Becoming the Dawn [Worm/Pokemon] Celestial Menagerie inspired

Making spars not count for EXP is interesting- it's so it can't be cheesed that way, I assume?
Partly that, partly another reason but mainly because of the role of rival battles in Pokemon. In the games they're a test of your skills as a trainer and your bonds with your Pokemon.

Rivals, even the friendly ones, treat them seriously and consider them actual loses when they lose against the player. Some even take it really, really badly when they lose. The Protectorate, however, don't really care and weren't emotionally invested in it. Neither were their shards.

It wasn't a test of their skills or their bonds with their team and shard. That's good because they didn't take it badly when they lost but without that level of passion it doesn't really count as a win either.

If they were a Damsel type of cape where they would've got really, really pissed that they lost then it would've counted. But they aren't, so it didn't.

Can she summon prevos?
Nothing to see there. You're eyes are playing tricks on you.

...So what you're saying is if it's a team fight, or maybe something like the Pan-department Protectorate fights in El-Ahrairah (Protectorate teams fight each other, for training presumably, but also bragging rights. Even MM and Armsy are apparently annoyed when they lose a fight that they totally should've won) it might work? Also, testing bonds with shards will probably never happen unless someone pulls a Fragile One-Antares scenario, but some capes are almost basically being puppeted by their shards, will that count?

Can someone explain to me why Duraludon is scared of water? Is it an anime reference? Because nothing about game Duraludon makes it scared of or weak to water. It kinda feels like an arbitrary weakness for no reason.

EDIT: read the Pokédex, but 'lives in caves because it dislikes rain' is far different from 'terrified of water'. A water hose is basically a water type move which it resists.

Other than that, love the story. Can MC roll to have shiny pokemon?

Yeah basically. Mainly because winning or losing those fights would impact her rep and relationships with other people.

Not what I meant. While there are Capes very in tune with their Shard if that was enough to count then beating MM - one of the oldest capes in terms of years she had her power and among the first to trigger - would've levelled her up.

I was referring to the fact that Shard and the Entities don't really understand the concept of 'Spars' because their a predatory species who other really interacts with other members of their species to mate or destroy.

That's why there's not a parahuman WWE. The shards aren't interested and will sabotage it eventually.

So unless the shards an instigator who will slide up to their host brain and whisper 'Me, personally, I wouldn't take that level of disrespect,' if they lose the shard aren't really interested in spars either.

Don't forget 'The only drawback is that it rusts easily.' When both Pokédex entries in its introductory generation mention that tidbit about water I just have to assume it's a prominent dislike.

Which makes sense. If a species evolved to have a natural armour then it's also going to evolve to avoid anything that could take that away.

Yeah. When I was testing the odds on the roller I'm using I got a shiny Weedle.
