  • It's weird that the wuxia setting would use something so seemingly benign as "flower picker" to describe what is basically "rapist".
You'd think he's just some nobody named Tie Muzhen, but maybe he's actually some somebody named Chengjisi Han, or maybe even an important person named Chinggis Khagan, or there's a chance he is a very important person named Dayuan Taizu Shengwu Huangdi, but he's definitely not some random face in the crowd if he has a name like Genghis Khan.

So it's kind of inconsistent. Like in some periods, it's illegal for business people/traders to wear silk, and sometimes it's illegal for any not of the immediate royal family to own yellow silk clothes, and then sometimes, no one gives a shit.

So for some reason the Navagraha Rahu becomes "Demonic Dao Ancestor Luohou" wtf? Honghuang setting is so sinocentric, but when you peel the layers off, like 90% of the setting is actually characters from outside of China
Someone did a Honghuang-styled Greek Mythology and it's pretty good; protagonist is a soft, fragrant, weak, and easy to push down loli goddess named Hebe too. Bit much on the cultivator stuff, but it's alright.

After reading a few of these, I find that they have a sort of cultivation power ranks but it's vague, and I'd rather not use the direct translation names for each rank.

So I think I'll call them; Lesser God -> God -> Greater God -> Pantheonic God -> Primordial God
If you think about it, Jiraiya is incompetent. He has access to the old toad, and yet, he doesn't know anything about the history of the ninja world. He pursues world peace, but he doesn't know where the origin of chakra and conflict came from. So he's just an irresponsible, incompetent idealist, and if he wasn't the protagonist's teacher, he'd be a joke and a clown.
"The Miracle Doctor Comes Down the Mountain as the Dragon King Wolf Warrior who Returns to the City to be a Domineering Son-in-Law Recovers His Reincarnated Memories as the Immortal Emperor After Signing in to the Shenhao System with his Seven Sisters...

My name is Uchiha Madara. I'm 90 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Sangaku no Hakaba, where all the tunnels are, and I am not married. After having a glass of warm milk and plotting world peace for 20 minutes, I never have problems sleeping. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get 8 hours of sleep. Just like a baby, I wake up every morning... ready to dance. I am the Ninja Dance King.
What's interesting is that in Honghuang setting, the Demonic Dao Ancestor Luohou, you know, opposite of the Dao Ancestor Hongjun, is most famous for his "Killing Spear" that can kill anything forever the moment it's used before it strikes, and I'm thinking did they copy this from Type Moon's E rank Luck mongrel missile dog, because this isn't in Chinese folklore
Historical Gilgamesh probably passed through Mount Mashu, so if you think about it, Gilgamesh NTR Mash from Fujimaru is canon.
    hm

Yakumo Yukari "Seventeen years old bishoujo"
Horaishan Kaguya "Sixteen years old bishoujo"

    hmmm
Read this really hilarious "Ultra Competent Sasuke" story, and there's this one bit where he copies Obito's Kamui, and then kills the Daimyo of Fire and burns down his mansion, and then tells the other daimyos that if they don't play along with Konoha, then "Uchiha Obito might visit you one day", and the actual Obito's like
Feels like we're missing a lot of English resources; can't find any source talking about the Kongtong Seal being the crystallization of Human Luck, like the core of Alaya if it was in Type Moon, and being found in Shouyang Mountain... but it seems to be a common sense thing in Chinese sources?

We're missing a translation of the original Honghuang book, the one that everyone else somewhat references. "Buddha is Dao" by MengShenji.
It feels like authors who get "ambitious", as in trying to weave an "engaging story" with a "massive world" filled with many "alive characters", but forget their original premise, tend to write shit stories. Like this asshole who started off with "Urban Pokemon 'Cut Hu' Type", MC gets an Alpha Totem Magikarp before "hero" could...

...and then he never steals opportunities of that kind ever again.

It just becomes a generic "big Pokemon on Earth" urban plot, and it's awful.

You know, like, even his system cheat gets forgotten about, the supporting or lesser characters that showed up initially practically disappear for the newer characters that the author focuses more on, but they never have the same rawness and charm as the first set.

It's like video game developers that either start doing what other industry specialists say they should do, or the industry trends, or listen to angry people on twitter or wherever, and then they chance the thing that originally drew in their original audience, but the new thing they're making is never as good as the "standard" they're copying from.

It's like a writer changing from writing a personal story for a movie to writing a textbook one, with emphasis on motivations and conflicts or whatever... a "Hollywood" movie. But anyone can weave an impersonal narrative, and you're never going to be as good as the ones who do this all day, but you're ditching the uniqueness of your own writing in pursuit of copying others. So, it becomes shit.

You know how "zhu" is the pronunciation for "orb" and for "pig", so a lot of magical treasures tend to be orbs, right, so this one AI art web novel kept on drawing the characters holding a pig instead of an orb, so you'd see this dude holding a little round pig that's glowing like it's a super saiyan and shiny like a shiny pokemon, and being so happy to have it and everything
There's a saying that Momoshiki and Isshiki arrived so late, in devilspawn Boruto era, because they saw that Emperor Gai was in a wheel chair
They never really showed Otsutsuki Hamura's wife, or Hagoromo's for that matter, but the point is, Hamura went to the moon and made a clan of basically semi-clones. So, what, did he just jerk off on the moon and his semen just turned into eggs that formed the moon Otsutsuki/Hyuugas or something?
Because of the censorship, there's this meme these days, where instead of "fade to black" or the more popular "skipped 10,000 words here", they write instead "I know you don't like this lewd part of the plot, so I'll just read it myself and skip it for you"

and you know, shortening (thus removing filler) and turning web novels into short videos with AI generated pictures depicting the scenes in the background on short video platforms is now really popular, so it gets a lot of people mad when the narrator suddenly says this

Hate it when the author loses the plot and then starts filling filler everywhere; there's this one xianxia story where the MC realizes he's in a Battle Through The Heavens (Doupo) plot where he's about to divorce a girl who lost her talents, he stops this... and then the next two hundred chapters has nothing to do with this girl outside of her leveling up and being thankful to him wtf
    d.fish
    d.fish
And instead it's filled with the most generic bullshit xianxia stuff that has no appeal to the people who came in looking for the "I'm going against the obviously stupid villain plot and gaining benefits from the heroes/heroines" type of story. And the author thinks trying to worldbuild or make antagonists would be better than actually building the main girl, or her circumstances

    So there's this old TV series where an asshole and his future brother-in-law went back in time to Qin Dynasty era, and Liu Bang, founder of Han, sold the brother-in-law to the palace and made him a eunuch, and the asshole protagonist kept trying to "keep history the way it is" despite it hurting brother-in-law more and helping Liu Bang, because "no paradoxes";
