Do they at least have complicate and rich backstories for the nations or engaging mechanics for conquering them? That's the other half of the fun and from what I'm hearing they won't have that either.

They have backstories. Mechanics are developer is trying but renply novels suck at game play. The whole plot is a cult where by avoiding sex with men women get youth and greater physical strength with some interesting worldbuilding thrown in here and there

That concept lends itself to some dark places. Could very easily make a kingdom of rape, were loyal soldiers are rewarded with wives and slaves from their conquest. I mean shit, Gengis Khan raped hundreds of woman without magic powers being blessed, imagine how many he would in that world.

I would've made it to were instead of rape, its the act of a woman surrendering herself to you. Make it a whole long process that requires the right mix of love and control for her to be willing to do that. It gives good game play mechanics and moves away from the pure rape into something a little more grey.
