  • For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.

I actually like this introduction much better than Pathfinder Kingmaker, but those guys seem to compare dislike strong starts. I think this is a much better introduction to D&D than something slow, so I'm really biased against them.

I mean, I could go onto a very big rant about this, but the short version is: they don't actually WANT your introduction to be easy, because that's not what Real D&D is about.

They're complete berks and you should basically disregard them. (Though there do seem to be legitimate issues with BG3 right now, but, you know. Early Access, Larian, it'll be fine.)

But they also don't want it to be impressive. Like, they compare waking up being turned into a mind flayer like "luke skywalker being on a star destroyer surrounded by sith", as if that wouldn't have been a cool way to open a game.

Their logic: "You shouldn't want to be special! You should EARN being special! Like how it should be in society, where you don't deserve anything you haven't earned, like I obviously did! So you need to start as a level 1 adventurer farming dirt and murdering Always Chaotic Evil races for loot, and rerolling if they deplete your 1d4 HP, just as Gary Gygax intended."
