• An addendum to Rule 3 regarding fan-translated works of things such as Web Novels has been made. Please see here for details.
  • We've issued a clarification on our policy on AI-generated work.
  • Due to issues with external spam filters, QQ is currently unable to send any mail to Microsoft E-mail addresses. This includes any account at live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com. Signing up to the forum with one of these addresses will result in your verification E-mail never arriving. For best results, please use a different E-mail provider for your QQ address.
  • For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.
  • Since it has happened MULTIPLE times now, I want to be very clear about this. You do not get to abandon an account and create a new one. You do not get to pass an account to someone else and create a new one. If you do so anyway, you will be banned for creating sockpuppets.
  • Due to the actions of particularly persistent spammers and trolls, we will be banning disposable email addresses from today onward.
  • The rules regarding NSFW links have been updated. See here for details.

Censorship by Payment Processors

I believe the answer to this is "six of one, half a dozen of the other".

Nah, the payment processors are just flat-out lying. Steam has been consistently opposed to censorship, as has Itch.io, and if the latter in particular actually wanted to restrict some NSFW content, it wouldn't have taken the drastic (and likely highly damaging to their brand) step of delisting all NSFW content.

There is rumor that says that Mastercard and Visa wants to ban Grand Theft Auto, and other violent games.

Oh you mean the thing they did? The one they sort of walked back on after a lot of noise was made? That thing?
You think they've walked it back? That's cute. The extra terms of service submitting to the whims of Visa and Mastercard are still there. The assorted adult games banned for spurious reasons are still gone. Some tags are still mysteriously semi-hidden.

If Itch.io actually wanted to do any of this then they would not have burned a ton of goodwill by blindsiding people over it. They ain't getting that trust back.

Hence the "sort of".

They were pretty clear from the beginning that it was only ever meant to be a temporary thing. And if they didn't want to host NSFW content, they would have just not hosted it in the first place. The idea that all of these different sites simultaneously decided they wanted to ban NSFW content now after years of hosting it is pretty clearly ridiculous.

I won't say they're completely blameless, they could have fought back like GoG has rather than meekly submitting, but it's pretty clear they weren't the ones instigating it, and nor did they want to remove those games.
