The practice fights he does in the yard is a great example. He kicks everyone's ass showing off his strength and yet he also is bonding with the guards and noble visiting in the process by being a good sport about the whole thing. Perfectly fine with getting his ass kicked.

It really threads the line between being king with absolute authority and everyone's favorite drunk uncle, and Robert is very good at balancing those two seemingly conflicting roles.

Well something really interesting is that you can visibly tell how much smarter he is now versus where he was at in the beginning of the story just in the way his inner dialogue is structured.

How so and what you think of the smut and his characterization from how he was in canon vs here?

We'll canon Robert actually had a pretty small role in this first book despite all the background stuff. Baelish actually had at least double the speaking lines he did, with most of the first book occupied with world building and Ned exploring the mystery surrounding Jon's death. With a lot of the best lines in the show being created by them.

They gave more to Robert through the acting then the book did. Reminds me of Viserys and Daemon getting a more in their show vs the book

But in both cases, Robert was a sad sack of shit. Some who was only alive out of spite to the Targ's and Lannister's. He didn't care about being a king or a father, and was content to drink, eat, and bitch at anyone around him.

But especially in the show with like you said the actor was able to carry it a whole lot further. You could see glimpses of a pretty smart guy, who was able to make friends and turncoat his enemies just as easily as he led his own. He was a very charismatic guy, he just lacked the patience or ambition to do anything with it.

And here he has a wife to push him to the highest of ambition

I was actually about to say that. He's still not an ambitious guy here. Lyanna's the one. He would be perfectly content to sit in his castle fuck his daughters all day, only being interrupted by feast, drink, and then fighting in the yard with his friends and boys for a couple hours to round out the perfect day. He's not a very complicated guy when you get down to it.

But he's willing to be a king, and potentially a very cruel one if needed, to protect his family and make sure Westeros stays stable and secure despite the chaos that magic has brought to it.

Kind of hard to get horny with a headache, you'll have to ask me some other time, but it is nice and descriptive. Plus I do like how casual it's all treated. lol

Just that, it's about some town that's secretly from a fairy tale world but an evil witch, who's really just misunderstood, sealed it away. With the main conflict being the evil witch and the main heroines, who's also the chosen hero, fighting for custody over their son.
