Cool. Sounds super busy. Anyway, what's been going on with your story? Any new ideas or thoughts?

I'm going to be staying home from work tommorow, with the move coming up were going do a bunch of the packing and getting rid of stuff tommorow.

Want to talk about warfare and such and how that would work? The unique idea for the setting is war are mostly fought between groups of elite Scions of the Broken Thrones, the shaman Kung Fu masters as these larger than life duals. And how soon before you get to your new place and start job scouting?

Were going to be in Arizona at the end of April, and I'll be putting my two weeks in next week on the 8th, so next friday.

I'm going to take a lot of jobs over in Phoenix just to get an idea, but i won't start applying untill I actually get there, so again probably end of April beginning of the month after it. Depends how long it takes for us to get settled in.

So if war is concentrated on elite groups, what use is standing army for? it it like more for occupying territory or the potential for training new elite units? Or could elite units get overwhelmed by enough mooks? or do most nations do away with the whole concept of a standing army and just foucs on a small hand full of people?

Occupying territory and guarding it and you still have armies but on the smaller size as altercations break down into super human mage warrior combats and numbers and teamwork helps even the odds against the stronger Scions

Kind of intresting to imagine, but super powered mages will probably create basically special forces and squad tactics, a few hundred years before our timeline. Would be interesting to see how it effects warfare. not even just the superhuman part, just how making an army or a security system that can respond to that or superhuman spies.

Idea is warbands from sponsered by noble houses to mercs fighting over territory and the normal folk in between? I got nothing

Yeah, I got nothing too. Would have to sit down and read about ancient armies and thern theorize how they would respond to magic. Which sounds fun, but i'm pretty braindead after work so i'll save that for later.

But you mentioned this was a more serious story? So whose the hero? Who's the villian? What kind of themese and idea's are you looking to include?

Everyone gets to be a hero. The main tale is the mercenary bastard daughter of the warlord Daizan entering a dualing contest that various factions are sending champions over to instead of fighting the wars they were in and she meets Radovar the son of a knightly tradition. The big bad is Daizan but he's meant to be both a bad person and likable and tragic for how he got to where he is

There's a planned adopted ward turned adopted daughter for Daizan he loves more than the biological daughter he never thought of and the envy there that leads to Neidan the daughter killing him and overall I want you feel fucking wretched for everyone dying. There is no good or bad. There's heroic conviction and the consequences of those desires acting out.

So the power of rightous convictions, but also the danger this power represents. Okay, that's pretty cool. A lot of place you could take that. So these arguments are they more about hurt pride or confused idenities? I think Daizan's complicated relationships could fit either or.

It's how can people strive for goals, suffer for wanting them, find sympathetic reasons for why they pursue these goals, and how all these emotions cause devastation and carnage. I am a tragic kind of writer of heroic dooms.

So is the whole story headed towards a tragedy, or are you looking more for something bittersweet. Because bittersweet I'm decent at, but full blown tragedies i stuggle with a little bit. Lol, it sound stupid but even for my more heinous character's i have trouble giving them a bad ending.

Bittersweet. I will make people love Daizan while trying not to whitewash how he betrayed his family to get where he is at and how the system he was born in crafted him to be this ruthless tyrant while also making it clear that if he had loved his daughter Neidan he wouldn't die having to defend his adopted daughter from her. And that is just part one.

I'm almost nervous to ask what happens in part two. lol
