As for Jaques he's genuinely a very intelligent and very ruthless man who grew up in the slums begging and fighting for his life, and with those skills eventually worked his way up to controlling the strongest company on the planet. He's very dangerous, but he has couple key flaws.

One he doesn't like fighting or getting physical, preferring others to handle the dirty work. Two he's incapable of humoring other people and see's compromises as a slight against him, so he basically has no true friends or allies that he hasn't bought or blackmailed. And three he does genuinely love his family, even if he's an abusive piece of shit, and can't conceive of the idea they would turn against him.

Jaques whole thing is that he came from a broken home in the slums and all his life he wanted the big house, fast car, warm meals, all the things he would see on tv and hate and envy for. And eventually he got it, he also got a hot wife and a couple kids, and in his mind he suppose to be happy now.

But he's not. So he keeps expanding the company and his wealth thinking it'll fill that void inside that he doesn't really understand why its there just like he doesn't understand how to show people he loves or cares about them. to him affection is giving someone money because to him that's all he's ever wanted.

Jaques is like a mobster making it to the top and slowly realizing it doesn't make him happy. And that family he wanted so much, he hasn't the slightest clue what to do with them, so he keeps trying to treat them the same way he would treat any other of his associate's or business partner's and doesn't understand why he keeps messing up.

How ever bad you feel for the guy, he practically kept his wife locked away in a empty lonely house for a decade taking advantage of her mental illness to get control over her father's company and gain a conservatorship over her and the kids, and then raping her to have said kids with you.

He's a monster, but he didn't have to be one and that's what I'm going for with him. Whitely and Willow have every reason to hate him and want him dead, but that death is still going to have an emotional impact on them even if they deny it to themselves.
