The problem in this case is how the information is stored and you are also forgetting what is storing that data.Hamm not so fun anymore. The shard could easily crush the remaining Taylor yet it keeps lettering her exist and ruin plans. Just manipulate the brain to delete her conseousnes and leave the data behind.
That's alright, just cut off the brains access to the spinal cord, paralyze he body every time Taylor tries to take control. While its cut off from the brain mc can still control it using the shard power. The problem in this case is how the information is stored and you are also forgetting what is storing that data.
The shards are loath to remove any source of information. The entire cycle is specifically about gathering more and you never know what could be useful later on. For instance, Taylor's emotions and more primal drives provide direction and motivation to the shard's consciousness. Without them it would, as it said, be completely incapable of doing much of anything.
The other big issue is the specific way that information is stored in the human mind. It's all associations. Remove the emotional information and suddenly the entire context of any given memory no longer makes sense with what it is connected to. I mean, yeah, you could mine the left overs for pure information but the act of playing Taylor suddenly becomes much harder and imitating a zombie would probably be difficult.
The big thing to remember is that shards don't normally need or use complex cognitive functions. They are very much supersized Geth. Dumb as bricks single purpose AI that become complex when interacting with each other to form a supra organism. The entire reason the Adaptation shard has a will at all is because of what is left of Taylor.
Listen, you've commented before that you don't like this story. So then enlighten me, please. If you don't like the story, why the fuck are you reading it?The great and amazing mission to adapt reduced down to highschool dynamics. Plus for mc isent highschool a complete waste of time, why not just get GED and pass out.
Here is what it boils down to, sure, this sort of scenario can happen, the shard can act stupid, it can be inefficient, it can let Taylor stay alive and ruin its vastly more efficient plans. But in the end there has to be a logical reason for it, a unrestricted shard dedicated to the function of adaption by its very nature makes this kind of thing impossible.Listen, you've commented before that you don't like this story. Constructive criticism is a welcome thing, but bitching constantly doesn't count as criticism.
Didn't you read the story? The shard mentioned setting a goal for itself which is to blend into society in the first chapter. Then secondary goal is to get revenge. This is what it has been doing, no need to have grand ambitions of taking over the world or whatever you were expecting. Here is what it boils down to, sure, this sort of scenario can happen, the shard can act stupid, it can be inefficient, it can let Taylor stay alive and ruin its vastly more efficient plans. My comment is entirely logical, how can a hypercompetent unrestricted adaption shard not bother to cut off Taylors mind from her spinal cord and puppet the body when the remnants of Taylors mind has inefficient irrational outbursts and takes over the body to ruin the shards plans? How does an unrestricted adaption shard not comprehend the full dynamics of even smalltime highschool dynamics and make such a blatant and ruinous mistake? how can it not bother to make internal improvements to the body of its sole connection to the cycle when it could be taken out by a stray round? etc etc etc
My criticism is entirely constructive, leading down the logical path that such a scenario leads to and I yet to see any evidence or argument which disproves or patches up these plotholes. Even author handvavium would be enough you know, but since its not shown I can't do anything but continue to point out the holes in the chapters.
Right, but what's the reason for such goals when its purpose, its drive is so much higher? It constantly repeats its important mission in the chapters Growth. Evolution. Adaptation. None of the current missions help with these goals.Didn't you read the story? The shard mentioned setting a goal for itself which is to blend into society in the first chapter. It hasn't been established that the shard is capable of "deleting" Taylor without losing all the information needed to function, besides there's no need to actually do that since the whole goal is to learn. Having Taylor along is better to see how a human would react.
As for why the shard isn't acting like a shard was also mentioned that they never had full control of the body, they were only passengers and couldn't think or act on this level before. This may be why the shard is acting strangely. I also suspect that the thought process of the shard has been heavily influenced by merging with Taylor (more than it realizes).
I think the confusion might be because you think it's just the shard who's making the decisions? Like I said in the last message I believe the shard and Taylor merged and become something else. Shard thinks that it must adapt and gather data because it's what it always knew before, but at the same time it's instead going to get revenge and doing weird stuff (due to Taylor's influence) which can be confusing to the shard because something like this never happened before. I don't think the shard realizes most of this but it's just a guess.Right, but what's the reason for such goals when its purpose, its drive is so much higher? The shard has shown its ability to manipulate the internal and external biology of the body which includes the spinal cord, the shard didn't need to destroy the mind to cut off Taylors access to the body, it could have just cut the spinal cord from the brain or hit one of the many ways to paralyze a human body and puppet it.
It could have easily blended into society by getting a GED, no need to waste time on school since it itself said its pointless. Revenge can be achieved out of school stealthy, no point in doing what the mc did just for petty revenge, there are better more efficient ways to get revenge.
