Then Gloria's employers are going to try and leverage her relationship with him to get Maine and his crew under their thumb. So she's going to try and avoid him at all cost. While with Maine, not only is there some unresolved romantic feelings involved, the two never hooking up since his edgerunner lifestyle doesn't mix well with fatherhood for David, he also feels guilty.

Since Gloria almost got raped and then in debt in the aftermath to these mysterious employers, and he can't help her or David do anything about it. So he tries various ways to stay involved or help her out. She turns away any money or offers of work, but she's not as reluctant to turn down free babysitting, especially with as her job gets more high profile they can double as security.

Oh this is interesting. Maine feels bad he couldn't help David out. This furthers his uncle role he grows to like. While David gloms onto him as a mentor figure. Further increasing guilt at allowing his mom to corrupt and seduce Maine's girlfriend. That's an element of NTR you don't see messed with. Its fucking with someone they care about but they still do it.

With Maine and his crew slowly filtering in and meeting David, with him getting involved in their orbit and maybe having a romance or two with Lucy or Rebecca, depending on the timing of when they join with Maine. All the while Maine is trying to teach the young David how to shoot, talk, and fight, and basically acting as a bit of a mentor in dealing with everything around his mom.
