Questionable Questing

Pretty good, got some writing in today and tomorrow's the weekend. Plus while I think the newest season has been very slow and kinda fillery. The season finale kind of makes up for a lot of that. While I'm not a hundred percent sold on this version of conquest for my own story, since in the comic's he much more a force of nature representing the overwhelming power of Viltrum rather than a real character.

What did the show do different?

This speech they gave him is way too fucking good. Jeffrey Dean Morgan might've gotten the job because of Nepotism, Kirkman is hiring all of his old Walking Dead Alumni, but he killed it. And I love how despite feeling guilty and even hating what he's doing, he can't stop it either. Could totally see a serial killer giving this same speech to one of his victims.

Conquest hating it? That is extremely different from the comics. Want to hear more of Pale Lights tonight?

Sure would love too, and yep totally different from the comic's. Also the speech gets cut off at the end, his finale line to Mark is take it to your grave. He's so alone the only people he can vent to or emotionally connect are his victims. But another big change is that in the comics he's a lot more professional. This is a job for him. He has objectives and missions to complete.

He likes fighting, but he doesn't get a kick out of torturing or killing like on the show. For him he just wants to end his shift and go home basically. Not here where he's happy Mark resisted because that lets him kill more people.

So there are two other characters that appear. Song Ren is a rule abiding fantasy chinese woman who believes all are free under heaven and hates nobles. She is friends with Angrahed who is a noble of Perdur.

Maryam is a fantasy russian who hates Malini for enslaving her pale skinned slavic people and has a history of witchcraft from her mother. Angrahad is Malni. Tristan just doesn't trust anyone except his Goddess Fortuna who loses arguments with pidgions

So why are these very different culturally and personality wise, character's working together? Some common evil or goal? Are they forced to? Are the fighting each other?

They got put together in a Brigade to enter a school for the Watch, a organization who fights rogue gods and monsters, at the end of book one which is all about trials to join the Watch and a deeper mysteyr.

From what you were describing I didn't expect a Hogwarts style school, but what's it like? As well as the Watch?

Tristan and Angarahad are the only two pov's of book one while book two includes Song and Maryam

A deadly military academy teaching deicide and with training that kills a dozen or more so students of the Warrior covenant order of the watch kn the first day of class.
The Watch has free companies who take on mercenary contracts while enforcing international law on the supernatural and act as the ones making sure the great powers don't blow up the world. They are very neutral outside their duties

So not like Hogwarts at all. lol. But if they just randomly kill off potential students, why does anyone decide to go? What's the carrot or the stick so to speak?

It's not random. The training is so deadly for the Warrior covenant in the Watch they naturally die. The other Covenant orgs less so but still lethal

But what powers and abilities do they get out of the training that makes something so brutal worth it? Is there any political or status advantages too?

Maryam trains in Signs. Drawing symbols of power in the air with Glosm to cast spells. Tristan trains under Devil spies. Song is taught how to be a captain. And Angharad is in the Convent of people who can kill giant monsters with old man canes smile slowly walking forward based on pure skill.

The watch is a massively powerful organization and will help them achieve their ambitious with its resources as they rise in rank and gain favors

Sounds pretty cool. So do they interact at all or become friends or enemies, since you said they're all in different classes? And did they chose to go to the school for the resources and power? Or where they forced to for some unforeseen reasons?
