Feel The Ground Shake (Pokemon - Ground-type specialist)

Vishnu..... stop stalling and show us everyones reaction to Ma Ma, My ADHD brain does not like waiting long. 😭😭

Personally, I'm glad that the legendary isn't ground type. If it were, it would really feel like everything was just lining up too perfectly for Brad. But it being off type makes it feel more like a lucky find, and less like an inevitability.

He's had a bond with Ma Ma just fine despite her not being Ground-type until this most recent evolution. Also, would you have preferred I invent a fake Ground-type Regi? That would've gone over like a lead balloon.

Steel, Rock, and Ground all share a small theme as being the ones immune to Sandstorm, so I think it's fine.

It's not a complete anathema to Brad's aura like Regileki or Regice would be.

Fair enough, just curious what your reasoning was. Looking forward to seeing the next chapter.

Let's take a moment to imagine Shadow Grundy...
No, you aren't thinking big enough. Imagine a Shadow Quagsire! A Pokémon that Brad still has trouble thinking about. In previous chapters he talked about trying to name the move quagsire did while drunk with things like apocolypse but it never quite fit. Imagine how destructive something would have to be for our protagonist to not even be able to name it when he has literally seen gods fight in the movies. Now Imagine it as a shadow Pokémon.

How was it harsh? The last words weren't spoken aloud.

He realized that her offer was out of complete, genuine goodwill and acknowledged it may even be better for the Mon.
But shut it down with not a No, not a I Can't, but absolutely not.
Even with the rest of it nonverbalized definitely seems like the tone would've been harsh. Or absolutely brooking no argument.

So I tried Hard Enough while waiting for the next chapter and I'm wondering, will politics play a role or would this be solely a circuit run?

It has touched on politics a bit, but due to the fact that Brad is just a trainer right now politics will stay 2nd hand. If Brad joins the Indigo Elite 4 or something, then yes more politics.

hi i would like to know if you have a discord and if you do can i get a link

I just realised something. Bruno and lance were in both gens. But Lorelei & Agatha are strictly Kanto gym leaders. But Lorelei herself has referred to Lance as her regions champion. So are we erasing Will, Koga & Karen from Johto? Has Blue just not shown up yet?

Is Froslass known here?

I mean, just because he's a Type Specialist doesn't mean he's going to pass up a Legendary (even an admittedly "meh" one, stat-wise). Not like there's a Regidirt (yet, who knows if GameFreak will make new Regis before new Eeveelutions like they did for the random Electric and Dragon in Crown Tundra for some reason).

Regirock might've been thematically/visually close, but Steel's at least got immunities (to a Type he already has an advantage on) and resists one of his main weaknesses (Grass, which he already has a few answers for) among many others. Both are fine in a Sandstorm though, so that could lead to shat pants with a U-Turn swap out while hidden by that Move.

...Right, and Regice probably would've just been collecting dust until it would be acceptable to gift it to Lorelei without coming across as a bribe/buying her.

Now, with a proper writing buff to actually come across as a Legendary Giant made by a Super-Giant that pulled continents around, an unstoppable metal juggernaut is pretty good. A self-repairing rock-robot would also be terrifying, and I can't tell if there's any special significance to Regice's normal temperature of -328 degrees Fahrenheit other than "Cold as no more balls".
not to mention the fact that he is a ground type specialist, which means he can use any pokemon that can learn ground type moves. They don't need to be ground type, otherwise this would be called a ground type pokemon specialist.

The funny part is that is probably 90% of the pokemon in the game. Added benefit that it works well in a sand team.

As far as I'm aware it's not like he's forced into the theme of ground types, or that he's aiming for a ground type theme.

He has ground type aura, which presumably makes ground type pokemon easier to train and more potent in battle. It wouldn't surprise me if the only reason he can get his Nidoking to listen to him is because of his aura.

As such it makes sense for him to spend his time searching for and training ground types. But if he saw say an S rank growlithe I expect he'd definitely snatch it up if he could.

As we saw with ursaring he can definitely train pokemon that aren't ground type and as we see with registeel he's willing to keep pokemon that aren't ground type if he thinks they're good enough.

Why are people trying to convince themselves that it's totally reasonable for a Ground-type specialist to have non-ground types in the group, to the point of claiming things like:

not to mention the fact that he is a ground type specialist, which means he can use any pokemon that can learn ground type moves. They don't need to be ground type, otherwise this would be called a ground type pokemon specialist.

that?

That's dumb.

It's a ground type specialist story. He's going to use ground types barring particularly exceptional circumstances.

As we saw with ursaring he can definitely train pokemon that aren't ground type

Except it evolves into a ground type.

as we see with registeel he's willing to keep pokemon that aren't ground type if he thinks they're good enough.

That's a literal one-of-a-kind out and out legendary pokemon, that shouldn't count at all.

It's the Level 80 shiny Dialga nuzlocke rule for monotype teams. You can't not catch it.

Exactly.

Like, he's a Ground type specialist. He's going to use ground pokemon 9.99999 out of 10 times. But if you encounter a literal once-in-a-lifetime catch that happens to be outside the specialty... then yeah, it's reasonable to break the mold in that one case.

But otherwise, the logic of "He should use any pokemon, as long as they have a ground type move" being used to try and justify using non-ground types in a ground type specialist story is just... really silly.

The Grundy scene was fucking hilarious as was the scene of our MC and Krookodile doing a makeshift haka hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

oki so

Gliscor, Nidoking, Ursaluna, Mamoswine, Golurk, Krookodile, Registeel
(Claydol, Flygon) [Quagsire]
Solid team right there. Pretty much all the nutty Ground types, missing only a few OP mons like -
Garchomp, Swampert, Rhyperior, Torterra, Excadrill, Clodsire, [Great Tusk(?)]

His coverage so far - Dual types: Flying, Poison, Normal, Ice, Ghost, Dark, Psychic, Dragon, Water, Rock, Grass, Steel.

Then we have Registeel.

Lorelei is such a baddie fuck yea.
