OMAKE - Initial Biovertist Resource Report (post-2.0)
Biovertists report and analysis
The trade with the agri-baron has gone well she drove a hard bargain
But we got the samples
Sample one
It is a small black thing that grows in clumps and is rich in protein. Old records tell us they are called 'beans' ( writers note funny name the small black things') the taste is good but side effects include bowl flatulence
Testing continues for more side effects

Sample two yellow thing that is large the sample is covered by a textile luke substance guarding yellow small things the rest of the sample 2 is inedible ( writers note 'sample 2 tastes well multiple experiments are running on samples from brewing of alcohol to making fabrics from outer shell experiments from consumption show that only the yellow bits are edible not the textile like substance or core
Also there is a massive debate on what sample two is actually called as the old records for it had two names corn and maize ') nutrient count high in carbs

Sample 3 multicolor roundish thing it is sweet the name for it is unknown description is is roundish and had a core in the middle (purpose unknown) and is very delicious ( authors note multiple fights have broken out over this substance and taste is delicious we must get more samples)

Sample 4 tall green thing analysis of it show very high amounts of sugar ( this sample along with sample 2 has been very successful in the scop trials we must get more of it. Ps alcohol experiments from sample 4 show good results must get more of tall green things)
Samples from frozen swamp show great promise negotions with the must continue

Authors note I made this snippet as best as I can from the viewpoint of a denizen of the forever winter
As you can see our biotester does not know the names of the crops because they are lost due to the war and is experimenting with them
Bad grammar is intentional because Grammer rules got destroyed in the apocalypse
Sample 3 is mango sample 4 is sugar cane

OMAKE - Summarized Conclusion of Eurasian Ministry of State Security Report on Recent Anomalous Incidents in Lost Angels Battlezone (post-2.0)
Intelligence extraction

Eurasian ministry of state security
Los Angeles combat zone anomalies report
anomalous activity was first reported when costal sector formally known as Venice Beach was transformed into green tropical beach
The 1957th cyborg regiment under Sergent Tanaka was sent to investigate orders to extract samples and scout area and if need be destroy the jungle
Note zaikatsu biomedical shows keen interest in the organic compounds of jungle anomaly

Second anomalous activity was recorded when buildings fell from the atmosphere
The buildings landed on several regiments totaling the casualties of 894 troopers investigations by troops show language and items similar to goods from Myanmar autonomous province

Third anomaly was reported when combat zone know as frozen swamp growing food items zaikatsu biomedical has requested samples and orders for scorched earth tactics to prevent Europans from getting food samples

Fourth anomaly was reported when excess water appeared along with forest 2877th cyborg regiment have been sent to investigate area

Fifth anomaly an wave of energy known by civilians as the godwave have recorded by satellites has went around the globe restoring infrastructure thus putting industrial capacity at 100 percent as reported by zaikatsu biomedical, XAVAX GROUP and Hypax group.

I send this recommendation that the anomalies of the Los Angeles combat zone must be studied as the godwave anomaly increased the chance of victory by 43 percent and lobbying from the corporations for capture and study of the anomaly has begun.

This is Eurasian ministry of state security colonel song seo-jun signing off

Hoped you liked my snippit of the Eurasians reacting to this and all the corporations are names from the forever winter wiki

Question, given that the Godwave repairs all industry... would that not also restore the governing AI attached to said industry?

Specifically, the Night Shift. The automated municipal repair system that has been tangling Lost Angel's for who knows how long into a nonsensical morass of pipe and concrete.

If that's fixed, if they're ALL fixed... the planets going to start repairing itself. Potentially including whatever systems were designed to manage the environment itself. Weather control, agriculture, etc.

Of more concern... all the various mad AI war gods now have access to an infinite supply of fissiles. We are on a time limit before the nukes start flying.

Some fic-based lore WOG, going forward... New

I can actually use this as an excuse to include elements from the recent update.

Maybe I can combine some unused ideas I got from ChatGPT and use that for the "R" Cult somehow...

The Night Shift? Near as I can tell, they don't rebuild things, just sweep the battlefields every night for the dead and dying. Also, I don't know about municipal repair, I just wrote that every industrial assembly line was not only repaired, but also experienced an inexplicable 800% increase in manufacturing capacity.

As for the fissiles... you're referring to restored nuclear power plants? I'm fairly certain that certain Europan command sector HQs now involve secret breeder reactors kept underground. It's still MAD, as far as I'm concerned.

Watch this guy killpo1's channel it's good for worldbuilding and will help with writing the story
the video is in english French words are appearing for some reason?

The lore apparently isn't in the wiki for some reason, but the early trailers explained that the Night Shift is the Scav term for malfunctioning construction and repair bots that are attempting to repair the infrastructure of Lost Angels even as the war above tears it to ribbons.

They are however badly malfunctioning, and it's why so many maps are full of wierd monuments and warped buildings.

The comparison to a Factorio Roboport system is obvious I think.

As for fissiles, the core of the Forever Winter war is a resource conflict. Everyone is out of just about everything.

The Godwave completely restored resource deposits, oil, copper, lithium, and crucially, uranium. Easily accessible, and now refined at extreme speeds and assembled into new warheads just as quickly.

So whatever and whoever is left at the 'top' of the meganations can now rebuild their arsenal incredibly quickly. MAD has already come and gone, the planet is already effectively destroyed. Now all that's left is the endless war, and pursuit of victory at any cost.

Hmm. Considering that Fun Dog runs the Forever Winter wiki, they either forgot that part, changed it or retconned it.

The MAD part isn't how many robots they can build to replace their heavy weapons units, but how much personnel the AIs are willing to sacrifice. That's the numbers game to them, no matter how ready they are to start lobbing nukes again.

Plus, unless something like the Godwave is rolled again, the only thing that's permanent about that roll was the increased effectiveness and restored industry and related infrastructure. The resources will run out again eventually. But for my protag and his little band, escaping has become even more of a priority.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'll make a note of it in the next chapter.

Batov: why did the factory shoot at you

Yezhov: it had automated turrets lots of them it decimated my unit but it did not target the conscripts.

Batov: why is that?

Yezhov: most likely it saw us as the more dangerous target

batov: then what happened?

Yezhov: as the sole remaining member of my unit I decided the information about this anomaly was more important so I retreated to report this to high command.

2.1 - Time and In-Between New
2.1 - Time and In-Between

***********************************************

The trip had been a bit of a slog on a cracked and pitted excuse for a ground-level highway. Only a few patches of road exhibited faded patches of painted stripes to give away their former existence as roads.

Penny had it lucky. If she got tired, she could just teleport ahead and wait for us to catch up, which she only had to do once after she realized how boring it was to wait for us. She didn't even have any tools to distract herself with. But at least she had Axel perched on her head.

Me, I was on the opposite end. Just because I'd dropped a pant size or two didn't mean I was that much healthier. More often than not, my feet were killing me after an indeterminate period of walking, and I so wanted to sit down.

So, just on a lark...

1 - 5

Roll for permanence - 2

Back at it, huh, choom? Well, this is about par for the course. This female basketball player from Spain will not remember the two nights of surreal dreams she will have of this post-apocalyptic world.

Well, that was a bust. I wasn't in any particular mood to try again, so I just called out, "Guys, hold up!" With that, I collapsed against a chunk of road divider and pulled out my canteen, suddenly in desperate need of hydration. As surprisingly cool water rushed into my mouth, I could see the others sitting down around me. Almost like a diamond formation, to be pedantic.

As I finished drinking and put my canteen away, I decided to break the ice. "So... that wave was big, wasn't it?"

Oh, yeah, it's all coming together now. Really. Hell of an icebreaker right there, fella.

Xelliren was pensive. "It was certainly powerful," the transformed silver dragon noted. "There was real strength to it, but it was too focused for me."

I found myself quirking an eyebrow at his choice of words, but it was Barry who chose to speak up. "Too focused?"

The dragon nodded. "When I spoke of significant enough alterations, I was referring to general, wide-scale changes in the environment."

"What, like a Conjunction of the Spheres?" I deadpanned. Perhaps using a "Witcher" reference might've been a bit obscure, but sometimes levity was just necessary.

"Nothing so overt as a multiversal bleedover, that has consequences." Xelliren disagreed. "No, I'm talking more like wide-scale overlays. Like when you spawned that forest, or spontaneously created that lake with those oversized novelty traps. But, you know, much bigger. And maybe more often, considering their apparent rarity."

"How much bigger and more often?" Penny asked.

"Well..." Xelliren was about to clarify when I decided to roll again.

18 - 17

Roll for permanence - 19

This oversized, creeping, somewhat parasitic orchid (native to southeast Madagascar) has now adapted to this benighted world, more akin to kudzu. Are they edible? I'm not finding out.

A strange, crackling noise drew our collective attention, and me, G, Barry, Penny and Axel all turned our gaze to a nearby patch, only to see of vines crawling over debris and branching off to sprouting two leaves per blossom at each bulb. And these vines had many blossoms for each branch indeed.

"Bigger than that," Xelliren said faintly. "And maybe not so active."

For her part, Penny just cocked her head and said, "How are those things thriving in this post-nuclear environment?"

"Wrong question," I replied, knowing something about kudzu. "If those things grow like that here and now, imagine what it would've been like if the environment wasn't so bad."

From the way Barry hissed behind his teeth, I realized that he seemed to know a few things about invasive species and their effects on foreign environments. I didn't bother asking, I'd probably get lost like five minutes into his story.

"Maybe..." Penny said hesitantly. "Maybe we should get moving."

We all took one look at the way those vines were crawling up and over long-demolished structures before turning to look at each other. Sharing a nod, we jumped to our feet (well, I staggered and lurched) and legged it down the highway as fast as we could manage.

Along the way, I decided on another roll of the dice.

1 - 1

Roll for permanence - 3

...a list of this Filipino basketball tournament, specifically noting the years it was played, the names of the participating teams and the winners and losers from each year that this tournament was held. It's not long, though, and the list will self-destruct after three minutes.

True to the text-window's word, three short minutes later saw this plainly-written list on a sheet of cheap paper spontaneously tear itself into pieces before fading away. Inexplicably, I found the whole thing amusing enough to huff a laugh of two, but I was too lazy to actually do it.

Seriously, though, who'd have thunk it? Two bum rolls spaced out by a cracked one? C'mon, luck coin, you gotta be good for somethin'.

3 - 18

Roll for permanence - 14

...you know what, this has been the best roll you've done at this moment. So I've decided to replace your "Gunhead" drone's head-mounted AA-12 automatic shotgun emplacement with this cryo-beam cannon. But because of the permanence roll, the cryo-beam cannon can only shoot once every twelve hours.

True to the text-box's word, 4D7/"G" lost his "gun-head" and indeed had it replaced. The cryo-beam cannon appeared to feature a snub-nosed barrel with a cyclotron behind the neck base and what looked like an ice crystal jutting from where a pistol's rear sight and hammer would be located. The AA-12 shotgun that was once there now suddenly fell into the robot's hands, spontaneously freed, while the M4 in its arms clattered to the floor but was quickly snapped up by Barry. I guess he'd have to get his hands on the ammo for that weapon that Forty-Seven had in its rig somewhere...

The combat-modified robot just turned to me before its voice box croaked, "Ano- n-n-nom- a-a-alous-" here, Forty-Seven suddenly hit its voice box again. Then it said clearly, "Anomalous hardware and software have been successfully integrated into this platform." A beat later, it added, "Query - onboard weapons system described as 'Ice Costume'. Requesting clarification."

I didn't have any idea what kind of clarification it was talking about, so I just half-assed it. "If you're asking whether or not these upgrades are going to continue happening? All sources point to yes. If you're asking who gets them? Well, that's another matter entirely."

In an attempt to head off any additional questions, I rolled again.

3 - 11

Roll for permanence - 20

Jesus Christ, choom! You really did it by the numbers now! You've pulled this divine realm away before it could be consumed by the Dream Realm, the land of nightmares! Basically, the Twilight Sea is now the closest thing to an actual afterlife for this universe; a storm-racked ocean, with islands of tranquility in this eternal sea glittering like jewels under a starry-bright night sky.

Unlike with the last massive great change that he'd enacted, this one had no great display to draw the eyes of the world. However, Xelliren suddenly started laughing as his body suddenly started glowing.

DOidzr-5S8uQLn438Nj31w.webp

When the glow stopped being blindingly bright, Xelliren's "true" human form was a handsome young man with pale blond hair and piercing gray eyes. Well, at least he seemed dressed for the weather.

Notably, he hadn't stopped laughing. Before I could even ask that overgrown lizard what was so damn funny, another text-box appeared in my sight.

PSYCHOPOMP

You are now a god of death to this world. Unknown and unnamed, the dead will now pass through the Twilight Sea before reincarnating in another life. However long it takes.

Jesus fucking Christ, I could only imagine the ripple effects from this new development...

Well that's good for all the souls that were most likely stuck on that Earth.

No. Immortality yes, but not control of the dead. The MC is now Anubis, Guardian of the Dead, Keeper of the Gates and Guide to Rebirth. He protects the souls of the dead and the Afterlife. How that manifests in the mortal realm is up to the author.

...see above. It's just an overblown nickname.

Mostly because if I had used that roll as I'd originally intended it, a second Godwave would screw over a ton of my own worldbuilding.

EDIT: Honestly, my last achievement, [AVE OMNISSIAH], went completely unnoticed by comparison.

Why is the flavor text being taken so literally? Do I need to edit it or something?

Because that word and that alteration to the Firmament is monumental. You've also just brought a fount of Magic and Metaphysics of Divinity into the setting. It would have taken the dragon centuries to generate enough mana to transform to his correct form. Ave OMNISSIAH was less impactful in comparison

...that's just-

I'm still trying to sleep amidst this.

Christ, I'm already tired of arguing this.

To me, it's just flavor text of an achievement, because my MC didn't explicitly exercise his will to do it himself and it just happened through a roll. Random chance. The potential was already there and the roll was a catalyst.

As far as my MC's "divinity" is concerned... I'm not gonna go into it. Like, at all.

Write all the omake you want. They'll probably be non-canon, but still...

EDIT: To clarify (after sleeping extremely late), my MC didn't experience an apotheosis that would allow him to "build" an afterlife realm, so I don't consider him having become a god of death. There, period fucking dot. That's author WOG for you and let that be the end of it.
