Reading about these sex robots from True Companion, and how owners swap them with each other all the time supposedly. They aren't sentient yet, but we're going to hit a point where AI is very much sentient, and there's going to be a gap between when those sex robots become real people and when we as a world begin recognizing them as real people.

Yeah that sounds right. And I feel like we're definitely not there yet. The closest thing to an AI we got is that stuff google is doing.

But this True Companion stuff is already able to simulate moods and attitudes. Only a matter of time.

From what I heard they are betting that with the help of quantum computers they'll have true AIs. (You'd have a supercomputer in your laptop.) And in the last few months there have been various breakthrougs there... http://futurism.com/tag/quantum-computers/
