It seems there is a lot of fics based on cyoa or world jumping where the author stops due to reaching a level of power leveling on the MC either due to personal power or waifus. Most likely finish with certain high power level worlds then looked at others and don't know how to write the MC in those worlds that logically shouldn't be a threat to MC due to the world power level without dumbing the MC, nerfing the MC for plot or including third party factors like suddenly another world Jumping rival appears, some non-canon made up enemy or something else that just makes it annoying.
Easy thing to do is work out which worlds you want in your fic before you start it, work out their min to max power level and what you would want your MC to gain out of each world at the end that would affect their own power level. This will allow for you to set up the list of worlds you want from weakest to strongest based on your MC power level.
There is one more thing that would help prevent walling yourself, it to not only make the MC do this just for the power. It clear that MC need to have some desire for power since ending up in 40k with the power of a modern day soldier would freak almost anyone when thinking of such a possibility. So it reasonably for most MC to have at least a secondary desire for more power just for survival or to do whatever they want.
This brings to another purpose that can be given to world jumping MC's that is control, more in the sense that your MC could be driven to complete something that has no purpose for their personal power or gain anything in a world. MC could just for mere amusement or self satisfaction go to a world that is much lower power level that clearly to the readers isn't a threat to the MC but might be a challenge or not. For the MC to decide to complete a challenge that the MC decided for themselves based on the world with limits to make it amusing to the MC to see if they can pull it off.
For example your MC could at this point be unbeatable in DC world with no threat of life or capture, knowing this the MC decides to take a vacation from the life struggles of past world to do the challenge of forcing Batman to willingly kill someone without any methods that would allow Batman to use a clutch for his actions like mind control or you physically forcing him to kill someone. This would be interesting to the readers on how the MC would do that based on his abilities and attitude, would he be clever mastermind that sets up hundreds of steps that lead to this happening, subtle or crude. What is the fall out that happens from batman willingly killing someone, being different based on who, why, where and etc.
Author could have the MC fail to succeed these challenges on the low power worlds to show how even with the MC with all their powers try to win within their own self set rules. That batman will stick to his stubborn will and moral, written to be an inspiring moment to high light some concept. This will make the readers wonder with each challenge if MC will win or lose, no need to find a way to put the MC in a life threatening situation when it logically shouldn't be possible with MC powers, abilities and past experience/attitude. No need to dumb down the MC or nerf for plot to force some kind of life threatening impact.
The author could make the MC have a stubborn will to keeping with their own set rules of each exact challenge, refusing to break them even if MC can see that they will lose the challenge and will accept it and move on to next world. Author could also make the MC devious with breaking the rules on some challenges and not on others due on a personal code or just flippy based on the actual attitude of MC. Maybe the MC won't accept the lost of a challenge and go on a murderous rampage or destroy the world before jumping to the next. This allows for more interesting developments in world jumping fics.
The challenges could be good such as trying to win some war in a lower power level world without a single lost of any main characters or locations. Curing world hunger with just tech powers or with just politic focus powers. Could be evil challenges such as making batman kill someone, manipulating one race like elves into genocide. Could even be some silly challenge like trying to shame superman to change his hero outfit or setting up plans that leads to every villain in Worm world with a tattoo on their face of something silly without using mind powers or other rules. The author writing how MC plan is set up, the steps MC took, how it all acted out then the fall out of villains like jack slash or Lung getting silly tattoos on their faces and other villains starting to fear it happening to them and the one doing it. Could be subtle like slipping sleeping pills under disguise to Skidmark then tattooing him when asleep, could be setting up an organization of mundane people just for the sole purpose to succeed at tattooing all the villains or brutal crude using some of MC powers to force it on the villains after a fight that isn't a threat to the MC but still interesting in it own way.
These lower power challenge worlds could be set in between the jumps of worlds that you plan for the MC to get a power boost/improvement by the end of those worlds. Author can decide to give MC anything lasting out of those lower power challenge worlds or not, there is no need for the MC to improve in any way since MC wasn't in any dire threat to force the MC to improve.
I hope these ideas would help keep more world jumping fics alive and interesting.
