Yaoyorozu Manor: April 2168
Akio stood before a full-length mirror within his room, having put on the U.A. uniform for the first time. It was surreal. He put in years of work just to reach this point. His studies, martial arts, physical training, his project, apprenticeship under Sir Nighteye, and the entrance exam.
All that and more fed into this moment. Now, he was finally on the path towards his goal. Sure, there were still ways this could end prior to what he wanted to achieve, but those scenarios were far less compared to what could have stopped him prior to this point.
"There's still years more of hard work ahead if I ever want even a shot at being the next Symbol of Peace. Even then, having a uniform from U.A. makes it all feel more doable."
The corners of Akio's lips twitched upwards into a slight smile. He grabbed his armor backpack and threw it on before departing his room. After all, it would not do to be late or potentially make his twin late for the first day.
U.A. High: Musutafu
The twins stepped onto school grounds, not as the candidates they were over a month ago but as students of this school. Before they could enter the building, they both paused as they heard rapidly approaching footsteps and somebody yelling.
"You two! Are you both going to be in Class 1-A!?"
The twins recognized this voice, turning around to see it was the bespectacled boy they'd sat with upon arriving at the entrance exam.
"We are." Momo answered. "I assume you'll be in the same class?"
"That's right." The boy had stopped before them, adjusting his glasses and chopping one arm like a robot. "What're we doing standing around? Come on, we must get to class before we are late!"
"We still have twenty minutes before first class." Akio replied as they entered together.
"While that may be the case, being late will give a negative first impression, and we'll be disrespecting all those who attended Class 1-A prior." The boy suddenly stiffened. "Apologies, where are my manners? My name is Tenya Iida, pleasure to meet you both!"
"The pleasure is mine." Momo rested a hand against her chest. "My name is Momo Yaoyorozu."
"Pleased to meet you." Akio added. "I am Akio Yaoyorozu."
"Brother and sister?" Tenya looked at them, resting a hand on his chin. "You must be twins." He appeared thoughtful as they came across a door with 'Class 1-A' printed on it. "If you are both twins, you must share the same quirk, no?"
He gazed at them curiously, waiting for an answer.
"In this case, Momo has a quirk while I am actually quirkless." Akio voiced.
Momo held up one hand, from which she produced a dog whistle.
"Twins not possessing the same quirk is a rarity." Tenya mused, though his eyes suddenly widened as he looked to the male twin. "Wait, your Akio Yaoyorozu? The one who scored first in the practical part of the entrance exam?"
"That would be the case." Akio voiced, able to hedge a guess where this was going.
"I do not mean offense, though I am curious how you managed to come in first with no quirk to speak off." Tenya voiced, genuinely curious as opposed to seeing this revelation as negative.
"I can't exactly go busting out what I used here in the hallway." Akio replied as he opened the door. "Given we are part of the same class, I'm certain you'll see it sooner or later."
Tenya accepted that answer as the three of them stepped into the room. They ended up taking seats near the front of the class. A few minutes later, Shoto Todoroki walked in with his cold eyes scanning over them.
Tenya burst out of his seat to approach the heterochromatic boy and extended a hand for him to shake. "My name is-"
"It doesn't matter what your name is." Shoto dismissed coldly. "I'm not here to make friends."
Tenya stuttered to a halt, shoulders slumping as the shorter boy walked past him to take one of the empty seats at the back of the class. After him, more people naturally began to arrive. Among them was Mashirao.
Momo was sure to point him out, catching Akio's attention. "That is the boy I told you about, Brother."
"Oh, hey there Momo." Mashirao greeted as he walked over. "The way it's looking, that grape haired guy is at minimum not part of this class."
"While I'd like to teach him why it's unwise to try what he did, I will not wish for such a chance at the cost of him potentially showing up." Akio stood and held out a hand to the blond. "By the way, Akio Yaoyorozu. Thank you for warding him away from my sister."
"It was no problem." Mashirao returned, shaking the offered hand. "While Momo told you my name, it is still proper to say it at first meeting. I'm Mashirao Ojiro."
Just then, Denki and Mina walked into Class 1-A.
"Heh, I told you we'd be in the same class." Mina declared proudly.
"Don't act all high and mighty." Denki nudged her softly, with a smile. "We already know the two of us don't understand probability." He was referring to their shared disdain of the written exam. "All you did was guess opposite of me as we were walking in together."
"Even if it was just a guess, doesn't change the fact I was right." Mina returned.
"Weather either of you were right or wrong, I personally don't care right now." Akio voiced, getting their attention. "What I do care about now is introducing you to my sister, Momo Yaoyorozu."
"Pleasure to meet you two." Momo smiled. "My brother only had good things to say about you, and I thank you for taking a vested interest in him."
"You kidding? My man here is a great guy." Kaminari stated. "It's just too bad we didn't get the chance to exchange numbers given he had to take off suddenly."
"Speaking of which, he left us to see you." Mina noted, a touch concerned. "Was everything alright?"
"In hindsight, I do suppose I didn't actually need my brother immediately." Momo returned, a slight blush of embarrassment on her face.
"I think it was the right call given Midnight had to carry you out of the battle center." Mashirao voiced.
"Even if that wasn't the case, you were still taken to medical." Akio shook his head. "I do not regret being brought to you. That said, I would like to take this moment now to trade numbers. Given you looked out for my sister, you'd be welcome to have my number as well Mashairao."
"Oh, I have no objections to that or giving you mine in return." Ojiro stated.
"Let's make it a complete thing by all of us trading numbers." Kaminari stated. "The more the merrier, right?"
"Given you're right here as well Momo, that means you to." Mina voiced.
Momo smiled. "I would be delighted."
The five of them ended up exchanging numbers with one another. Just as they finished, a smirking blond waltzed into the classroom. He proceeded to plop himself down into a random seat and leaned back as he rested his legs on the desk in-front of him.
Tenya burst forth from his seat and came to stand before the spikey haired blond. "How dare you use this desk as a footrest. You're disrespecting the upperclassmen who would've used this desk before you. I demand you remove your feet."
The blond scoffed, fixing his red eyes on him. "You ain't demanding shit from me, ya two-bit extra."
"Perhaps we should start over." Tenya reeled it back. "I'm Tenya Iida, from the Somei Private Academy."
"Somei, huh?" The blond sniffed, clearly unimpressed. "So, you must think you're better than me. I'm going to have fun tearing you a new one."
"You would threaten your classmate?" Tenya recoiled. "Are you sure you're in the right place?"
Akio found he had to agree with Tenya. This guy didn't know any of them, yet he acted like he was better by default before going onto threaten his classmate. Not exactly a good impression for a hero student.
"How barbaric." Momo sighed, running a hand through her hair.
Having heard her, Katsuki sneered her way. "Eh, you got something to say, Ponytail?"
"Allow me to clear it up for you." Akio voiced. "What my sister meant to say is you should act like the hero student you are rather than a barbaric villain."
"You steal first place from me in that dammed practical exam and suddenly think yourself high and mighty." Katsuki knew who this guy was, even if he didn't know how he managed it. "Why don't you come over here and repeat that to my face?
"I don't much care for how you are talking to my brother." Momo interjected.
"Oh, you two got some guts." Katsuki chuckled. "I'd watch…"
The blond suddenly stopped as his gaze fell on the doorway, which saw everyone looking that way. It appeared none of them had noticed, but the muttering candidate from the entrance exam had opened the door.
"It's him." Tenya noted.
"Uh, hi." The muttering candidate voiced nervously.
"Good morning." Tenya approached. "My name is Tenya Iida from…"
"Yeah, I know." The muttering candidate managed, seeing him stop. "I'm Izuku Midoriya. It's nice to meet you."
"Midoriya." Tenya voiced. "You realized there was something more to the exam, didn't you? You must be very perceptive, and I'll admit you are the superior student to me."
Izuku sweat dropped. "I find that hard to believe."
"Hey, I recognize that messed up hair." A new voice, belonging to a brunette who was entering behind Izuku, stated. "Present Mic was right in that you did pass the exam. Though I'm not surprised because that punch was amazing."
"Hey, it's that nice girl who talked to me." Izuku thought at the same time. "She looks good in that uniform."
As those three talked, Akio glanced at the angry blond who essentially started everyone looking towards the doorway. "It seems those two have a history, likely not a good one if how that blond has acted is any indication."
"I'm going to ruin that little bastard right after I figure out how he got in." Katsuki thought before looking away.
"What do you think we're doing besides orientation?" The brunette was still talking with Izuku, who had gone as red as a tomato. "I wonder what our teachers are like. Oh, I can't wait to meet everybody."
"If you're just here to make friends, you can pack up your stuff now." A voice drawled from outside the classroom, silencing everybody. "Welcome to one of U.A.'s two hero courses."
The voice belonged to a raven-haired man who was dressed in raggedy clothes and a super long scarf of sorts. He hobbled into the classroom as he pulled himself out of the yellow sleeping bag.
"It took eight seconds before you all shut up." The man continued. "That's not going to work. Time is precious. Rational students would understand that. Anyways, I'm Shota Aizawa, your homeroom teacher." He pulled several P.E. uniforms out of a box by his desk. "All of you, with the exception of Akio Yaoyorozu, are to put these on."
While no one knew what exactly was happening, that last comment did have them all looking at Akio.
"Excuse me sir." Tenya rose his hand. "Why would one of us be exempt from wearing the P.E. uniform?"
Akio stood at that, grabbing his backpack from the floor and throwing it on. "To put it simply, I happen to be quirkless." Izuku looked at Akio with surprise while Katsuki glared in his direction upon hearing that. "What I use as a hero doesn't really work with cloths."
He hit the center of his buckle, resulting in the armor forming up around him. This drew looks from everyone else, those who were more expressive were shocked while those who have seen this armor prior or were less emotional merely looked at him.
"You don't have a quirk yet think you can just stroll on in here with some fancy toy!" Katsuki lept up from his seat, slamming his hands on his desk. "Someone like you doesn't belong here!"
"If I don't belong, what does that say about you?" Akio questioned, having his helmet slide back as he turned to look at the angry blond.
"What was that, Tin Can?" Katsuki asked dangerously.
"I'll put it another way, just to you and anyone here who may be having similar thoughts." Akio voiced. "If someone who got first place in the practical exam doesn't belong, what does that say about your place in this class?"
"You bastard!" Katsuki yelled.
He lept over his desk at Akio, to the shock of everyone. Momo stood up, producing a knuckle duster and preparing to assist her brother. Even if he didn't need her, she would not allow this barbarian to attack him like this.
Suddenly, Katsuki was ensnared by a scarf before Shota lept clear over him. He landed well behind the angry blond, restraining him mere inches from reaching Akio. Katsuki could just barely turn his head to look back at the teacher.
"What?" His voice was strained. "Why is your dammed scarf so strong?"
"Because it's a capture weapon made of carbon fiber and a special metal alloy." Shota returned, his hair up and red eyes glowing. "To everyone here, no matter your lot in life, you've earned your place."
"Those goggles!" Izuku had spotted orange goggles, which had been beneath the scarf now holding Bakugo in place. "I know you. You can look at someone and cancel out their quirk. The erasure hero, Eraserhead."
"Whose Eraserhead?"
"Oh, I've heard of him. I think he works on the downlow."
"Someone like him would make for an effective teacher over those with quirks." Akio noted.
Aizawa blinked, his hair returning to normal as the scarf slackened around Katsuki. "Now, stop wasting time." He looked to the others. "Everyone, get moving."
Akio looked away from Katsuki, giving him no further attention as he had his helmet slide back into place. Everyone else, with the exception of the blond who stood there grinding his teeth, got moving.
"He's just another bug, like Deku." Katsuki clenched his fist. "Just like that nerd, I'll crush him all the same!"
Eventually, the whole class changed and headed out to the P.E. grounds. Given what had happened within the classroom, people were subdued as they listened to Aizawa. With what he wanted them do, most of them weren't happy about it.
"A quirk apprehension test!" Most of the class exclaimed, the exceptions to this being Momo, Shoto, Akio, Mezo, Tokoyami, and Katsuki.
"What about orientation?" Ochaco questioned.
"If you really want to make the big leagues, you can't waste time on pointless ceremony." Aizawa replied. "Here at U.A., we're not tethered to tradition. That means I run this class how I see fit. You've all been taking standardized tests for most your lives.
Thing is, you've never got to use your quirks before. The country is still trying to push the idea all people are created equal by not letting those with the most power excel. That is irrational. Someday, the systems within our country will realize that. For now, I'll correct their mistakes."
The teacher than tossed an electronic ball at Akio, who caught it. "What would you like me to do with this?"
"You were the one who managed to get the most points in the entrance exam." Aizawa voiced. "Tell me, just how far could you pitch a softball, without that suit of armor, in middle school?"
"Sixty-three meters, give or take one." Akio replied.
"Right." Aizawa nodded as he pointed to a nearby circle. "Try doing it now with that suit of yours." As the older Yaoyorozu moved into position, he pulled out a tracking device. "Anything goes, just stay within that circle."
Akio looked right at the sphere, his systems giving him all the information he needed on it. "It's durable, which makes sense given this is a hero academy. In that case, I can utilize the natural strength of the suit in conjunction with a well-timed repulsor blast."
Akio swung his throwing arm a couple of times before giving it the real deal. He moved to through the ball at the right time and engaged that hand's repulsor, seeing the ball launched clear into the distance.
"All of you need to know your maximum capabilities." Aizawa turned to them, unfazed as he held up his device to show a reading of 911.8 meters. "It is the most rational way of finding out your potential as heroes."
"Over 900 meters." Denki smiled. "Man, Akio really is something else."
"This is what I'm talking about." Sero added. "Unrestricted use of what makes us special."
"I want to go!" Mina declared excitedly. "This just looks like fun."
"So, this looks fun?" Aizawa inquired, a hint of threat entering his voice. "You have three years here to become a hero. You think It's all going to be fun and games?" He smirked. "Idiots. Today, you will compete in eight physical test to determine your potential. Whoever comes in last has none and will be expelled."
Most of the class reacted with shock, fear, or some combination of the two. Momo came to a different deduction, that the man must be lying through his teeth to get 110% from all of them.
"Immediate expulsion? Eight tests?" Izuku was arguably the one most terrified. "Oh crap, not good. I can only use One for All at 0 or 100 percent right now. I don't have any control yet."
"Like I've said, I decide how this class is run." Aizawa's smirk grew sadistic. "Understand? If that's a problem, you're welcome to head home right now."
"You can't send one of us home!" Ochaco exclaimed. "I mean, we just got here. Even if it wasn't the first day, that isn't fair."
"Oh, you think natural disaster are?" Aizawa questioned. "What about power hungry villains or catastrophic accidents that wipe out whole cities? No, the world is full of unfairness, and it's a hero's job to combat that. If you want to be a pro, you must push yourself to the brink.
For the next three years, U.A. with throw one terrible hardship after another at you, so you will have to go beyond…plus ultra style." Adding another cold smile to his face, Aizawa made a beckoning motion toward them. "Show me it's no mistake you're here."
Tenya took out a water bottle, drinking from it. "I don't approve of this hazing, but U.A. is the top hero program. If this is how the school does things, I suppose we should respect it."
"With how he explained it, there's a sense to it." Akio admitted to himself, recalling his time as an apprentice. "If they're training us to risk our lives, they can't make room for people that could wind up getting themselves or others killed."
"Now then, we're wasting time standing around." Aizawa continued. "Let the games begin."
The first trial was the 50-meter dash. Momo and Tenya were up first, the latter setting himself down into a runner's position as the engine-like protrusions on his calves thrummed. The former pulled rocket-powered roller blades out of her stomach and slipped them on.
"Runners, on your marks." The robot used to monitor their times declared.
The rockets at the back of Momo's roller blades roared to life at the same time as the engines at the back of Tenya's did. With the faux gun shot, both students shot forth at blinding speed and ended up past the finish line practically neck-and-neck.
"Tenya & Momo: 3.04 seconds."
After them was Mashirao and Ochaco. The latter utilized her quirk to lighten her clothes prior to them being ordered to start. Mashirao bounced along his tail, pulling ahead as she lagged behind.
"Mashirao: 5.49 seconds. Ochaco: 7.15 seconds."
Katsuki went alongside Izuku. The former blasted his quirk behind him, leaving the latter in the dust.
"Katsuki: 4.13 seconds. Izuku 7.02 seconds."
It went on like this, everyone taking it in turns. Then, Akio found himself going last alongside Yuga.
Upon seeing his competition just standing there, Yuga smirked. "Nice attempt there, mon ami. Though I must say, you are not showing enough panache."
"While one could say panache is applicable to hero work these days, it is meaningless if one prioritizes it over actually getting the job done." Akio returned.
When the gunshot went off, Akio engaged two blue pulses from his repulsor-boosted boots. Not a full flight, he kept enough friction for stability, but it was like he glided along the earth. He reached the end as Yuga's quirk faltered, and he hit the ground, seeing him have to blast again.
"Akio: 3.04 seconds. Yuga: 5.51 seconds."
The second trial was all about grip strength, which was done inside. All the students had to grip a device as hard as possible. Momo utilized clamps while Akio just utilized his suit covered hand, the two of them breaking their respective devices and scoring 1000kg.
A student with multiple arms squeezed his device with three of them, getting a reading of 540kg. Comparatively, Izuku looked hopeless as he got a reading of 56kg. That was barely higher than what Tsuyu and Mina got, 55.3 and 55.8, respectively.
Seeing the guy's current state, Akio decided to approach. "Hey."
"Y-Yes?" The boy stammered.
"This one has been on edge since testing started." Akio shook his head. "Look, I do not mean
to pry, but are you alright? You've looked out of sorts since the tests began."
"Oh, uh, well…" Izuku stammered. "I'm just, uh…having trouble controlling my quirk is all."
Akio only ever heard of young children, primarily those who'd just manifested their quirk, having trouble controlling it. Then again, twins were supposed to have the same quirk, yet he lacked Creation like his sister.
"If he doesn't have control over his quirk, how'd he get into U.A.?" Akio pondered.
"I guess I'm just afraid of what'll happen when I use it." Midoriya added.
"On some level, I understand that." Akio noted, seeing Izuku look at him. "This armor of mine is fairly powerful, right?"
"Yeah." Izuku nodded, his eyes full of admiration. "Just from these first two test, I can see how you would have done so well in the entrance exam."
"Be that as it may, this is actually my Mark III suit." Akio informed. "The prior two versions would not have done anywhere near as well, though without them this armor would not exist."
"Well, my quirk makes me super strong; however, I can only use it once before I'm knocked out of the fight." Midoriya admitted nervously. "Whichever part of my body I channel my power through breaks, as in broken bones."
"That is certainly a problem." Akio noted. "So, you're pretty much counting on one excellent score to carry you out of last place?"
"At this point, yeah." Midoriya admitted.
"Not certain how well that would go over with our teacher." Akio noted. "Have you tried decreasing the amount of power you're putting into each move?"
"I have…it's just gotten me nowhere so far." Izuku groaned. "I…My quirk didn't show up until the entrance exam. I actually entered quirkless, just to awaken to all this power and haven't had much of a chance to train with it."
Akio doubted he was getting the whole truth now, though far be it for him to feel entitled to such a thing. "That is rough."
"How do you control your armor?" Midoriya suddenly asked him. "I mean, it's got to be radically different from how I need to control my quirk, but it might be helpful to have some kind of reference since I don't have much."
"Truth be told, I'm likely not the best source you could go to for this given just how different our forms of power are." Akio reasoned. "What I can do is offer you another example that might help. Something you could try."
"I'm willing to try anything at this point." Midoriya stated desperately.
"You've told me any one body part you push your power through tends to break." Akio began. "To me, that sounds like your body is one complex machine while the quirk is the fuel. If all that fuel only gets to one component, something breaks.
Taking it a step further, you informed me it's basically all or nothing. Making a machine fire off at max to one part is bound to make something burst. When it comes to machinery, every part has its purpose."
By now, the class was back outside in preparation for the third trial, which was the standing long jump. Everyone was just milling about as they waited for Aizawa to call them.
"I think I get it." Midoriya went wide eyed. "By concentrating all that power into one place, there's no way I could regulate it. Rather than that, I should imagine all that power spreading throughout my body."
"Sounds about right in theory, though I'm not sure how it will ultimately pan out in practice." Akio admitted.
"It's worth a try." Midoriya nodded. "Yaoyorozu, thank you."
"Perhaps save thanking me for if this works." Akio muttered before walking away.
Honestly, he just told Midoriya that because it was all he could come up with in the moment. At this point, all Akio could hope for was that his advice wouldn't end up landing the guy in the nurse's office.
It was soon time for the standing long jump, which required students to clear a sandbox. Momo cleared it by launching herself to the other side with a long pole. Katsuki jumped and blasted himself over. Ochaco floated herself to the other side.
Mashirao's tail was strong enough to launch himself. Tenya used the engines in his legs to shoot himself across after jumping. Akio's armor had no difficulty clearing the length. Tsuyu simply lept across. Yuga blasted himself across.
Most other students had the misfortune of not being able to clear the sandbox with a single jump, though some did certainly come close. Ultimately, it ended up coming down to Izuku as the last person for this trial. As the guy took his place, Akio hoped it'd work out.
Izuku took a deep breath, ready to put what he'd learned from speaking with Akio into practice. "Don't flip the switch off." He got into a stance. "Leave the power on the whole time and imagine the energy spreading throughout my body."
He was clearly concentrating hard. "One for All's power must surge through my whole being, continuously. I can only use three percent right now, but that's better than all or nothing, which leads to broken bones."
"Are you out there to jump or take a dump, Midoriya?" Aizawa asked. "We don't have all day."
"Y-Yes!" The poor boy stammered as he straightened up. "Er, I mean, no! Uh…"
"Looks like Midoriya will be the one going home." Kirishima stated, slightly disappointed.
"Of course." Bakugo snorted. "He's a Quirkless loser, just like Tin Can."
Akio choose not to engage with the blond, his gaze focused on seeing just what Izuku could do.
"Midoriya has a quirk." Iida protested. "I mean, didn't you hear about what he did during the mock battle?"
"Just jump and get it over with." Their teacher sighed.
"Yes sir!" Midoriya replied as he took his stance again. "One for All: Full Cowling 3%!"
Izuku gave a mighty yell as he launched himself forward. For his efforts, he officially joined those who cleared the fifty meters. It might have seen him lying in the dirt and panting from the effort; however, he still did it. Midoriya soon got to his feet, wobbling.
He then turned to Akio and gave him a thumbs up. The older Yaoyorozu would have returned the gesture if the boy's face of triumph hadn't morphed into one of terror. Turning slightly, he noticed Bakugo looking as though he was about to have an aneurism.
Then, without warning, he shot forward with explosions lighting up in his right hand. "DEKU, YOU BASTARD! Tell me how you did that, or you're dead!"
Midoriya squawked as he held up his hands to shield himself from Bakugo's fury. Akio prepared to intercept the blond, but before he could move, their teacher had already restrained him once more with the scarf. At the same time, his explosions turned off.
"Again?" Bakugo snarled as he craned his neck back. "Your friggin' scarf!?"
Aizawa was glaring at his student, his eyes glowing crimson while his hair and scarf flowed upward. "I expect better of my students, Bakugo. This will be the last time I use my Quirk on you for something like this.
If it is not, I will expel you without hesitation." Without bothering to wait for acknowledgement from the boy, Aizawa released the tension on his scarf and blinked. "Now, let's get moving as we still don't have all day here."
Katsuki was left further enraged by the events which have taken place. Seeing this, Izuku was quick to rush over and join the others.
"Until the exams, he was nothing." Katsuki glared his way. "A little bug I could have crushed if I wanted to. Just an annoying bug I will smash into the ground!"
After the standing long jump, the class was put through their paces with sit-ups, push-ups repeated side-steps, and a long-distance run. Throughout it all, Izuku utilized his quirk in the new way he's found. This all led up to the final trial, ball throwing.
Aizawa announced that as Akio had already done his at the beginning, he wouldn't participate again. Ochaco went first. As she threw the ball, she applied her quirk which saw the ball going on forever until it vanished. Aizawa held up his tracker, which got a reaction from the class.
"Infinity!"
"That's insane!" Denki exclaimed. "Just how is that possible?"
Momo launched her ball from a cannon, getting a score of 681.5 meters. Katsuki launched his ball with his explosion, getting a score of 705.2 meters. Given it was nowhere near the score Akio had gotten, he was left seething.
Soon, just as with the standing long jump, Izuku was the last up. "With this new way of using One for All, I've actually done well for myself. Is it good enough with the crazy scores everyone else has been producing? No, I have to believe I've done well enough."
As with the last few exercises, he threw the ball utilizing his quirk at 3%. Just prior to him using it, Aizawa activated his quirk. Izuku could feel the power receding, which did see the ball falling short.
"Izuku: 46 meters."
"My quirk shut off…" Izuku's eyes were wide as he turned to Aizawa, the telltale signs of his quirk being active in full effect.
"You've shown marked improvement when it comes to controlling your quirk, but it's clear you can't use all of your power without breaking your bones again." Aizawa voiced. "In that instance, you'd have to rely on someone else to take care of you.
If you don't want to be the one going home, you got to show me you can utilize all your power without being put out of commission. If you fail to do that, you don't belong here." He shut his quirk down. "How this goes is now up to you."
All Might arrived just now, having observed what happened from around the corner of a nearby building. "Aizawa is one of those guys who doesn't like the media because he feels it interferes with our work, and he judges celebrity heroes like me because we look good in the spotlight.
"My Full Cowling technique was my one shot at this." Izuku muttered to himself. "if I got to use all my power, what can I possibly do?" He looked down. "Do I let the egg explode? No, that won't work." He looked up determined. "No matter the outcome, I got to do something!"
Izuku wound back his arm before throwing it forward with everything he could muster. At the last second, he activated One for All on his pointer finger alone. It was the point of last contact as he threw the ball.
"SMASH!" Izuku yelled.
Everyone watched on in amazement while the boy was left with just a broken finger. When it came down, Aizawa was left with a reading of 705.3 meters.
Izuku grinned through the pain and turned to his teacher. "You see, I'm still standing."
Aizawa grinned. "This kid."
He'd seen promise in how he became able to control his quirk. Now, he'd just proved he could go all out if the need arose and stay standing.
"I was worried about you, young Midoriya." All Might was thoroughly impressed. "In the end, you're doing a great job. You had to use One for All at full power without being debilitated, so you propelled the ball at the last point of contact. Just when did you go get so cool!?"
With the final trial having come to an end, Aizawa gathered the students around him. "Alright, time to give you your results. I've ranked you all from best to worst. You should probably have a good idea of your standing already, so I'm just going to pull up the whole list."

Denki Kaminari 18th
Kyoka Jiro 19th
Toru Hagakure 20th
Given this was a quirk apprehension test, it made sense higher scores wouldn't translate to the absolute top of the list. Aside from the fact creativity with her quirk was his sister's whole thing, Akio could also be proud of her taking that top spot. Coming in 2nd certainly didn't hurt.
He saw Mashirao had taken 8th, Mina had 10th, and Denki was placed at 18th. The former two seemed satisfied while the latter was a touch disappointed. Akio was pleased to see Izuku had obtained 12th place. Unfortunately, someone had to come in last.
That turned out to be a girl named Toru Hagakure. Her quirk was heteromorphic, which basically meant it didn't turn off. The only issue was that unlike the boy with six arms who could spawn different body parts on the ends of them, her quirk rendered her invisible.
She had no edge over the others when it came to running fast or jumping high, which meant she performed at the level of an average athlete from their age group. She just didn't stand a chance. Her placement saw the poor girl bawling her eyes out.
On some level, Akio did feel bad for her. Given how things were shaping up, it was likely she might have outperformed Izuku prior to his intervention. If he'd ignored someone struggling like that, the older Yaoyorozu knew he'd have regrated it.
"Toru Hagakure, follow me to Nezu's office where your expulsion from Class 1-A will be made official." Aizawa began walking with a still bawling Toru following. "As for the rest of you, you're done for today. Pick up a syllabus from the classroom and read it over before tomorrow."
He stopped and looked Midoriya's way. "You, visit Recovery Girl to have that finger of yours fixed up." He then addressed the class. "Every one of you left in my class need to be prepared because things are going to be tougher from here on out."
"He was…serious about expulsion." Momo put a hand over her mouth as she couldn't believe it. "I had reasoned it was a rational deception to ensure we gave our best."
"Man, I feel sorry for her." Denki commented genuinely.
"Yeah, Toru was crushed." Mina agreed.
Many among them shared that sentiment.
"Had I not figured out how I could use One for All, I likely would have come last." Izuku realized.
With Toru
Toru couldn't believe she'd come all this way, just to stumble at what became the final hurdle. She'd done her best in every test, but that hadn't been good enough when up against the potential of her classmates. While she had stopped crying, the poor girl was still devastated.
Aizawa let the girl stew in her thoughts, not saying a word as he led her to Nezu's office. Thinking over what happened was crucial in the process. Upon arriving, he knocked, which prompted a response from the principal on the other side.
"Oh, come in." The voice stated, seeing Aizawa open the door to reveal the small, humanoid animal sitting behind the desk. "Ah Shota. I assume by you being here you have students who did not meet your standards this year?"
"Just the one, Toru Hagakure." Aizawa informed. "The other nineteen have potential."
"I'd say that's an improvement over last year's entire class." Nezu noted. "As it is just the one student, we won't have to reassign you this year." He pointed to a nearby, stapled packet. "Do look over the results of Class 1-B and have your choice selected by this evening."
Aizawa took the packet. "I'll have my student picked within the hour."
With his piece said, the teacher began to leave. He did stop to glance in Toru's direction, though said nothing before taking his leave.
"Uhm…so." Toru sniffled a little. "You're Principal Nezu?"
"That's me." Nezu declared happily. "The one who could be a mouse, a dog, or even a bear; however, the only important thing is…I'm the principal!" He nodded. "As your principal, I must ask what course you wish to enter if any?"
"I-I'm sorry." Toru was confused. "Didn't Mr. Aizawa expel me?"
"Oh yes, he expelled you from his class which will go on your permanent record." Nezu nodded. "Then, you are enrolled once again as you earned your way into this school. That is something Shota cannot strip you of this early into the year unless you absolutely deserve it.
If this were last year's class, who were expelled in their entirety, you'd be enrolled back into Class 1-A. Of course, that would be at your discretion. A new homeroom teacher would also be selected. When the numbers are low, it means we must find a new course for you.
Shota is now going to choose a student from Class 1-B, so there will be a vacancy there. Unlike him, Sekijiro's methods are not to expel in this manner. Of course, you could enter General Studies in hopes of potentially reentering Class 1-A.
Support and Business are also both available avenues, though I'm not certain how you would fair there. Conversely, you are well within your right to decide this has been enough and can leave U.A. That could be to attend another academy, which we'll help you transfer to."
"I can choose any path forward I wish?" Toru asked.
"Barring immediate reentry into Class 1-A I'm afraid." Nezu reminded. "This is the right Shota requested, and I extended to him. While certainly harsh, his methods have turned out excellent students. So dear girl, what would you like to do?"
"Uhm…well, i-is Vlad King…" Toru began but was uncertain.
Now that she knew it wasn't true expulsion from UA, Toru realized she'd learned an important lesson. It was currently her only lesson she'd ever receive from him. Still, even knowing that, it had hurt to be put through this.
"Shota's methods are harsh, so it is understandable you'd feel as you do against him." Nezu offered her a kind smile. "I can tell you he truly cares. As for what I believe you were going to ask, aside from the fact he does not expel as Shota has, Sekijiro is a softer teacher."
"Then, I still want to be a hero." Toru declared. "I would like to take the vacancy in Class 1-B."
"Then, it is settled." Nezu declared happily.
Class 1-A
Upon returning to the classroom, certain students were quick to grab their syllabus and leave. Whether it be due to today's events, their personalities, and/or some other third reason, it was understandable. Yuga, Tenya, Ochaco, Koji, Mezo, Fumikage, Shoto, and Bakugo left separately.
This left Mina, Tsuyu, Mashirao, Denki, Eijiro, Rikido, Kyoka, Hanta, Akio, and Momo. Not wanting to leave the day off on such a sour note, Mina organized the remaining people and suddenly declared they were heading to the arcade. This got people looking at each other.
"Well, it's not like we have homework." Sero stated halfheartedly.
"I do believe we should have none of that." Akio voiced, deciding to pitch in given his time under Sir Nighteye. "While what happened to Toru is unfortunate, as future heroes we can't wallow in it. As Aizawa said, we must combat the unfairness."
"Akio is right." Denki joined in now. "Toru got a raw deal, and that stinks. Even so, the rest of us are still here."
"Fair points." Momo voiced. "I would certainly rather end the day on a better note than this."
Their words seemed to reach those who remained, improving their moods. It was decided, with everyone getting the permission they needed from their families. They even tried to get those who'd already left, though it appeared those nine weren't on school grounds by this point.
Musutafu
The remaining ten students of class 1-A headed out to the nearest local arcade. They were led by Mina and Kirishima, who were positively bursting with excitement. While it wasn't uncomfortable, it was certainly strange for Akio to be among this many people.
Prior to this, he'd only every regularly hung out with Itsuka and Momo. Not for lack of trying, mind you. In whatever way his former peers said it, generally no one wanted to hang around the quirkless kid with lofty aspirations of being the next Symbol of Peace.
Of course, that was just one contributing factor. Another was someone like him daring to take the opportunity to be a hero's apprentice. Perhaps among that was how busy he was. No one understood the work he put in, seeing him as merely privileged.
He would not dismiss such a notion. He was given opportunity, money, and resources most people his age could only dream of. Unlike what most of them might have done in his shoes, he put all that to use and ended up standing here as a quirkless student of U.A.
"You seem to be deep in thought back here." A voice noted from next to him.
It startled Akio until he realized it was Hanta, who had apparently dropped back to walk with him. "I suppose."
"What is on your mind?" Hanta questioned.
"It would be reflecting on what it took to stand here now." Akio replied.
"Hm, yeah it must have been a lot of hard work on your part." Hanta stated genuinely.
"Years of it, almost from the time I was truly cognizant of my surroundings." Akio voiced. "Though given my lack of knowledge, it took time for me to understand my goals in full. Followed by the time needed to understand how I could achieve them."
"I think all that work, whatever it may have been, clearly paid off." Hanta smiled. "That suit of yours is impressive. You're also looking like a decent guy, given what you did for Midoriya in the quirk apprehension and how you stood up to Bakugo. Sounds heroic if you ask me."
"All I'm trying to do is my is my best." Akio returned.
Musutafu Arcade
Upon arriving at the arcade, Momo rented out a large room for two hours while Akio set up everyone with cards they could use to play games and get food. This surprised the others since none of that could have been cheap given the size of their party.
"My brother and I just want our first outing with most of the class to be memorable." Momo informed when they were asked if it was okay to drop that much cash on a whim.
"It is important for us to have positive experiences whenever possible." Akio added.
With that confirmation, no one was going to protest them dropping the money on them. In the spirit of this being a group outing, it was decided the first hour would see the group split into smaller groups for the first hour. Then, they'd come together for the second.
In that first hour, Akio was with Mina and Denki, Mashirao was with Eijiro, Rikido, and Hanta, and Kyoka and Tsu went with Momo. Come the second hour, as agreed, everyone came back together. Between them all, the whole group played every game in the whole place.
Ski ball, claw machines, basketball, racing game, and many more. As time wore on, everyone had their moods drastically improved. Eventually, all good things must come to an end as people had to get home. Still, it was a great note to end the day on.
Let's talk about the expulsion. Chapter 254 or episode 19 of season 5, it is revealed Shota acquired the ability to expel and reenroll students. In the material, this is specifically in reference to how sacrifice for others is different from throwing your life away. Given the quirk apprehension is early on into MHA, it is possible the reasoning given later on is a retcon. Regardless of what you may think, I believe Aizawa intended to do the expulsion.
I furthermore believe, with the context given later, this is how it'd go down. Then in canon, Izuku showcased his potential which led him to roll it back and take on this Class 1-A. In this universe, the potential of the class is higher, and Izuku ended up doing better within the Quirk Apprehension prior to showcasing his ball throw feat. Not to mention Katsuki acted out a little more to boot. This all led to the 20th person getting the 'expulsion.'
Izuku scored better than canon while Mineta isn't here, which sees Toru Hagakure, the person who was 18th in canon, put in 20th place. Of course, you can argue she shouldn't be in 20th place; however, she was in 18th canonically and nothing has changed with her to improve her ranking. If Izuku does better than cannon and Mineta isn't there, it moves her down to 20th. This now means she's going to Class 1-B while a Class 1-B student shall be moved into 1-A.
