...I am legitimately fucking shocked anyone remembers that game other than me. It's amazing and every Ace Combat fan should play it, but Cocoon Squadron, their Queen, and their amazing theme is what I'll remember the most. (Sadly, the Cocoon-colored Rafale isn't in Ace Combat 7 like it was in Infinity...)

Also, being on a handheld isn't so bad. Remember, people actually played Ace Combat X, and even Joint Assault despite it having the most ridiculous plot of any video game. I'm more concerned that they decided to name it after the game everyone hated despite it being set in Strangereal and having nothing to do with it, at all, ever.

I played Ace Combat X, and the thing I remember from it most is a deep, powerful frustration that some idiot thought putting it on the PSP was a good idea. I only have one left thumb, and I don't want to have to fly in a straight line during a dogfight to look around.

As for the remake of 2, I'm quite ticked that some idiot thought that tying it to Assault Horizon was a good idea. And also ticked that someone thought putting it on the 3DS was in any way acceptable. The 3DS is a great handheld, but Ace Combat in no way fits to its strengths.
