I was actually thinking Debbie would be the one to kill him this time. I thought it fit more thematically with Angstrom underestimating her in both timelines. In this one her hidden strength and in the canon one he underestimated the impact she had on Mark and Nolan.

What I like about the heart of darkness is that it helps give characterization to the mob and their elder god. Basically my idea was the mob and their customs and rules they based it on, is based on rituals and spells given to them by their elder god. Basically makes it to where just by doing business they are knowingly worshiping and spreading the power of their god.

The sicilian mafia was based off of paramilitary units and before that the complicated feudal system Sicily had. Sounds a lot like sin-eating. Which as the name implies is some ancient Christian traditions is where, you know how during communion you eat bread and drink wine and it symbolizes jesus body and blood, which by eating your accepting him into your body and soul.
