Ummm, what do we have? Semblance are reflections of person soul. each person has a unique version of it. Some families have magic bloodlines that share the same semblance over generations, and directly contradicting the first rules, but that's RWBY's writing for you.

Did the show give us anything else about semblances, or are they just basically cheap power ups for the main cast and villains?

Power ups imply transformations which is cooler and would fit the word, wearing a Semblance. A persona. Instead it's fucking x men mutation

I really thought they would have people semblances change over time to reflect their personality or character changing, not like you said mutant power bullshit.

Ruby starting with super speed evolving into being able to slow down time, reflecting how in the beginning she really wanted to be seen as an adult and a leader, trying desperately to speed things up and to move past her tragic backstory,

So Tai has daddy Semblance for girls looking at him as hero and the Dragon Semblance from his past if his bloodlust returns

Only for now she desperately wants to go back to when they were dumb kids at beacon and the biggest worry was failing a test or dumb drama with Blake and Weiss. Shit man I came up with that in a few seconds, why couldn't the writer have been more creative.

tai's semblance evolving to be more protective and have less area of effect attacks, to reflect that his new found passion in life in being a father and not a murder blender.

So Semblances start simple and grow more complicated and powerful as people flesh them out, and we got the Dark and light Aura idea to put on top of this.

Light and dark, are obviously just a sign of how emotionally healthy someone is. Constantly swimming in rage and hate makes you aura dark, being at peace and content makes it light. You hold onto light or dark for long periods of time it starts effecting your semblance and aura.

Maybe even if you hold on to it for too long can start leaking out and people will automatically get a bad vibe or avoid you if your aura is dark, and if its light everyone will try being your friend without knowing why.

Now I am the moral grey king so I wonder at people who are naturally inclined to dark or light, but are good with themselves. Some people are negative and others are positive, but both can be happy in different ways. Be funny to have Tai be one of the darkest of Auras but all the girls know besides the smutty Daddy is he has a very relaxing bright aura

Why is Jaques even in charge? You would think being such an asshole that you basically create the whole white fang movement by yourself, wouldn't really help with the whole running the business thing he's supposedly good at.
