So far semester with women writers was good. Got to read good books

I worked on Magical girl a little bit today, will do some more tomorrow. And reading the classic's is always fun because you can see how certain tropes and ideas are evolving in real time.

Jane Erye was a treat to see the origins of surly male romantic lead

Reading Robinson Crusoe and seeing how it basically pioneered the island survival genre was pretty cool too. So many tropes, from lack of water, lack of tools, getting hunted by some unknown creature at night only to discover its a deer, isolation causing the MC to make little figurines and idols, building a half broken raft and risking it out in the sea to escape. Really cool stuff.

What's Crusoe?

That's the name of the book. lol. Robinson Crusoe. Crusoe is the guys last name, it's an Anglicized version of the German last name Kreutznaer.

Although the original title of the book was something like the autobiography of the many famed adventures of Robinson Crusoe. But the name got shortened for obvious reasons. It was written all the way back in 1719 and is basically one of the first modern novels.

Or of Bal Gore-Strewn. The son of a defeated pair who led a rebellion and was placed in a group of ritual sacrifices only to find friends. Friends slain by others of that group of prospects to become God-Sworn champions. Of how in vengeance for his friends death he broke his heart and mercy

Lots of vengeance and blood, two pretty common themes. Is that what your going for? About how the circle of violence isn't good for anyone? Or more about how ambitions lead to bodies and war? And with the daughter of the Stalwart knight, what are her reasons for her ambitions?

Her uncle encouraged dreams of conquest and glory for her house abs advised using her friends to gather their houses forces.

Now he loves her and he liked the friends. Still convinced her to start a war in their home kingdom.

The main theme is nihilism vs idealism

What's going to represent Nihilism and how are you going to portray its flaws?

Bal's moral chaos. He's a berserking werewolf warrior man who also tries to teach the son and daughter of a random soldier he killed how to survive in this harsh world and better themselves. He sings and dances while offering kind words and in another scene bites out throats.

Power, glory, honor, kin and friends. He lives to be happy. His small circle of a viewpoint pushes him along a cycle of conflict. There will never not be a danger to his life or loved ones because he's the asshole burning cities to the ground for a King
