So why hasn't the Frey's sent someone to butter him up and try to get them on their side before the Cragonmen can take advantage of their relationship with Ned to do so.

The crown doesn't need to wave it's dick around to make the Frey's lose. All it needs to do is loan Hurrik some money, pull some strings to get a team of magic users out there, and boom you have a brand new bride built in a couple of weeks. Once a bride is built that's game over for the Frey's. Sure they can dispute it, but Lords are allowed to build infrastructure in their own land.

They're not going to allow the Frey's to mess with the laws that could restrict their powers over their own lands. Personality wise the idea is he to himself thinks he is extremely polite and kind. Helping the people of Moat Calin.
He was raised by a human herds orc shepherds and thinks part of honor is the strong defending the joy of the weak but also devotion and adulation by the sheep people to the fierce protective warrior. This feeds into a comedy tone of "I'm halping"

He's meant to be this more cultured Conan archtype with flaws but also a greater inner code. Martial supremacy is baked into him with his worship of the Orc Father God of War. Grummish here being a mixture of Odin and Ares.

Honestly he sounds a little condescending and arrogant, I wonder how he would respond to getting his ass kicked by someone.
