming mug of coffee in hand. His face lit up with casual recognition. "Oh, Blue. I didn't expect you to be here. Where's Pink?"

"She said she had to use the restroom," I replied, forcing a smile despite the coppery tang of blood still clinging to my teeth. "She just left. I can take a message if you want."

Brown frowned slightly and set his mug on the desk, leaning over to peer at the camera feeds. "Dang," he muttered, tilting his head. "Do you think she like-"

Before he could finish, my tongue lashed out again, this time slicing clean through his left eye. His words turned into a gurgled gasp as the appendage punched through his skull, splintering bone and scrambling the soft mass of his brain. Blood and gray matter oozed from the wound as his body crumpled to the floor.

I stood over him, grimacing at the acrid stench of his spilled fluids. He wasn't as satisfying as Pink, but I couldn't risk him finding her body. No loose ends.

The ship's silence felt oppressive now. Just three crew members left. They didn't deserve this—I didn't want to hurt them—but they'd figure it out sooner or later. They'd ask questions I couldn't answer. They'd try to stop me. I didn't have a choice anymore.

I glanced at the camera feeds again, spotting Green walking down the hallway, his footsteps unhurried, oblivious. An idea sparked. I waited until he passed the security office, then wrenched the door open and grabbed him by the neck. His startled yelp turned into a wet gurgle as I twisted sharply. The sound of his vertebrae snapping echoed in the narrow hall, a grotesque symphony of bone and sinew. His body sagged in my grip, the last shudders of life draining away.

His admin card dangled from his belt. I ripped it free and swiped it against the control panel, plunging the ship into darkness. Emergency lights flickered weakly, casting long, distorted shadows on the walls.

Two left. Somewhere in the dark corridors, they were waiting—waiting for answers, for salvation. They wouldn't find either.

It was time to hunt.
